Chapter 92: A yes, it was. - I

Evelyn felt his gentle eubs over her back. Who could have known that a mafia boss could be so gentle with his touches? It did not seem like his hands had killed people or held guns more than they had ever held roses.

After a while, she pulled away from him having seeked enough confort.

Evelyn glanced at him. "Thank you." She conveyed her gratitude to him. "I don’t really know what happened." It just seemed to have happened.

For a while it seemed like he could not even control her thoughts. They were running wild in her mind and no matter how much she tried to rail them inside, in one direction, it did not happen.

"It’s alright Evelyn," Salvatore said as he very gently touched her forehead and caressed the skin on the side of head. It was right beside her hairline. "It is alright to panic. What matters right now is that you should know the reason for it."

So the don of a criminal organisation actually had knowledge but what to do in a mental health situation?

She gave him a nod and then made a move to stand up from his lap when his hand on her waist did not bulge. As if they had already not been close enough, Salvatore’s hand on her waist was a constant reminder of the proximity they were in.

"Do-Don?" She stuttered slightly and looked up at him.

He raised an eyebrow and somehow Evelyn knew what she had done wrong.

"Salvatore," she whispered to him. The word was like a breath that had left her mouth so silently that one could deny its existence.

"Yes," he pinched her nose a litte, "Salvatore. Call me by my name."

She would now. Evelyn hoped so.

"Um . ." She gulped slightly. She was very well aware of the fact that she was still in his lap. She had her hands against his chest trying to create some distance in between them. His hand remained permanent on her waist making it feel like a chain which kept them close.

"Yes?" He asked inquisitively. "How can I help you?" He looked so curious and interested in what she had to say that Evelyn nearly missed the small smirk that he had on his lips.

She narrowed her eyes very slightly. Two of them could play this game.

"Nothing Salvatore," she shook her head. "Just wondered what the kids must be thinking about."

Salvatore’s head snapped up to the bed where he saw that the kids were peacefully sleeping. He felt a small push and weight was lifted off of him. Without even glancing down he knew that by the small bounce beside him, Evelyn had gotten up from his lap and taken space beside him.

"Really?" He deadpanned and Evelyn gave him a cheeky grin. "Alright then, let’s go down."

History of and Evelyn followed him down stairs. The two brothers both the eldest and the youngest of them, were still in the kitchen and talking to each other over a glass of wine. The empty bottle of wine lay beside them on the table which meant that they had finished one.

"Here," Marcello slid the wine her way. Evelyn poured some wine for herself when Salvatore raised his glass into her direction making Evelyn pour the right amount of wine in his glass as well.

"When do you think mom and dad will be back?" Lucas asked when he sighed, as if tired already. "I miss her."

Evelyn stared at him before realising that Lucas was already drunk at this point.

"Go to bed."Salvatore said. "Do you want my help in that or would you be able to go down on your own?"

"Oh I can go down just fine." Lucas winked at Salvatore. "Do you want to check?"

Marcello threw his head back and lovely cackled that. "know what, I will remind you tomorrow." He got off the counter and patted Lucas’s back loudly. "Let’s go. I’ll sleep with you."

Lucas helped him to the lift and as the doors closed and the view of the brothers disappeared Evelyn turned around to face the man that was sitting next to her.

"Are you going to go to bed as well?’

"Do you want me to stay up?" He said it so quickly that Evelyn to a second to process.

"No, no," she shook her head and denied it.

To turn the attention away from her Evelyn stood up and started to collect all the dirty utensils. Instead of placing them in the dishwasher like she usually would she felt lazy which is why she just placed them in the sink, leaving them for the chef.

When she was done she turned around to find an unusually silent Salvatore. She tilted her head slightly and just before she blinked her eyes A Red Dot appeared between his eyes.

Evelyn blinked har enlarged eyes repeatedly to make sure that what she saw was real. It was the same as it was with Alessia.

It was gone with the blink of an eye making her question her sanity and if she saw it at all.

"Evelyn?" Her eyes moved to Salvatore who was walking towards her. "What’s wrong? It’s like you’re experiencing the same feelings again?"

She was.

Even though for a little movement her mind wandered to how Salvatore knew so much about this. Was he causing all of this?

She was going crazy.

She was witnessing exactly what she saw in the room where the kids were sleeping.

As Evelyn stared at his face to realise that this either had to be a play of her mind or it was reality. Both of them seem to be scary enough for her to think about what it was happening because of.

It was her answer that could have stopped all of this. Otherwise how long could she go on by seeing the red dot in between the eyes of everyone she knew or talked to?

First it had been the child that was barely 5 years old and then it was the don of another organisation. The fear of her own life and her loved ones came to her mind as Evelyn realised that this person was rather good at playing with her mind or they were actually going to commit to the job.

Both of which were the worst options for her to carry out. If either of them came true then she wondered what she might have to do.

She gulped as she complentated it all.

By tonight with house Salvatore had behaved Evelyn could tell that he would be a good husband. This family did not have a tradition of having a mistress on the side and even if he did that was the most normal thing one could find with the position of power.

So was saying yes to Salvatore D’alessandro really a big deal than what she was making it about? Because Evelyn then did not want to die and she could love him gradually. All she had to do was know him.

"Yes." She said, "My answer is yes."

Salvatore did not immediately catch on to the drift but when he did, his forehead cleared itself of the frown he had.

"Your answer is yes to my proposal?" He confirmed for her and she nodded. "Words, Evelyn. I need to hear your answer."

Alright then.

"Yes," she repeated herself. " I accept your proposal."

He did not accept your answer immediately even though she saw the flash of recognition on his face which meant that he knew what she was talking about.

This only made her question her decision of saying yes at this time. Perhaps he was too drunk to acknowledge something?

She gulped when he did not say something. How long has it been?

He continued to stare at her for a few seconds before nodding his head. "I’m not going to ask you to marry me immediately Evelyn. That is something we are going to see in the future. For now, is that alright?"

That was all she could ask for when it came to him.

If she was not going to be forced into marriage and Salvatore had enough guts to say that to her face then Evelyn would rarely have any kind of problem with him.

She nodded before she actually considered what was happening and then ended up struggling in front of him. "I have just been in one relationship that did not work out well. how about we discuss the dynamics of it while we’re dating?"

"Dating?" The word left visible distaste in his mouth but for Evelyn he nodded. "I understand." He nodded again. "It is past ten now, Evelyn. Go to bed."

Feeling slightly awkward at the end of conversation and especially with how it had ended. She felt dismissed like an employee but ended up giving him a nod and walking out of the kitchen.

Maybe things will get better tomorrow. She hoped for a better tomorrow.
