CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 182: Flame Staff
"Candles again? What are they trying to do?" Selina mumbled.
The wraiths in front of them were unique. It didn’t look human at all. Instead it looked like an object came to life.
The wraiths were mannequins with hands as two candles. The candles burned brightly.
As Bash charged at it, the wraiths aimed the candles at him. Flame on the candles shot out like a flamethrower and engulfed Bash.
Crow jumped up and dashed at the wraiths. He sliced the poleaxe through a wraith when he went past it.
Dark veins appeared on the wraith but it wasn’t dead yet.
"These things are stronger than the wraiths upstairs." Crow said.
Bash charged through the flame and slammed on the other wraith. His heavy body smacked it onto the cement wall. Then Bash punched its face, causing it to collide with the wall behind.
The face of the mannequin cracked.
"Bash Punch!" Bash continued to barrage the wraith with endless heavy punches. Each punch caused the wraith to crack even more.
The other wraith joined its hands together. The candles fused into one large candle with a hole in the middle. The hole shined orange light and flame shot out of it. It was stronger and denser than the previous flame.
The flame engulfed Bash but he didn’t move.
Crow approached the other wraith from behind and smacked its head with the Nether Poleaxe. It wasn’t able to cut the wraith, only creating more dark veins and cracks on its face.
"Slashing weapons doesn’t seem that effective. If that’s the case..."
Crow’s poleaxe turned into a large sledgehammer. He swept the wraith’s legs, causing it to fall on the ground. He then slammed the hammer onto its body. This time the attack was much more effective.
The chest of the wraith caved in. Chaos leaked out immediately.
Crow slammed it again in the head and killed it. Mater pulled in the Chaos from its body.
The wraith disintegrated, leaving two candles on the ground.
Over at Bash, he also smacked it into pieces and broke it completely. Mater sucked the Chaos it left behind. Two more candles fell to the ground.
Selina approached the candles and pushed her candle forward. Selina’s candle absorbed the candles on the ground and shined even brighter.
"The candle becomes more stable. Interesting..." The black cat stroked its whiskers. "Let’s try to collect as many candles as possible and see what will happen."
"I think so too." Selina said.
Because Mater had taken control of the Chaos System embedded in this maze, he easily located the other wraiths.
The group found a few more pairs of candle mannequins. They were level 5 to level 6 wraiths. They weren’t that powerful with very minimal forms of attack, but they were incredibly durable and their flame attack could be a huge problem if Bash wasn’t that tanky.
The candle in Selina’s hand absorbed more and more power from the other candles. It slowly grew longer and longer, until it was as long as a spear.
Crow smacked the candle mannequin with the Sledge and broke it to pieces. Another wraith was killed.
Mater took the Chaos while Selina fused the candles together.
The candle transformed again. The holder changed into a type of polearm with the top having formed into an open sphere. Inside the sphere was a fireball that flickered constantly.
"It becomes something else..." Selina said.
"Hmm..."
Mater touched the artifact and examined it again. "Aside from dispersing illusion and protection, this thing is now able to shoot fire now. Try this thing out, Crow."
"Yes, Master."
Crow took the staff and swung it alright. It was surprisingly light for its size. He aimed it at the far wall and channeled the Chaos inside it, the fireball shot out a beam of fire.
"It’s a little bit weak, Master. It has the destructive power of a level 3 or 4 wraith." Crow said.
"Try to see if you can channel your power into it," The black cat meowed.
Crow nodded. He used the staff again, this time using his own Chaos.
"The staff doesn’t accept my Chaos. I wonder if it would react to Nether..."
Dark veins spread on the staff, the flame turned purple and suddenly shot out Nether Flame. The far wall cracked immediately then crumbled down.
"It can be fused with Nether Energy and increase its power to around a level 5 wraith." Crow said. "But its Chaos burns much more if I use it like this."
"What a weird artifact." Mater meowed.
Crow gave the staff back to Selina. He didn’t need it. His own spells were more powerful. Aurora used ice so she wasn’t that suitable with the staff. Bash was out of the question, he would break the staff in half right away.
"There’s a different kind of wraith near us. Let’s go there," the black cat meowed.
At the beginning of the maze, a man in a black suit appeared. His skin-tight suit covered his entire body. He wore a black helmet with black visor that hid his entire face completely.
That was Assassin. A member of the Atlas Seven alongside Titan, real name John Shaw, and the Diver, real name Matteo Mostovoi.
No one really knew what Assassin’s real identity was because he never removed his mask. His personal life was also never mentioned.
At first glance, Assassin looked very similar to Crow as they both had black fabric covering their entire body.
Assassin’s ear piece echoed John’s voice, "This is a request directly from a very big player. Make it clean."
Assassin raised his hand and turned off the ear piece.
Back to where Mater’s group was.
In front of them was a huge wraith. It looked like a gorilla being melted in gold. Its chest cavity was a cage with fire inside it.
Bash approached it and the two looked at each other. Both had huge heavy bodies and a wide frame.
"Want to take care of it, Bash?" The black cat meowed.
Bash smacked his chest repeatedly, "Bash Kill!"
The gorilla wraith also smacked its chest. Then the cage opened up and spat out a dense flame wave that engulfed Bash.
Bash was unfazed. He reached his hand out of the flame and grabbed the gorilla.
Bash’s other hand shot forward and punched the face of the wraith. That strike interrupted its attack and it stumbled backwards.
"Bash Charge!" Bash bolted at the gorilla.
The gorilla growed in return and also charged at Bash. Both of them slammed into each other.
The gorilla was sent flying away while Bash stayed still. A smirk appeared on the Infernal Demon. He charged again while the gorilla was still in the air.
Bash picked up the gorilla and charged it through multiple walls.
This attracted the attention of all the wraiths nearby.
"Leave them to us, Master!"
Crow summoned his sledgehammer.
Aurora clasped her hands together.
