Chapter 395: Disappear (2)

Georgia’s POV

"Hmm..." I tapped my chin with exaggerated seriousness, pretending I was about to give a TED talk instead of seduce my husband. "First of all, I want to confirm if this new mattress actually has the motion-isolation feature the description bragged about."

Nick’s smirk was immediate, slow, wicked, knowing.

Then in one swift motion, he scooped me into his arms. "Great," he murmured, eyes glinting. "Let’s test it. Thoroughly."

Before I could squeal, he tossed me onto the bed, gentle but playful, making my laughter burst out in a high-pitched sound.

"It’s true!" I announced dramatically with my mouth agape and wide eyes, bouncing the tiniest bit. "I barely bounced!"

Nick stepped back, pretending to test the floor for takeoff. "My turn."

"Nick—don’t you da—" I squealed when he pretended to leap with all his strength but landed over me, feather-soft, hands braced on each side of my head.

He grinned. "Confirmed. We should give this a five-star review."

His fingers brushed through my hair, sweeping strands off my face. His gaze dropped to my lips, slow, heavy, hungry, and I instinctively wrapped my legs around his waist, pulling him closer.

His soft laugh vibrated against my chest... and he lowered his head, leaning closer to my lips.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

"Mommy! Daddy! The movers are here!" Katie yelled like she was reporting a national emergency, still pounding on the door like she was the police, declaring our arrest.

Nick froze over me, staring down with the most dramatic you’ve-got-to-be-kidding-me face, then broke into a grin when I snorted out a laugh.

He stood up, ran a hand through his hair in exaggerated frustration, and opened the door.

Katie bounced on her toes. "Can I get my things and arrange my own room? Please? Please? I have an idea where to put my toys and my dollhouse! I don’t want Nanna Wendy to do it for me. I’m a big girl now."

Nora came gasping up the hallway. "Goodness gracious, she runs too fast. Sorry, Sir, Madam, I couldn’t catch her."

Nick chuckled, already surrendering. "It’s fine. Can you help her unpack? Prioritize her room first. Or she’ll terrorize the whole house until she gets what she wants. It will also keep her busy the whole day, so all of us can finish unpacking."

"Yes, sir. I’ll tell the movers to unload her boxes first," Nora replied.

"Thank you, Nora," I added. "Don’t worry, she’ll have her own nanny soon. I’m interviewing applicants on Monday."

Nora smiled. "Honestly? I prefer unpacking toys and dolls over kitchen tools and utensils."

I laughed as she took Katie’s hand and led her downstairs, my daughter excitedly dragging Nora like she was a one-woman parade.

Nick and I leaned against the door frame, watching the two walk away... silence returning.

Nick turned back to me.

Slowly.

Predatory. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

And the look in his eyes said clearly:

We’re not done.

Before either of us could take another breath, Wendy’s voice echoed up the stairs. "Those two boxes go to the master bedroom, and that small one goes to the nursery."

Nick’s jaw ticked. In the next heartbeat, his fingers wrapped around mine, and he tugged me fast, quiet, intentional, away from our bedroom and away from the noise drifting closer.

"Nick—where are we going?" I whispered, half-laughing, half-thrilled.

"To somewhere no one can find us," he murmured, voice low enough to ignite every nerve in my body.

We slipped down the hallway, then he suddenly turned right toward the staircase leading up.

"The attic?" I hissed. "Bad idea. I labeled boxes for that—"

"Not the attic." His steps didn’t slow. "Somewhere... better. Somewhere, we can test every part of this house without witnesses. No one can find us there, at least today."

I opened my mouth to ask what he meant, but he stopped in front of a fluted wall panel, a beautiful, modern feature I hadn’t even noticed before. A painting of the island hung just above it, catching my eye long enough that I almost missed the moment he pressed his thumb against the very edge of the panel.

*Click*

A sliver of the wall popped open.

"Wait—what is—"

Nick pushed the disguised panel, and a hidden doorknob emerged. My jaw fell open, but he grabbed my waist and pulled me inside before I could finish my sentence, shutting the door behind us.

The room was small, soundproof, secret. A sofa bed. Minimal space. Another door off to the side.

Curiosity got the best of me—I opened it. A powder room. Compact but complete.

"What is this...?" I breathed.

Nick leaned against the back of the door, watching my reaction like he’d been waiting for this exact moment. "I copied your old house’s panic room. Wendy told me every detail, so I upgraded it. The fluted panel outside closes and hides the doorknob as soon as the door shuts."

My heart fluttered with shock... and something wickedly warm.

"My gosh, Nick... What else are you hiding in this house?" I asked, stepping closer until I could loop my arms around his neck. "This is... an over-the-top upgrade of our old one."

"It needs to function well in case of another intrusion," he replied, his tone turning deeper, protective, possessive. "But I’ll make sure that never happens again." His hand slid along my waist. "Now... where were we?"

I giggled softly and glanced at the sofa bed. "Testing beds," I teased. "The sofa bed counts as a bed, right? So, we still need to test it."

His chuckle vibrated against my chest. "Oh yes, it counts. And I fully intend to—"

Before he could finish, I placed both hands on his chest and pushed him.

He stumbled back, his legs hitting the edge of the sofa bed so perfectly that he dropped into a seated position with a low grunt of surprise.

Heat shot straight through me.

"I think..." I said slowly, letting my voice drop into a seductive purr, "I want to lead the testing this time."

His eyes darkened—hungry, amused, challenged.

And without breaking eye contact, I hooked my fingers under the hem of my shirt, lifted it over my head in one smooth motion, and tossed it right into his face, making him chuckle.

Nick’s breath hitched. Then a sinful smile curved his lips.

"Then take the lead, baby..." he murmured, "because I’m all yours."
