Chapter 259: Family time - III

Evelyn kept her eyes trained on her daughter who was playing with her cousin without a sign of fear or the trauma that she had previously shown.

Still not convinced, Especially after the cryptic answer given by Angelo, she kept an eye out for both of them.

"Hey," Evelyn heard a familiar voice and before she knew it, someone had taken a seat beside her on the couch.

Turning to the person occupying the seat, Evelyn greeted Bella Rosa back.

"How have you been?" Bella Rosa asked. "It has been quite some time since we last met."

"It has. Yes." Evelyn agreed. "I have been good, thank you."

The awkwardness in between them was apparent. It might be even visible to someone if they look closely but Evelin did not let it bother her. Instead, she kept her eyes trained on the children, looking for any kind of sign of fear shown by her daughter.

"Um," Bella Rosa cleared her throat. " Would you like to have a cup of coffee?"

"I have some in the morning. Thank you. Would you like me to send one for you?"

"Oh no," Bella spoke quickly. "I am fine. Thank you."

This was fun. Even though she felt a tiny amount of guilt bubble up inside her, Evelyn squashed it down.

They were supposed to raise children up to a certain age until the initiation into the organisation.

Telling her children about traitors and betrayal, that was something Bella Rosa was never supposed to do. They were supposed to remain with the luxury of innocence as long as they could.

"Well, uh.." Bella gulped, "I will get that coffee for myself."

Evelyn did not even acknowledge her sister in law as the form and got up and walked out of the room. The moment she knew that Bella Rosa had left, she leaned back into the couch, relieved with the absence of her.

"Ahem," A forceful clearing of a male throat startled Evelyn. When she looked into the production of the noise, she found Angelo staring at her.

"What?" She asked, a bit defensively.

He sighed. "What’s your age? Thirty? Thirty five?"

"Thir—" Evelyn shook her head, coming herself down before returning to the conversation. "I will be twenty five this year."

"and you still have awkward conversations with your family members?" He cocked up an eyebrow, much like how Salvador would do.

"What awkward conversations?"

"don’t act like you do not know what I’m talking about. The conversation with Bella Rosa. Do you think I can’t observe what happened?"

Evelyn stretched her lips into an unimpressed smile but it will not bother to give him a reply. Since he had already seen it, it would not make sense for her to deny it any longer.

"Have you got nothing to say?"

"What do you want me to say?" Evelyn shrugged. "You saw what happened, I don’t want to talk about it."

He scoffed and ever and why didn’t her eyes briefly at the blatant show of disrespect towards her opinions. He literally behaved like a father who thought of nothing when his children had any opinions.

"What?"

Harsh how to win loss settled next to her where Bella Rosa had been sitting previously. Instead of looking at her, he too, started to look at the young girls playing with a gaint Barbie doll house in front of them.

" those two girls did not take more than 10 minutes of my time to understand that they were family, that they were supposed to be there for each other and small fights were meant to be ignored." He glanced at her, "those fights were to be forgotten, learned from and to be moved past."

Forgotten, learnt from, and to be moved past. Was that the teaching that Angela had given to his children?

"Is that what you told your children? My child too?"

He nodded, "to my children, yes, but your daughter and Elsia or too young for this. They understood that they were cousins and were family. Something that their mothers clearly do not understand." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

"I thought she was traumatised." Evelyn added after a heartbeat. "she’s always excited to meet other children but she never talked about Alicia after that."

"Kids are less complicated and give them credit for. I don’t understand the psychology bullshit and all, but at times a promise is just enough."

"Alessia made a promise to Arabella?"

Angelo tutted. " Don’t worry about what happened with the girls, it’s over now. Worry about what you are going to do to meet your relationship with Bella Rosa. Start slow if you want, but the next time I look at the both of you, you should be talking like the sisters you are meant to be."

Evelyn bit her lip, thinking over what he said as she stared at two girls before looking back to Angelo who was already staring at her while standing up.

"I can only be a guide for children. However, I refuse to do it for adults who can sort it out. Family is the only one that is going to stand behind your back, Evely, no matter what you do. Don’t throw it away."

Without waiting for a reply, he turned around and left, leaving her alone with the two girls.

After roughly five minutes or so, Bella Rosa returned with a cup of coffee in her hand. The moment she sat down, Evelyn got up and walked into the kitchen only to return with a similar cup of coffee but empty in her hands.

"Share?" She held out the cup to Bella Rosa, a silent offering of peace in case she was still up for it.

Her sister-in-law widened her eyes for a brief second before she nodded. "Yes!"

She very carefully poured half of her coffee into the mug of Evelyn. When the board had an equal amount of it, they took a small sip in sync.

"Do you want to go shopping again?"

Evelyn smirked, "with or without kids?"
