CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 153: Sundown
The Lambkins Mansion was huge. It was even bigger than Levy’s mansion. But it was much more reserved.
Floor tiles were made of wood and produced creaking sounds every time someone was walking. It only had one ground floor amongst all the structures.
The mansion was split into many sections. The main altar structure was at the front. Behind it was the living quarters of the Lambkins. There was a guest house in the East and a bathing quarters in the West.
The government had set up all sorts of cameras inside the mansion, both inside the interior and in the courtyard to record any activity. They were all special infrared cameras that could capture unique changes in atmosphere and temperature, perfect for recording NCEs.
Becky looked at her phone and was swiping intensely. She’s checking the records related to the Lambkins.
"Daism is actually very popular. What the hell?" Becky said.
"What’s wrong?" Selina said.
"There were around fifty thousand followers of Daism in Aeliz City." Becky said.
"Not that much if you account for Aeliz’s millions of population." Mater meowed.
Selina nodded at her cat, "You’re right. It isn’t comparable at all. But 50,000 is still a lot."
Becky stared at the cat. She really didn’t know if Selina really understood that cat or she was just playing with Becky. Becky knew that it’s not a normal cat for sure. But for some reason, she found it hard to believe that they could communicate that well.
Behind the altar room was a meditation room in the same structure. Daism’s meditation was very bizarre. The practitioner must stand on one toe with their other leg lifted up. Only a small white cloth reinforced their jaw that was hanging from the top.
"So they tip-toed and put their neck around a white piece of cloth. Isn’t this just hanging yourself?" The black cat meowed.
"A weird practice for sure." Selina said.
The meditation room had many white cloths hanging around for followers to ’practice’.
The group walked around the room to check for anything particular about the place but there wasn’t much. They continued their way and exited the building. There were a few other structures that they could take a look at before sundown.
They met a few other groups while investigating.
A Bronze Bounty had much more Hunters lurking around then Iron Bounties. But the place was small so Detective Flintstone only allowed a maximum of five groups to enter at a time. Each group couldn’t have more than five members.
That was twenty-five Psychics snooping around the mansion at all times.
Other Psychics gave Selina side eyes whenever the group walked past. Words spread fast and what she did before had been known by many.
Some were on her side. After all, she didn’t start it.
Some criticized her for overreacting. She didn’t need to bitch slap that woman.
Some were indifferent. Just another crazy bitch in Aeliz City. There were many of them.
The guest house and bathhouse didn’t have much to investigate either. If there were, the government would surely already get it. If not, the other Hunters should discover them previously as well.
Slowly, the sun was going down. Sunlight retreated from the land. Chaos slowly built up inside the mansion area.
Mater’s nose twitched as he smelled that familiar scent of Chaos. His golden eyes flashed red as he scanned the place.
"Chaos is rising," the black cat meowed.
Selina also used her Chaos Eyes. Though she used it much more briefly than Mater. With a blink of an eye, she switched her eyes to red then returned to normal immediately. She was not strong enough to use it for long yet.
"It should become dangerous very soon. Stay alert, Becky." Selina said.
Becky nodded.
"You want the helmet?" Mater asked.
He didn’t want to summon his servants in this area where there were cameras. He could only use his spells and Demonic Arsenal.
Selina shook her head, "I should refrain from using the helmet for now."
"Good girl," Mater snickered lowly.
The helmet made her stronger but also cut all the negative effects from developing her Chaos Singularity. It wouldn’t have any drawbacks short term but she would slowly get dependent on the helmet. Mater knew this and Selina knew this. So she chose to face it by herself.
It could only make her stronger in the long run.
"What helmet are you talking about?" Becky said.
"A helmet that my cat made. It’s a very strong relic."
Psychics called all supernatural items as relics so Selina used that term for Becky to understand.
"It can also make a relic? Your cat really can do anything."
"Yes. He’s a very good boy."
Selina petted Mater’s head gently as he purred.
The sun disappeared from the sky. Darkness fell. The group entered the living quarters of the Lambkins.
Most of the Bounty Hunters had also gathered here. The place was rather big and they thought that sticking together could be safer.
"Hey, you two! Wanna team up?" A tattooed male Hunter waved at them.
"Sorry. I’m not interested." Selina declined politely.
"Me too." Becky said. She got a big gun right here on her side. No need to go anywhere.
"Tch. Arrogant brats." The male hunter turned away and back to his group.
"Selina?" A tall adult woman in a red dress spoke up. She was in the same group with the tattooed man.
"Huh?" Selina turned to her. "Oh. I remember you. We met in the examination, right?"
"That’s me. Loretta Engleman." The woman smiled. She seemed much more reserved and less arrogant than before.
"This bitch has grown. I can’t believe it." Mater growled loudly.
"Your cat is as lively as ever." Loretta smiled gently.
Mater remembered this woman fairly well. She was the only one that could use a unique skill called Mental Link. With it, she could temporarily restrict the movement of the wraith and even read its memory.
’I wonder if I can learn that skill...’ Mater stroked his whiskers in deep thoughts. There was a Rank-2 Spell that could read thoughts. But a memory reading spell needed Mater to be at least Rank-3.
’If I can learn that Psychic Skill. I can probably design a suitable spell to replicate and enhance that effect. The Emotional Gemstones would help as well."
The black cat turned to Selina and meowed at her, "Invite her to our party. She’s useful."
Selina didn’t need further explanation, she turned to Loretta.
"Wanna join my team?"
"Huh?" The tattooed man raised an eyebrow. He was visibly not happy about it.
