Chaos Carrier With A Broken Talent-Chapter 42: Equilibrium of the Elements
When a Carrier came to the Desolate Meadow to take part in the Thunder of Four Howls, he had to be prepared for a deadly outcome.
Sure, it was always possible to survive, no matter what the situation, but only if you had enough strength to do so. Otherwise, a less favorable fate awaited you.
In fact, the encounter with the Lost Knight, the final opponent of the trial, posed the least threat to life due to several special conditions.
However, first, it was necessary to survive until that moment, which was not possible for everyone.
It wasn’t just the dangerous monsters and the competition between the participants who were willing to kill each other, like the bald man’s group.
If there were too many survivors left, special guards would arrive with only one task: to reduce the number to the required amount.
There were only four Twilight Reapers, one on each side. Their thin bodies had no clear structure, appearing as soaring ghosts that slowly moved towards their victims.
Like all monsters in the Thunder of Four Howls, they were armed with swords, each carrying one - woven from dense white energy.
Ethan frowned, sensing a powerful aura from the Twilight Reaper moving toward them. He couldn’t tell what Tier the Twilight Reapers were, but they were superior to the Crooked Growon or Voracious Plant.
"What are we going to do? You said we don’t stand a chance against them, but there are three of us and he’s alone. Are we completely helpless?"
In response, Klaus nodded deeply.
"Yes. We simply cannot harm them. Their bodies... they are not physical, but consist entirely of energy." Klaus jerked his head to the side. "Look."
Ethan turned toward the west.
Two men with bows fired their arrows while their five allies with swords slowly backed away.
The arrows hit their targets, but they passed through the Twilight Reaper’s body. The holes quickly healed with energy.
"Well, those are just regular arrows. They’re useless against many monsters." Ethan waved his hand dismissively.
He remembered throwing his sword at the Crooked Growon. Sure, he was much weaker then, but the sharp weapon just bounced off its tough hide.
"Yes, but it’s not just the arrows."
As Klaus spoke, several swordsmen attacked.
Flaming and water blades slashed through the air, approaching the Twilight Reaper.
If physical objects couldn’t hurt him, then they had to use energy, that is, abilities.
It was logical, but...
Crack. Crack.
With a swing of his sword, the Twilight Reaper destroyed the blades with his superior power. He was fast and strong enough to break any projectile that flew his way.
At the same time, a second Twilight Reaper approached them.
It was unknown how many participants they had to kill for the next part to begin, but it was obvious that everyone had a chance to become a victim of their swords.
Slash.
The white sword came down on Klaus as he reacted instantly and jumped aside. The ghostly blade left a cleave on the ground as the Twilight Reaper slowly turned around.
He had no face, but his eyes, two black orbs, stared intently at the three young Carriers before him.
"Guys, I have a plan!" Aime said as she jumped aside so that the Twilight Reaper wouldn’t hit her.
Klaus’s eyes widened. "What? There can be no plan! We should just run away until they disappear!"
Klaus’s sharp refusal left Aime at a loss. She was brave enough to try to fight the Twilight Reaper, but she wasn’t so foolish as to do so without backup.
"Hey, if you want to, go ahead." Ethan’s low voice rang out. "I’ll help."
But before taking action, Aime had something to find out.
"What’s your element?!"
Whoooosh.
The Twilight Reaper’s sword swept over Ethan’s head as he ducked.
"Darkness!"
That was enough for Aime.
Step.
She stepped aside while the Twilight Reaper tried to reach Ethan and Klaus, who were trying to survive.
Aime spread her arms out when the purple rings appeared above her hands. They were small, but spun quickly like spools of thread.
Her fingers spread out as several strong strings shot out of the rings, heading straight for the Twilight Reaper.
The monster had his back turned to her, but he still managed to react and cut several strings, however, the rest managed to grab the Twilight Reaper’s arm.
Aime had only one goal — to deprive the Twilight Reaper of his sword, even if only for a few seconds.
She succeeded.
"Go! You must atta-!"
BLAST!
Before Aime could finish her sentence, a dark projectile reflected in her eyes and crashed directly into the Twilight Reaper.
RRRRGGGHHH!!!
A strange, frightening creaking sound came from the Twilight Reaper. His body shook violently, trying to throw off the darkness that burned like black flames.
Aime’s strings could no longer hold the Twilight Reaper, but it didn’t matter anymore.
Under their gaze, in a panic, the Twilight Reaper turned into torn white shreds carried away by the wind.
Nothing remained in his place, almost nothing.
Tap.
A white crystal with black edges fell to the ground, resembling the grim shards, but slightly larger and much brighter.
[Twilight Shard
It is rare for this shard to fall into the hands of a random traveler. It requires not only special conditions but also victory over a servant of the Lost Knight. This shard can give one chance or take it away from someone else.]
Ethan turned to Klaus.
"I assume you have no idea what this thing does, right?" He showed him the twilight shard.
With his eyes wide open in disbelief, Klaus shook his head.
He had heard of the grim shards, it was common knowledge, but the twilight shards? That was far beyond.
Ethan raised the twilight shard, looking through it at the raging lightning. The next trial would begin soon, for the Twilight Reapers had almost completed their task.
’Well, well... I don’t know what I’ll be able to do with this thing, but the old man was right. Saving Aime was the right decision. Hah, one ally is good, but two is better.’
