Chapter 12: Claimed by the bad boy

Kianna’s Pov:

The next morning, the whispers started before I even stepped through the school gates.Everyone had already seen the posts and already had their opinions.

By the time I reached the hallway, the air was thick with murmurs — fragments of my name, Maddox’s, and Mordred’s tangled together like a broken record of gossip.

I walked faster, clutching my books tighter to my chest, trying to breathe past the stares that clung to me.

Then I heard a familiar voice which made me stop in my tracks. "Still pretending you don’t feel it, Kianna?"

It was Maddox, he was leaning lazily against the locker right next to mine, arms crossed, that trademark smirk curving his lips — the one that used to make my wolf’s pulse stutter before I learned to hate it.

My steps faltered, and I turned slowly to face him. His blue-grey eyes gleamed, dangerous and familiar, like the calm before a storm.

"What do you want?" I muttered, my tone flat, though my heart drummed unevenly in my chest.

He tilted his head, lowering his voice until it brushed like a growl against my ear.

"What do I want? Don’t act dumb. You know what I want. You’re mine, kianna. My fated mate. That bond doesn’t vanish just because you’re pretending to play human with your little boyfriends."

I swallowed hard, forcing a shaky laugh before replying to him.

"Fated? You rejected me, remember? You made sure the entire school knew I wasn’t good enough for you."

His smirk wavered, but only for a moment. Then his hand slammed against the locker beside my head, caging me in.

"I didn’t reject you, Kianna. I was angry. But that doesn’t change what’s written in our blood. You belong to me." his husky voice echoed through the halls.

The crowd that had been eavesdropping was now shamelessly started staring, some whispering, others recording whilst waiting for drama to unfold.

And before I could even reply, a voice sliced through the tension, right on time.

"She doesn’t belong to anyone."

The air stilled, all heads turned to the side. It was Mordred, the click of his shoes echoed as he strode into the hall with a dark and unreadable expression.

He stopped just a breath away from us, his eyes cold and dangerous — the kind that made people instinctively step back.

Maddox chuckled bitterly. "Oh, look who it is.The wanna be Mafia boy."

Mordred’s lips curved into a smile that didn’t reach his eyes, he could sense Maddox’s jealousy through his words.

"Call me whatever you want, but remember this.." He replied, then reached for my hand and entwined our fingers deliberately, his gaze sweeping the crowd.

"She’s mine," he added firmly.

Gasps rippled through the hallway. Phones lifted higher making my pulse trip. What is he doing? Why now of all times. He didn’t even wait for us to think this through.

"Mordred..." I started, but he didn’t let go or make me speak.

"Let me make this clear for everyone," he said, his voice low but sharp enough to cut air.

"Kianna is my girlfriend. So unless anyone wants to lose a few teeth, I suggest you stop spreading those pathetic rumors."

The silence that followed was heavy. No one dared to move or question us again. For the first time something in me was relieved.

Even though I thought this was a bad idea at first, somehow I felt protected.

Then my eyes darted on Maddox, his eyes darkened, his jaw tightening as he took a threatening step closer.

"You think this is over just because you said so? She’s still my mate, and no human trick will change that." he whispered, clenching his fits hard to control himself.

"Maybe you should’ve thought about that before throwing her away," Mordred shot back calmly. "You don’t get to claim someone you broke."

The tension was now suffocating, two predators circling the same prey. One my fated mate and the other a threat and mysterious.

My breath hitched, making my blood run cold. Gosh, I wanted to scream, to tell them both to stop, to stop using me as proof of something I didn’t even understand anymore.

But then, from the corner of my eye, movement by the doorway caught my attention.

It was Lysander. He stood there frozen, with a sketchbook in one hand, eyes wide mixed with confusion and disbelief carved into every line of his face.

He looked between Maddox, Mordred, and me — like watching a scene he was never meant to witness.

Then our eyes met.In that instant, every word I could’ve said turned to ash in my throat. He blinked, once, slowly and then turned around and walked away without a word.

My heart twisted painfully as I reached out, whispering, "Lysander, wait..."

But my voice drowned beneath Mordred’s next words:

"Let him go..He doesn’t belong in this."

I tore my hand from his grip, breath shaky, eyes stinging. If only he knew — none of this was something I belonged in either.

I tried to run after him, but he was already gone. God, what did I just do? How I’m I supposed to explain this to him?

Then before I could explode with numerous thoughts, my phone pinged. It was a text from him. It says, "Meet me In front of the art class."

"Ahhhh"I exhaled deeply, atleast it shows he isn’t mad at me. I knew Lysander is not like the others, he’s mature enough to understand me. I guess I was just overreacting.

Before I could waste anymore time, I rushed to the Art class. And exactly as he said, he was standing at the entrance of the classroom with his arms folded.

The moment his eyes met mine, he smiled. Then walked towards me. " Are you okay?" He whispered, tugging a strand of hair from my face behind my ear.

"Ye-yes." I stammered. His smile never waivered. " That’s a relief, should we grab dinner together tonight?" he uttered, his hands still on my face, whilst his thumb brushed my cheeks simultaneously.

I took a step back a bit, then gave him a shy smirk before replying,

"Em, sure..but I think Maybe we should at least talk about what happened this ...."

" It’s not necessary Kianna, as long as you’re okay. I’m good.." he interrupted, then stepped closer, grabbing my wrist..then whispered.

" I’m sure you have your reasons."

Is this his way of telling me he doesn’t like my decision? Or he’s really okay with it. He looks fine, but his expression tells otherwise. It was as if he was pretending to be okay for my sake.

And cowardly,I couldn’t even afford to push further. If he doesn’t want to talk about it, so be it.

"Alright then see you after school." I uttered, then freed myself from him.

He just nodded and entered his class. And before I could leave my phone pinged again.

This time around it was from Maddox. It says, " I’m sorry for what happened today. Can we meet after school at my place? I have something urgent to tell you about your step parents."

My step parents? Is this his trick to lure me back to his side? Definitely is, and I’m done falling for those tricks.

And before I could respond, I received another text from my step sister Annie.

"Meet us at Maddox’s place, it’s about Mom and Dad. We have something urgent to tell you."

Huh? What’s going on? Why now? Gosh, I can’t even be at peace for once. Whatever this is, it’s definitely Maddox’s idea and I can’t do anything but to go.
