Celestial Speed: Legacy-Chapter 62: Xavier; Man of Nature
Xavier’s eyes scanned the area, trying to locate the men and the source of the voices. He took a deep breath, his heart pounding in his chest, and then he followed the sound, moving stealthily through the underbrush.
As Xavier struggled through the underbrush, the voices grew louder, and he caught pieces of conversation. It sounded like several individuals, all speaking in hushed tones. He could not make out what they were saying, but the tone was unmistakable: this was some sort of meeting, and it sounded secretive.
Now Xavier’s heart was racing within his chest. He felt this in his bones, that he was onto something big. He began to slow down, making sure not to make any noise while edging closer to the group.
He parted the leaves and saw them. There were five of them altogether, all in dark clothes, their faces shrouded in shadow. The two men he had followed were standing off to one side, their eyes scanning the surroundings as if they were searching for something.
The figure at the center of the group drew Xavier’s eyes. A woman, her face hidden behind a veil of shadows, was speaking in a low, husky voice. The others were listening intently.
One could almost see the wheels inside Xavier’s head working at an incredible speed. Who was this woman? What was she saying? And what did it have to do with Dark Dawn?"
But his suspicions were confirmed by the woman’s final statement. "Hail the shadow," she muttered with a thick but feminine voice, having finished her speech and the others nodded in agreement.
His eyes widened. "I knew it!" he exclaimed having heard the famous motto of the organization. They were dark dawn agents.
The two men that Xavier had been following stepped forward, and the group began to disperse.
Xavier knew he had to act fast. He couldn’t let them get away, not now that he had finally stumbled upon something. "I can’t let them get away, i have to do something," He muttered to himself preparing to make his move.
With the group breaking up, he knew he had to act fast. He took a deep breath and without thinking stepped out of the shadows, revealing himself to the group.
The two men he had followed were the first to catch his presence. They turned, with narrowing eyes, as they took in Xavier’s appearance.
"Who are you?" one grunted, his hand reaching into his jacket.
Xavier smiled, trying to appear nonchalant. "Just a curious bystander," he said, holding up his hands up in a peaceful gesture.
But the men weren’t buying it. They took a step closer, their eyes flashing with hostility.
Suddenly, the woman who had been speaking stepped forward. "Wait," she said, her voice low and commanding. She was no doubt the leader of the group.
The men faltered, looking at her uncertainly. Xavier took advantage of the distraction to take a step back, trying to merge with the shadows once more.
But the woman’s eyes snapped to his, and she smiled. "Xavier Marshall, we’ve been expecting you," she said, her voice dripping with malice.
Xavier’s was surprised but he quickly recovered, afterall she wasn’t the first dark dawn agent to call his name. "I must really be famous among you guys, huh?" he snickered, now getting a good look at the woman’s appearance. She had a short black hair, brown skin and a very sexy stature, she was no doubt a mesmerizing beauty.
She smiled mischievously. "Indeed you are, I’m surprised it took you this long to find us,"
"Yeah, beats me too. But now that i have, how about a little, private chat? Dinner maybe," Xavier said with a charming smirk, shocking both himself and everyone present.
But the woman wasn’t fazed, she cocked her head to the side seemingly to think about something, then she shifted her gaze back to Xavier. "Dinner sounds nice, but I’ve got something better. You and me, alone in our dungeon, with a couple of chains and blades," she replied, making the other four agents wonder what was going on. Their leader was busy flirting with the enemy but they couldn’t do anything, than to just spectate.
Xavier tutted with a smug look. "Sorry, I’m not into those kind of kinks, I’ll pass," he muttered
The woman grew a wide smile on her face. "That wasn’t a request, you’re coming with us. Get him!" she ordered the other agents, and they began moving towards Xavier while she stayed back to watch the fight.
Xavier already expected a brawl to go down between himself and the group, but he didn’t think it’ll be because they wanted to abduct him. "Oh well, the hard way it is," he sighed with disappointment and got into a fighting stance.
Xavier’s eyes furrowed as the Dark Dawn agents closed in on him, their eyes blazing with a fierce determination. They each brought out different weapons from their inventory and activated them immediately. a seemingly purple glow enveloping the weapons.
Xavier immediately calculated his odds, he already concluded that these agents didn’t seem to have abilities like the ones at the museum, but, he recognized the purple glow emanating from their weapons, and a shiver ran down his spine. It was the same energy which the leader of the agents at the museum blasted him with.
"Not again," he growled, his mind flashing back to the last time he had faced this kind of energy. It had depleted his mana cells in an instant, leaving him defenseless.
Determined not to fall into the same trap again, Xavier drew his sword, its blade shining with a faint blue light. "Okay, blade melee it is," He charged forward, his superhuman strength propelling him into the fray.
The four agents who had charged forward were taken aback by Xavier’s sudden ferocity. They stumbled backward, their purple-glowing weapons flashing wildly as they tried to defend themselves.
Xavier’s sword sliced through the air, its blade clashing into the agents’ defenses. He fought with a fierce intensity, his movements a blur as he dodged and weaved between the agents’ attacks carefully, making sure not to come in contact with the weapons.
The battle was intense, the two sides clashing in a flurry of steel and energy. Xavier’s sword flashed in the shining sun
But the agents were not easily defeated. They fought back with a ferocity that matched Xavier’s, their purple-glowing weapons flashing wildly as they tried to overwhelm him. While their leader kept spectating, she had left the battle zone but remained closeby, watching and waiting like a final boss.
And they almost did as one of the agents managed to land a heavy blow on Xavier with his axe, causing him to skid backwards. Xavier’s eyes widened in horror as he recovered from the shock. "Fuck! I’ve been hit, I’ve made contact with the weapon," he thought to himself, expecting to feel a wave of fatigue and mana loss, but nothing happened.
As he stood amidst the chaos of the battlefield, his eyes narrowed in contemplation. "Huh? Why I’m not affected? Or perhaps I was wrong about how it works," he pondered deeply, his brow furrowed in concentration. Suddenly, his gaze snapped back to reality, and he realized he was still in the midst of the fray. "Hmm, I have to be careful more than ever. If I don’t know how it works, taking them would be difficult. Unless..." His voice trailed off as his eyes landed on a sturdy, thick tree nearby.
He quickly dashed towards it and with a swift, decisive motion, he struck the base of the tree with a powerful kick, the impact sending shockwaves through the air. The tree creaked and groaned, its trunk splintering but not yet yielding. Undeterred, he grasped the tree with both hands, his fingers wrapping around the gnarled trunk. With a surge of strength, he heaved the tree upward, its roots tearing from the earth as it broke free.
The tree, now a massive, makeshift club, was lifted effortlessly by him. He gritted his teeth, determination burning within him. He would not go down without a fight. With a fierce cry, he launched himself at the agents, swinging the tree mercilessly.
He began to wield it with devastating precision, slamming it into the cluster of Agents. The sound of crunching bone and snapping metal filled the air as the Agents stumbled backward, injured and immobilized, their weapons scattered about, leaving them defenseless. One Agent, caught squarely by the tree’s trunk, crumpled to the ground, knocked out cold.
Despite the carnage, three agents managed to pull through and get back up, even with the severe injuries they suffered, their determination and training driving them forward, which stunned Xavier for a moment, afterall they were normal humans who possessed no mana or abilities.
But he was far from finished, he charged forward, the tree still clutched in his grasp. The Agents, anticipating his attack, spread out to surround him.
Xavier scoffed, unfazed by their tactic, he now had the upper hand as the agents didn’t have the deadly weapons anymore and were weak from the previous frenzy. But they seemed to be skilled in martial arts as well, they charged in at Xavier, each launching a deadly melee attack of their own.
"Alright then, show me what you got," Xavier smiled and began to take them on one by one. With a swift swing of the tree, directly to the head, he sent the first Agent crashing to the ground, knocked out.
The second Agent attempted to strike from behind, but he spun around, using the tree’s trunk to deflect the blow. Seizing the opportunity, he countered with a crushing kick to the skull, sending the Agent stumbling back. The agent staggered for a while and fell to his knees, his eyes completely void of life having received a full brain reboot. He crashed to the ground, unconscious and probably in coma.
The third and final Agent, enraged by the fall of her comrades, brought out a dagger and launched a frenzied assault. But Xavier’s movements a blur, he dodged and weaved between her strikes, the tree at the ready. In a flash of movement, he swung the tree in a wide arc, catching the Agent squarely and sending her crashing to the earth. But she still seemed conscious, groaning as she held her ribs in pain.
