The desert was served while her uncle Julio tried to make small talk with the don. If her uncle giulio was unsuccessful then her uncle, Giuseppe came in.

It was such a familiar tactic for Evelyn. If one brother could not handle it the other one came in between. But this was something that only happened in between the three of the younger ones. When it came to her father, he had no safety net.

Carlos was alone till the very end.

"Evelyn?" Natalia gave her a smile. "The men are going to retire for a drink upstairs in the office. Would you like to come and sit with us?"

No. Evelyn had no intention of sitting with them but they didn’t have a cup of coffee.

But here she did not have the complete authority to decide for herself which is why she looked at Salvatore.

He gave her a nod. "I’ll be back after a drink." Wiping the corner of his lips Salvatore stood up and everyone followed. He gave her eldest uncle or not who in return Led The Don to the office where her father was hauled up for most of the time.

Evelyn watched them disappear as the door closed to the office that was held by her father. So they had taken that as well?

"Evelyn," Gianna spoke up, "come sit with us." She was right behind the dons chair. Their Salvatore had been previously sitting. She looked down at Evelyn with so much hatred that no longer affected Evelyn.

Yet she paid respect to the future owner of the house and stood up from the dining table only to walk to the living room.

"What did you do with the pictures?" Evelyn lost as her eyes moved around the familiar wall where the picture of her parents were. It was not like she wanted to take the pictures with her but she would still like to know what was done with them.

"We did not throw them away if that’s what you’re asking, Evelyn," Natalia replied from the couch adjacent to her. "We still have them all in the store room. If you want to take them with you, we can have them packed."

Did she want that?

"I’ll see to that." Evelyn said that instead as she was still deep in her thoughts. She might as well just look at the photos, browse through and keep the one she wanted.

"Are we going to ignore what you have done?" Gianna’s sharp voice whipped away the little friendliness the room had.

Evelyne’s eyes moved to her. "What have I done?"

Gianna scoffed. "Could you forget your family when you went to that house? Your first priority should have been the fact that you had to help your family, you should have invited us for dinner, you should have invited your aunts over! How could you forget that we were your living family members?"

How delusional could one person get before being admitted to a mental Asylum?

Her aunt wanted Evelyn to invite her family members to that house so that they could get face to face and break bread with the don. Two of them, actually.

Gianna wanted Evelyn to invite her aunts specifically over to the mansion so that they could make their way into Alexis’s mind. Since Salvatore was not married yet, Alexis mattered the most.

Evelyn slowly shook her head as if understanding where all of this was coming from. Even if they were her living family members still care about themselves more than they could care about her. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

For them, Evelyn could be tortured in their house and they would not care any less.

"What I am doing, Gianna," did not bother to hide the fact that she did not want to acknowledge the relationship. "I want you to understand that I want my cousins away from me. It is very clear to me that none of us care for each Other unless we can be of use—"

"Evelyn!" Natalia admonished her. " What is it that you talk of? At the end of the day we are family members and we will care for one another."

Well, she called bullshit on that.

"Luigi grabbed my elbow in the university today. Enough for it to bruise." Evelyn could not have been thankful for wearing a full sleeve dress as it also looked much better.

"Not only did he do it in a University filled with people, he also did it in front of my guard." Evelyn gave her a smile. "and the guard would have always reported it to the don."

Evelyn revealed the event within all honesty to her aunts who looked at each other with visible shock.

"Wha-what?" Natalia whispered and then turned her head to Gianna. "Told all of you that it would not be a good idea to send him to the same University that Evelyn went to!"

Too late for that now. Salvatore knew very well what happened and this was not going to leave his mind and that was one thing that Evelyn knew for sure.

Gianna continued to stare at her sister-in-law for a few seconds before she gulped and turned to Evelyn. "Don’t you do us all a favour in return? I want you to tell the Don that you provoked your cousin to do that."

The hell? Evelyn scoffed. Why in the world would never do that to herself?

Evelyn shook her head in Denial. "I won’t do that. He knows the truth. The university has cameras too."

Camera? Why was she sounding so defensive?

Evelyn closed her eyes for a brief second before opening them again. Of course these people favoured her cousin over her. Uncle Guiseppe was an asset while she was not.

Natalia spoke up very softly, "Evelyn, I have known you since you were a little girl and I know you will never want your brother to be hurt. Can you please do that for us?"

What wretched people!

Just as Evelyn tried to conjure up some kind of answer for the pathetic question the office door opened and Salvatore walked out.
