Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 141: Do you trust me?
"Max!" Valerie called alarmingly.
"I see it." Max said and grabbed the driver by the neck. "Stop this car right away or I’ll snap your neck."
The driver, with no will to live, turned his head, revealing a completely unfamiliar face, and grinned.
"I’ll die either way. But you have to die with me so I can ’live’. Hehe." He said creepily and Max clicked his tongue.
"Then, I guess I won’t be letting either of us die." He said and knocked him unconscious.
Max took over the wheel right away to prevent the car from getting off course and flying off the hill, but he couldn’t get into the driver’s seat because he could make a mistake and throw the car off course, so he called out to Valerie.
"Valerie, push the emergency brake button." He said, and Valerie, who didn’t know where that was, panicked.
But even while showing panic on her face, she still tried to act calmly.
"Where... where is it?" She asked.
"It’s right here." He used his eyes to direct her since he couldn’t take his hands off the wheels for even one second.
Valerie finally saw the button. It was deep under the rest and wasn’t even noticeable. She didn’t even know that there was an emergency brake in cars like these or was it done manually?
"I got it." She said and pushed the button, but the car was going too fast to stop with a simple push, so she panicked once more. "It’s not working." She yelled and pushed it again. "It’s not working, Max."
’Shit! They must’ve ruined all the brakes. So even if I stepped on the original brakes, nothing would happen.’ This was bad. This was really bad.
If they didn’t stop the car then they would both die.
’Shit, I can’t die here. I still have a lot to do with my wife.’ he thought and stared at Valerie who had sweat dripping the corners of her face.
She was worried and scared, staring at him with a little bit more hope that this situation would turn around somehow. He could see it.
"Relax, Valerie." He suddenly said, but how did he expect her to relax when they were only seconds away from a head-on collision with a fuel tanker? "Do you trust me?"
"I... I trust you." She said.
"Then, I want you to sit back and put your seatbelt on." He said, and Valerie nodded. She didn’t know what he was planning but she would trust him.
She sat back, put on her seatbelt, and nodded her head. Ready for what was to come.
"Now, hang on tight." With that, he spun the wheels. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Taking this sort of risk, he didn’t know what would happen. But he wanted to pin his hopes on his driving skills and turn the situation around somehow.
He spun the wheels, and the car spun drastically, threatening to summersault, but he kept his hands firm on it and let it keep spinning.
Valerie hung on tight with her eyes closed. The pressure was too much and there was no telling if she would be able to open her eyes after this. It was stiffening.
Then, she remembered the newspaper she saw of her dead parents, who crashed under their smashed car with her in their arms.
Did they pass through this same situation? Were they scared like this? She couldn’t fantom but at the moment, the height at which her heart was racing was far more dangerous than one could imagine.
’Yes, they definitely felt like this.’
But they were more scared than she was, and that was because in their arms, was their most priced treasure and the only thing they would risk it all to have. She could never fathom that sort of fear.
But she was scared. She was scared of losing this new life she came to have. This life of freedom. And the one who was trying his best to make sure they would make it out of there safely. She was scared.
The car spun for a while, and then it got to the tanker, but just as it was about to hit it, Max hit the acceleration and made the car drive forward towards the hills instead.
And thanks to the continuous spinning, the force at which the car collided with the hill was at a minimum and thus, they were both safe.
Max kept panting hard, seeing the car had finally stopped. They didn’t hit the tanker, and they were alive. He did it. He gave out a sigh of relief and suddenly got attacked by Valerie’s right embrace.
She had freed herself from her seatbelt and hugged him with all she had, and he hugged her back.
"It’s okay." He said. "We’re alive."
"Thank goodness." She cried. "I’m so glad."
She let her cry echo in the deserted cliff and Max did his best to pat her back.
"As much as I want to let you cry your heart out, Wife, let’s get out of here before anything else happens." He said and opened the door.
"Yeah, *sniff* good idea."
Max kissed the corner of her eyes and then brushed her tears aside with his thumbs.
"There, there. We’re safe. So dry your tears." He said, and she nodded before getting down.
The tanker looked like it had been placed there intentionally but who in their right mind would do something that could destroy the entire road just to get rid of them?
Oh, an ordinary road shouldn’t hinder them from their master plan so sacrificing one road was probably for the best to them.
Max called Oscar, his grandfather’s aide, and told them of the situation and that they might be running late.
Oscar immediately sent a car their way but while the car was still on its way, they decided to leave to step away from their car and the tanker.
Max dragged the supposed driver, who was still unconscious, out of the car and intended to interrogate him once they got back.
He dragged him with him as they walked further and further away from the vehicles.
Then, the driver woke up. He started muttering stuff.
"What’s he saying?" Valerie asked, and Max let him of him, allowing him to lay flat on the ground.
"No... Survive." He could make out those words from what the driver was saying, but it was too vague, so he leaned closer to hear clearly, and he heard it. "No hindrance must survive." He smirked.
And then, they started hearing a ticking sound.
"Where’s that sound coming from?" Max asked.
"Max, there’s something in his clothes." Valerie yelled, and Max tore his shirt away , only to discover the driver was strapped with a ticking time bomb, and it was counting down from ten.
As soon as he saw this, he did not hesitate to pick up the driver and throw him off the cliff into the far distance.
"Get down." He carried Valerie and ran away from the edge of the cliff with her in his arms and then ducked with her.
The driver’s bomb exploded and then a series of explosions followed from the car and then the tanker. It was a big explosion, and if they hadn’t gotten so far away from the vehicles, they might’ve sustained serious injuries, if not death.
"Ugh!" Valerie grunted.
The road was broken, the cliff above the car and the tanker explosion collapsed. Even the spot where they were standing to listen to the driver collapsed as well.
They... They managed to survive with only so little time to understand what was going on.
"That bastard!" Max grunted, his face contorted in fury. "Whoever he is, he made sure to be thorough."
Valerie held on to Max tight. It was frightening. Death was frightening. Who was it? Who was it that dared to mess with them?
"Valerie, are you okay?" Max asked but she still shivered. He held her tight and kissed the top of her head. Veins crawled up his neck as his eyes turned cold with rage. "I’ll make sure to find out who did it. The bastard that dared to mess with us must pay."
"I... I’m okay." Valerie said, releasing her hold on him a bit but she was still quite shaken.
"Don’t pretend. If you’re scared, hold on to me more.". He said but she shook her head.
"That won’t do." She said. "I need to be strong too... Urk." Her eyes widened as she gagged and covered her mouth.
"What is it?" He asked but she couldn’t tell what it was.
Yes, she usually threw up in the past, especially when she had to think of the disgusting people who wanted to reign over her life and dictate for her. But this time... The feeling was different.
She felt nauseous, yes, but the churning in her stomach was different in a way.
Just then, a car pulled up in front of them, and Jeremy, as well as Oscar, rushed out towards them.
"Sir, are you okay?" Jeremy called out as he approached.
"Young master," Oscar called. "What happened?"
"I’ll explain later. But first, I need to take Valerie to the hospital."
