Chapter 197: His Allegations

Not far away from the city center, Ash stormed into one of the luxurious penthouses in a high-end apartment building, uninvited and filled with fury. Ava had informed him about what had happened to Amy and Henry, leading him to confront his father, Lucas Brighton. However, Lucas denied all of Ash’s allegations.

Having been granted access to the penthouse by its owner, Ash found it convenient to bypass the front desk and guards without any hindrance. In fact, this is not his first time going there, he had been a frequent visitor to the building in the past few days.

Although the guards and receptionists greeted him upon his entry into the building, Ash was in no mood to respond. He pressed on, taking long strides until he reached the elevator. Wasting no time, Ash hurriedly stepped inside the penthouse as soon as the doors opened.

"VANESSA!!!" Ash’s furious scream reverberated through the penthouse. His rage was so intense that he felt the urge to destroy everything in his path.

Vanessa, who had been lazily enjoying coffee and reading the news on her tablet out on the balcony, promptly stood up to attend to the agitated man who had barged into her penthouse.

"VANESSA! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU? GET YOUR DAMN @SS OUT HERE NOW!!!" Ash yelled once more after failing to find her in the living room.

"For heaven’s sake, Ash, calm down. Why are you screaming so early in the morning?" Vanessa asked, adjusting her night robe.

"Don’t act innocent with me! Why did you take action without informing me first?!" Ash’s voice remained high-pitched and unrestrained.

"Is this about the plane crash?" Vanessa inquired as she settled onto the sofa.

"Damn right, it is! What else do you think could make me this furious?!" If given the chance, Ash would strangle Vanessa without hesitation.

"I didn’t do it. I wish I had known their destination so I could have assisted whoever did it. You’re insulting me, Ash. The attempt was so poorly executed, and you suspect me of such a shoddy job. You underestimate me," Vanessa sighed, shaking her head in resignation.

"Then who did it? Was it your father?" Ash persisted, determined to extract the truth from Vanessa.

"Ash, if either my father or I was responsible, don’t you think hiring a hitman would be a much easier and more effective way to eliminate Amy? If I wanted to harm your woman, I would never endanger Henry’s life, and you’re aware of that. I assume it’s the same for you when it comes to Amy, am I right?" Vanessa explained, gesturing for Ash to take a seat.

Taking a deep breath, Ash reluctantly accepted Vanessa’s reasoning, acknowledging that she was correct. Additionally, they had a plan in motion that far surpassed the plane crash. "So, who do you think did it?" Ash asked as he settled into his seat.

"I have no idea. If Henry had been seriously injured, I would unquestionably hunt down the person responsible. But since he’s alright, are you planning to take action?" Vanessa inquired.

"Amy was harmed, she lost her child, and I want the person responsible to suffer. I will find that @sshole," Ash declared, clenching his fist tightly.

"So, what’s your plan?" Vanessa asked, her curiosity piqued.

"I will gather information and provide it to Ava so they can expedite the investigation," Ash replied without hesitation.

"You’re quite the martyr, Ash. Why not solve it yourself and show Amy how reliable you can be?" Vanessa suggested.

"No, I’m sticking to our plan. It’s better that way," Ash responded before bidding Vanessa farewell.

Back in the hospital...

Sandra returned to Welsh Holdings’ building to handle some of Amy’s tasks while Rei collaborated with the authorities and Uncle Trev on the investigation.

Since Amy was recovering quickly, it was decided that she could go home the following day but would still need to rest for the entire week before returning to work. Henry, too, wanted to take care of Amy himself, understanding that her pain was not only physical but emotional as well.

In the meantime, Anton and Mary would manage their respective companies while patiently waiting for their dear friends to recover from the tragedy. Anton’s family spent time with Amy and Henry, while Roana and her family waited in the hallway.

The previous night’s dinner didn’t go as expected, and they still had unfinished business to address.

"Anton, may we speak with you for a moment, please?" Roana’s mother requested.

Anton nodded, turning to Mary. "I’ll be back. Please wait for me."

Anton, Roana, and her parents moved to the end of the hallway to have some privacy.

"Anton, we want to apologize for last night. We had no idea that Mary was in your penthouse. But we’re desperate. We need to ask for your help," Roana’s father explained, and Anton listened attentively.

"Roana is in a custody battle with her ex-husband over their son. To have a fighting chance, she needs a more stable job that will allow her to earn more and support her child. Her current job isn’t enough to win the case. We hope that you can find it in your heart to help us, for the sake of old times," Roana’s mother pleaded.

Anton crossed his arms, carefully considering their request. He looked back and forth between Roana and her parents, not particularly fond of what they were asking. However, as Roana’s mother had mentioned, it was for old times’ sake. With that sentiment in mind, he made a decision to help them, but only this one last time.

"Alright, what do you need from me? Do you need a recommendation letter so she can secure a job here in the city?" Anton questioned.

"I am actually thinking of applying for a job under you, in Welsh Holdings. You know my background and I think I am qualified enough to take a job there, but I lack the experience. Once I have enough experience I will leave and find a job on my own. I will not bother you anymore. Please help me." Roana was the one who spoke this time.

Anton stood there, utterly flabbergasted. He couldn’t believe what is she asking of him. After all, she had done to him, she had the audacity to request something as significant as this.
