CEO, Your Wife Has Left-Chapter 60: You’re Finally Awake
Everyone else was chatting in the living room, while Kenneth Yates and Dominic Thorne were in their rooms, working.
BANG!
The door to the sickroom swung open. A bitter smile spread across Ronan Jenkins’s pale face, as if to say, ’I’m back!’
Sean Murphy froze. He was so completely overwhelmed with joy, he was at a loss for words.
He shot up and ran to Ronan Jenkins, who was leaning against the door, and threw his arms around him. "Ronan, you’re finally awake!" He was smiling, but his eyes unexpectedly welled up with tears.
Ronan Jenkins’s hands hovered awkwardly in the air, unsure of what to do. After a long moment, he let them fall to his sides, simply letting Sean Murphy hold him and recount the events of the past few days.
A moment later, Kenneth Yates and Dominic Thorne hurried downstairs. Seeing Ronan Jenkins awake, they both breathed a sigh of relief.
Felix Locke served dinner, and naturally, Wendy Vaughn stayed to eat with them.
"Sean, have some of this. It’s your favorite," Wendy Vaughn said, placing some food on Sean Murphy’s plate. Nearby, Dominic Thorne and Felix Locke both sucked in a sharp breath. Kenneth Yates and Ronan Jenkins, however, acted as if they’d seen nothing and continued to eat. But no one noticed how Ronan’s hand, the one holding his chopsticks, suddenly trembled, nearly causing him to drop them.
"Wendy, you should eat too. Hmm... let’s see. You like this," he said, placing her favorite dish onto her plate.
"Thank you, Sean!" Wendy Vaughn said with a bashful smile. Sean Murphy smiled back at her dotingly.
One smile brightened a heart; that same smile pierced another...
Everyone at the table was lost in their own thoughts. Except for that perfect pair, the meal was utterly tasteless for the rest of them.
After dinner, Kenneth Yates went up to the roof. The evening wind was getting chilly. ’I wonder if she’s dressed warmly enough.’
"Boss."
Kenneth Yates turned to see Ronan Jenkins. "Ronan, you’re still recovering. It’s too windy up here. Go back inside."
"I’m fine, Boss. Don’t worry about me." Ronan Jenkins walked over to Kenneth Yates’s side, seeming to want to say something but stopping short.
"You’ve been awake for a while, haven’t you, Ronan?" Kenneth Yates asked, looking up at the twinkling stars.
Ronan Jenkins stared at Kenneth Yates in astonishment before breaking into a laugh. "I really can’t hide anything from you!"
"Every time I went in to see you, the sheets on your bed were different." Kenneth Yates turned and leaned back against the railing, crossing his arms as he looked at Ronan.
"Heh, yeah. I guess I could only ever fool Sean with something like that." Ronan lowered his head.
"What are you going to do now?"
"I’ll stay here and take care of the business in Francelia."
"I was asking about Sean." He seemed to be deliberately avoiding Kenneth Yates’s question.
"We’ll just go back to square one. Everything will be like it was before. It just takes time." ’That’s right. I’ve been around Sean too much lately, and it’s stirred up feelings I can’t seem to quiet. I have to believe that time will wash it all away. Then we can go back to the cold distance we had before.’
"Dominic and I are heading home tomorrow. You take care of Sean."
"I will."
In the living room, Wendy Vaughn was telling Sean Murphy about recent events, and he listened patiently. The radiant smile on her face warmed his heart.
"Sean, we’re out of rooms at the villa. Why don’t you take Wendy to a hotel?" Felix Locke suggested, coming downstairs. "Now that everyone’s here, we’re completely full. There are no spare rooms."
"Great! Let’s go, Sean! We can stay somewhere else!" Wendy Vaughn was delighted at the prospect of being alone with Sean Murphy.
"How about this: you take my room. I’ll go stay with Ronan and help look after him." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Aww..." Wendy Vaughn pouted.
"Wendy, just listen," Sean said, his expression turning serious.
"Fine!" Wendy Vaughn huffed, getting to her feet and going upstairs in a huff.
