Chapter 12: Chapter 12: I Have Someone I Love

"About last night... I’m so sorry, I..."

Julian Donovan chose his words carefully as he began to speak, but she cut him off before he could finish.

"It’s okay. I know it was because you were drunk..."

She lowered her eyes and murmured.

But her quiet compliance only made Julian feel more agitated and flustered, pricked by a faint guilt. He’d been so drunk last night that he’d mistaken her for Juliet Jennings. They were complete opposites: Juliet was tall and slender, while she was petite. Juliet would respond to his kisses with passion, while she would only bear them timidly.

Shaking off the chaotic thoughts in his mind, he looked at her and said indifferently,

"There’s something I need to make clear to you. I’m in love with someone back in Syan. I pursued her for two years before we finally got together. I love her very much."

Julian saw the unmistakable flash of hurt in her bright eyes, but he chose to calmly continue,

"Even though she’s left me for now, I believe that one day, she’ll come back to me. That’s also why I came here with your father. I’m going to become stronger and more powerful, then go back and win her back!"

You couldn’t really blame Julian for being cruel. He just felt he had to make things clear to her as soon as possible so she would completely give up any hope she had for him. She lowered her eyes, biting her lip tightly without saying a word. Her small face was obscured by the light streaming in, and Julian couldn’t make out her expression.

In the end, he softened his voice.

"You’re still young. You’ll definitely meet a better man who will cherish you. If you’re willing, you can think of me as your older brother!"

She remained silent the entire time he spoke, her head bowed low. Julian suspected she might be crying, but she showed no reaction even after he finished. Seeing her like that made him feel like an irredeemable bastard, yet he knew he hadn’t actually done anything wrong. He simply didn’t love her.

Just as he was wondering how to break the silence, she quietly uttered two words.

"I understand!"

Then, without looking at him, she opened the car door and ran out. Her small, white-clad figure disappeared through the imposing school gates. Julian let out a sigh of relief and drove away.

He recalled the crystal gifts that Ian Shaw and Tyson had given her and couldn’t help but reflect, ’She really is like crystal—sparkling and clear, but also fragile.’

But Julian had indeed underestimated Naomi Shaw. Although his words had deeply hurt her, she didn’t cry. She might look soft and weak, but she wasn’t a girl who cried easily. She just felt so pathetic. Her love story had been brutally snuffed out before it could even begin.

’Think of him as a brother?’ She laughed self-deprecatingly. ’I wish our relationship could be like the one I have with Tyson, where I simply see him as an older brother. But can I?’

’But after everything he’s said, what choice do I have but to think of him as a brother?’

Naomi Shaw walked listlessly across campus when she happened to run into Lara Nash and her boyfriend, Ronan Joyce. Lara was the daughter of the Qindale Region’s King of Gamblers, while Ronan was a top physics student studying abroad from Syan. Lara was lively and adorable; Ronan was calm and composed. Setting aside their backgrounds, they were an incredibly well-matched couple in terms of looks and personality.
