Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 91: The threats - IV
It was an honour, a privilege no less than others to be able to call The Don by his name especially when you were not connected to the family in any way, especially blood.
"I-I can?" Evelyn stammered in shock.
She could take his name? That was not common for anyone who was placed under the protection of someone. If he wanted her to call him by his name then Evelyn knew why he was doing it.
He gave her a firm not before going back to cutting the cold meat.
Understanding that the conversation was effectively over Evelyn went back to cutting the cheese.
Once Salvatore and she were done, it was then she noticed that Lucas had made spaghetti for them all. It would not be the cheese and the meat that were going to fill the children. The adults could enjoy it with the wine. The children were still dependent on solid food and they released the spaghetti made by their uncle.
The brothers ate lazily. Each of them had a glass of wine in their hands and Evelyn did as well. The cheese and meat were being eaten with pleasure as the boys talked to each other.
"I want to go to sleep." Vittorio mumbled and Alessia, the sauce monster nodded too.
"Let’s go then," Salvatore said as he stood up and picked up the twin boy. "Evelyn?" Salvatore said with an expectant look on his face.
Evelyn stared at him for a good 3 seconds before it clicked to her. "Oh," she went ahead and picked up Alessia.
She carried the little girl up the stairs and next to Salvatore’s room where the children were sleeping.
They both had been sleeping on twin beds and had different blankets that made it all the more easier for them. On one side was the boy and on the other was the girl.
"Do you think uncle salvi would tell a story?" Alessia mumbled sleepily.
The question made Evelyn chuckle and without realising she might have said it in front of the don she spoke, "the don tells you stories?"
Vittorio giggled. "His is funny."
"Uncle Salvi?" Alessia Austin asleep eaten with the full pout on her lips making Evelyn coo at her.
And the don did the most unlikely thing she would have ever imagined him to do. Salvatore stood next to the foot of the bed before letting go of himself and falling on the bed making him bounce on top of the mattress. The other bounced with him and the kids laughed heartily.
"Once upon a time," the don began and that made Evelyn’s eyes pop out, "there was a stupid princess who did not think that education was important neither did she think that having skills was necessary" He mocked and the children giggled.
"All she did was wait in a giant castle for a prince and expected—"
"What if he was ugly?" Alessia raised her concerns.
"Exactly," Salvatore snapped his finger at her. "That is a very good point, little one."
Alessia hummed before stomping her feet. She opened her mouth to say something but Evelyn noticed something over her forehead before it went away in a blink of the eyes.
It was there she knew that. But it vanished just as quickly. A red dot in between her eyes.
Evelyn purposely blinked her eyes again. She blinked them once, twice, thrice and even more than five times but she did not see the dot again.
"It was there. . " She whispered to herself. She very well knew that it was there. She saw it!
Something touched her shoulder making her gasp loudly and stand up.
Salvatore stood there with slightly narrowed eyes and a frowning face. "Is everything alright, Evelyn?" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
She gulped slightly before giving him a nod. The tensions have not completely washed out of your system. Evelyn found herself to be more rigid than she had never felt before.
"Really?" He folded his arms in front of his chest making the muscles bulge out.
She put her eyes back to his face. Quite forcefully.
"Evelyn," he snapped his fingers in front of her face, making Evelyn jump slightly, "I am going to ask us for the last time. Is there something that is worrying you?"
There was. But how was she supposed to say it to him? If anything Salvatore would hold him responsible for bringing someone with a gun inside his house. She was the cause of the thread and if wanted she was to be the one to be eliminated first.
"No," she whispered, "I don’t."
A flash of Red Dot with the face of Alessia in her mind. Whoever it was had not considered the child to be innocent enough and had placed a sniper shot on them.
Was she even sure about it though? How could even be sure that it was just not one of her thoughts?
"Evelyn?" Salvatore’s touch brought her back to reality as she looked at him, who looked more concerned than before. "Come and sit down."
He very slowly took her to the couch in the room. It was only one so they both were sitting on the two seater couch.
"Breathe," he softly said, "Breathe. Slowly." Not only did he say them very gently Salvatore also moved his chest up and down as he loudly inhaled and exhaled showing her what to do as Evelyn repeated after him.
She did do as he told her to but everyone was not sure if it was his presence or the breathing exercise that helped.
That feeling inside her heart made her rethink everything.
"Do you want a hug?"
Evelyn’s head snapped towards him. Did she hear that correctly or was it just in her mind like the Red Dot?
"I said it." He sighed. "I am not forcing you. So, do you want a hug or not?"
She did.
Evelyn gave him a nod before shifting close. Just before she went ahead to wrap her arms around him Salvatore picked her up and placed her on his lap sideways before putting his chin on top of her head and wrapping his arms around her.
"There you go," he said as he rubbed her shoulders, "it’s alright."
