CEO, Your Wife Has Left-Chapter 87: I’ll Go to You
Caleb gave Summer a fond smile.
After breakfast, Caleb drove Summer to Floria. There, an ocean of flowers stretched out before them, filling the air with a delightful fragrance. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
It was autumn, and most of the flowers were in bloom. A gentle breeze swept by, sending petals dancing through the air. The visitors seemed to merge with the distant blue sky. All one had to do was close their eyes to enjoy the beauty of nature.
Summer closed her eyes, savoring the peaceful, beautiful moment. A petal drifted down onto her shoulder. She opened her eyes and picked it up—it was a pale purple lavender petal.
"Caleb, why did you bring me here?"
"I come here to get away from the world. It’s quiet and peaceful. Whenever I run into trouble, I come here. It’s as if my worries just vanish." Caleb looked at Summer. "Do you like it? I know you love flowers, especially champagne roses."
Summer froze. ’I only like champagne roses because Kenneth does.’ She realized her life had been completely filled by him; even her smallest habits had likely formed around his preferences.
’But isn’t it exhausting to be this way?’ Summer had questioned herself more than once. She could change for Kenneth, do things she disliked for him, and walk through fire and water for him without hesitation. But the one thing she couldn’t tolerate was him holding her in his arms while thinking of another woman.
"Summer, would you like to walk further in? They have roses there," Caleb invited.
"No, I’d rather not. Let’s just look at the lavender," Summer said, hastily declining his invitation. Seeing those other flowers would only remind her of Kenneth from last night. ’Maybe I should switch from champagne roses to lavender,’ she thought. ’Switch from "my heart belongs only to you" to "waiting for love."’
"Summer, are you upset? It’s okay. You can talk to me."
"No, I’m fine. Oh! Why don’t we walk up the mountain? We can see what it feels like to look down on everything from the top. What do you think?"
"Okay, let’s go!" Caleb agreed. As long as Summer was happy, he would do anything.
Meanwhile, Dominic Thorne had found Summer’s location. But she was with Caleb Bell, of all people. Kenneth couldn’t stand Caleb, which put Dominic in a bind. He didn’t know how he was going to tell Kenneth.
"Boss, we found Summer. She’s on Mount Floria. We’ll send some men to get her in a bit, so you don’t have to worr— Hello? Hello?" But Kenneth had already hung up. Panicked, Dominic rushed out and started his engine. He hadn’t told Kenneth that Summer was with Caleb precisely because he was afraid Kenneth would rush over there himself. He never expected him to just hang up.
The moment Kenneth heard Dominic’s words, he bolted from his office, glancing at his watch as he ran. ’Mount Floria... if I speed, I can be there in thirty minutes.’ He knew he had messed up. He never should have let that nostalgic look cross his face in front of her. She knew his past, so she must have guessed he was thinking of Thea Shaw. He had left without a word, leaving her all alone to overthink things. ’I was such a bastard yesterday,’ he thought now.
Back at the company, chaos had erupted. The CEO had suddenly walked out of a meeting without saying a word, and in a great hurry at that. The board members were buzzing with speculation. Fletcher had no choice but to step forward, invent some excuse to calm everyone down, and try to restore order. He felt utterly exhausted. ’It’s always like this,’ he fumed internally. ’I’m always the one left to clean up his messes. I’m definitely demanding a raise next time.’
