CEO Ex-Husband, Don't Bother Me-Chapter 139 - 129: Breakup
She could tell the clothes were for her. They were all in the simple, fresh style she used to wear, and they were all her size—a small. He had prepared them in advance. ’Looks like he was determined to have me all along.’ The thought made her furious. She randomly grabbed a few items, threw them on, and left his bedroom for the study. Her purse was still there, but her phone was shattered to pieces and unusable. She grabbed her purse, turned around, and went downstairs to leave.
’He told me to stay here? Was I supposed to just stay here and let him continue to bully and humiliate me?’
Ignoring his threats, she stormed out of his residence and hailed a cab back to her own apartment. She wasn’t going to worry about Joy, either. After all, Joy was his daughter; he surely wouldn’t do anything to her. It was obvious he doted on the little girl.
Julian Donovan drove to Willow Summers’s place. Walter Jennings opened the door for him. Willow was busy with her phone, trying to take all sorts of pictures of the two adorable little kids on the sofa. But neither of them was cooperating. Joy kept her head down, playing by herself, while Dylan impatiently kept raising a hand to block his handsome little face. "Willow Summers, can you stop being so childish? If you keep this up, I’m going to sue you for infringing on my and Joy’s image rights!"
The little rascal was actually threatening her. Willow Summers put her hands on her hips and yelled, "I’m not posting them anywhere! I’m just saving them on my phone for myself!"
Because she was pregnant herself, Willow Summers had a special fondness for children, especially an adorable pair of siblings like them.
Dylan rolled his eyes at her slightly protruding belly. "Don’t you have your own baby in there? Just wait till they’re born and take pictures of them!"
’This is so annoying,’ he thought. ’I don’t even know what’s going on with Mom and Dad, yet this woman is here taking our picture without a care in the world. I hate having my picture taken!’
Willow Summers huffed. "I’d die of impatience waiting for them to grow as big as you two! Sigh, if only they could be born as big and cute as you are!"
’Newborns are so ugly,’ she thought. ’And raising them is exhausting work. Just thinking about it makes me want to strangle a certain pair of scheming men!’ Just as she was thinking this, she looked up and saw those two no-good men walk in, one after the other. She shot them an irritated glare.
As Julian Donovan followed Walter Jennings inside, he was met with the sight of his son in a war of words with Willow Summers. Walter just smiled helplessly, stepped forward, and took the phone from his wife. "You’ll absolutely adore our babies when they’re born!"
Julian Donovan did not look happy. The sharp-eyed Willow noticed the scratch marks on the back of his neck, and her interest was instantly piqued. "Ooh, what happened to your neck? Don’t tell me a cat scratched you."
’Oh my God,’ she thought. ’That’s clearly the aftermath of him forcing himself on her. And that’s just his neck. The rest of his body is probably even more brutal. By the way, I thought Julian Donovan and Anna were making some progress? How did it turn into this? Was this their romantic evening together? This is completely different from what I imagined. I thought they’d have a candlelight dinner, some wine to set the mood, whisper sweet nothings, and then have a long, passionate night of making love...’ Just as the words left Willow’s mouth, Dylan’s brow furrowed, his eyes fixed on Julian Donovan. Julian shot Willow an angry glare. Dylan asked quietly, "Why didn’t Mom come with you?"
Willow Summers, knowing full well she had misspoken, buried her face in her husband’s chest and mumbled, "Having a son with such a high IQ is going to be the death of me!"
Walter Jennings chuckled at her. "Who told you to speak without thinking?"
She protested by reaching up and pinching the flesh at his waist.
"She’s a little tired, so she’s waiting for you at home. Let’s go, we’re heading back."
Julian Donovan answered Dylan, then walked over and picked up Joy, who was sitting there quietly. For some reason, as he bent down to lift her, he thought he saw a hint of himself in her facial features. A sharp pain suddenly shot through his heart.
But when he looked at Joy again, all he saw was a little face that strongly resembled Naomi Shaw. He shook his head, dismissing his foolish hope. ’I must be having illusions,’ he thought. ’It’s because I want a daughter with her so badly.’
After Julian Donovan left with Dylan and Joy, Willow Summers sighed. "Yikes. Julian Donovan really forced the issue. I’d say he has a long road ahead of him in winning her back..."
Walter Jennings glared furiously at his tactless wife. She quickly raised her hands in surrender. "Okay, okay, stop it. I still have to write. I haven’t posted today’s update yet..."
Just as Walter Jennings was about to protest, she started tugging at her hair and crying out in frustration, "Agh, I’ve dug my own grave! I wrote a super angsty scene yesterday, and now I’ve completely blocked myself! Waaaah..."
Walter Jennings immediately grinned and sidled up to her. "Well, if that’s the case, then you should definitely do something else to take your mind off it!"
She raked her hands through her hair in anguish. "No, no, I can’t! If I miss an update, my editor will hunt me down, and the girls in my fan group will bombard me!"
Her mind was completely consumed with writing, to the point of rejecting his advances. A wave of jealousy washed over Walter Jennings. He pinned her in place and asked fiercely, "What’s more important, me or your writing?"
Deliberately teasing him, Willow Summers blinked her lively eyes and replied thoughtfully, "I love words more than I love any man..."
Exasperated, Walter Jennings swept her up into his arms and strode toward the bedroom. "Willow Summers, if I don’t change your mind today, then my name isn’t Jennings!"
’Damn woman,’ he fumed. ’Words are more important than me? How could those dry, lifeless words possibly compare to her handsome, rich, and charming husband?’
The moment he picked her up, Willow Summers started laughing and begging for mercy. "I was wrong, I was wrong!"
She wrapped her arms around his neck, her smile radiant and captivating. "Walter Jennings, I love you the most. How could I not love you? In my heart, nothing can compare to you..."
’It’s true, how could she not love him? She could give up everything, but she could never give up on him. This was the man who had brought her a new life, the man who had let her taste all the varied flavors of love, the man who had completely taken over her heart...’
"That’s more like it..."
Julian Donovan drove Dylan and Joy back to his home. The empty bedroom was proof that she had left. He stood in the doorway, his face clouded with dejection. She had left after all. He had threatened her not to leave, but now that she was actually gone, he didn’t know what to do.
He turned, picked up Joy, and said to Dylan, "Come with me. We’re taking Joy back."
Dylan frowned and looked at him. "What happened between you and Mom?"
"Nothing."
He said calmly, then carried Joy downstairs.
When the car arrived at her apartment building, Julian Donovan had Dylan take Joy’s hand and lead her inside. He didn’t have the courage to go in and face her.
Dylan got out of the car, holding Joy’s hand. Julian Donovan called out to them again, then pulled his own phone from his pocket and handed it to Dylan. "Give this to your mom."
He had smashed her phone tonight, and it would be inconvenient for her to have no way to communicate. Besides, he had several phones. She could use his personal one for the time being.
Clever as he was, Dylan could of course see that they’d had a fight. He didn’t say anything, simply taking the phone and leading Joy into the building.
Naomi Shaw was already home, curled up miserably on the sofa. Ever since Sean Donovan had told her about that incident last night, her mind had been in a complete daze. She really, truly didn’t have the courage to think about it anymore.
Dylan’s voice came from outside the door. "Mom, are you home? I brought Joy back..."
She quickly stood up, wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, and tried to make herself look normal before opening the door for Dylan. Dylan was standing outside, holding Joy’s little hand. The moment Joy saw her, she burrowed into her arms, wanting to be held. "Mommy..."
Naomi Shaw bent down to pick up Joy, then asked Dylan, "Dylan, how did you get here?"
"Dad brought us. He’s waiting for me outside."
Dylan’s words made her expression freeze for a moment. Then she saw him hold out the phone in his hand. "Dad said this is for you to use."
She glanced at the expensive phone, then at Dylan’s unblinking gaze fixed on her. She reached out and took it. No matter how bad things got between them, she still wanted to do everything she could to minimize the harm to her two children.
"Mom, did Dad bully you again?"
Dylan asked, his little brow furrowed. Her heart ached. She crouched down to look at him and said softly, "Dylan, these are not things you should be worrying about..."
"But I’m worried about you!"
’Mom has always been so gentle and fragile.’ He wished he could grow up faster so he could protect her.
Naomi Shaw ruffled Dylan’s hair and smiled, comforting him in a gentle voice. "Mom’s fine. You don’t need to worry about me. Be good and go on back now. I’ll come see you often."
"Okay. Goodbye, Mom!"
Dylan leaned in to kiss her cheek, waved goodbye, and turned to leave. She lived on the ground floor, so he was out of the building in just a few steps. Holding Joy, she stood just inside the building’s entrance, watching until she saw Dylan get into Julian Donovan’s car before she went back inside.
After Julian Donovan’s car drove away, another black car pulled away from the curb and followed. In the back seat, a man’s lips curved into a knowing smile as his long fingers danced across his phone’s keyboard: *Well done. At the Wincastle Film Festival in a few days, the Best Actress award is yours for the taking.*
After taking Dylan home, Julian Donovan called Felix Draper and Caleb Rhodes out for a drink. When Felix heard what Sean Donovan had done, he was furious. "That’s truly despicable!"
Caleb Rhodes frowned in thought. "I have a feeling that someone as scheming as him wouldn’t be content with just running a single hospital."
