Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off-Chapter 382: An Unexpected Visitor
When Lan Yue finally returned to the cave, the inside was quiet and warm.
The fire burned softly, and the three cubs were already lying together on the blanket.
Su Qinglan was sitting beside them. She was carefully wrapping each cub with a small piece of soft cloth, making sure they were warm and comfortable.
Her movements were gentle and slow.
But her face...There was no expression at all.
Lan Yue paused at the entrance and watched her for a moment. Then she sighed quietly.
It’s really impossible for Sister Qinglan to accept mates here and there...
She suddenly remembered her brother in law...Xuan Long. Whom she was quite afraid of. The others were almost polite, but this brother in law did not give others even a glance.
Her body shivered slightly.
That cold, dangerous aura... the terrifying pressure he carried with him. Just thinking about him made her scalp tingle.
If Manis ever stood in front of him, he would probably be scared out of his wits. She was almost sure brother Xuan Long would definitely not tolerate anyone beside her sister.
Lan Yue shook her head.
Poor Manis. He really picked the wrong female to chase.
Inside the cave, Su Qinglan finished wrapping the last cub. She gently patted its back, making sure it was sleeping comfortably.
Then she finally looked up.
Her eyes landed on the bowl of meat in Lan Yue’s hands.
Her stomach immediately let out a low growl.
Su Qinglan blinked in embarrassment. Only then did she realize how hungry she was.
She looked at the bowl more carefully.
The meat inside was fresh... but completely uncooked. She tilted her head slightly.
Lan Yue noticed her confusion and quickly explained.
"Sister Qinglan, I asked them for fresh meat," she said. "It’s meat from land beasts. I thought you would like that more."
She wrinkled her nose slightly.
"You probably wouldn’t be used to eating fish all the time. And you definitely wouldn’t like their cooking."
Just thinking about it made her expression twist.
Lan Yue almost gagged.
After eating the food at Su Qinglan’s home, her standards had changed completely. The roasted meat, the warm soup, the seasoned dishes...
Compared to that, the tribe’s usual boiled fish tasted bland and had a strange smell.
It was completely unappetizing.
"I was hoping we could cook our own food," Lan Yue continued. "It will definitely taste a hundred times better than what the tribe makes."
Su Qinglan nodded in agreement.
"That’s a good idea," she said simply.
Honestly, she also didn’t think she could stomach their cooking.
She had already gotten used to proper meals. Eating plain, watery fish every day would be very hard to accept.
Lan Yue smiled in relief.
"Then let’s cook together," she said happily.
Su Qinglan took the bowl from her and stood up.
"Let’s make something warm," she said. "You need good food too, especially now."
Lan Yue touched her belly and smiled softly.
"Alright."
Su Qinglan carried the bowl of fresh meat to the fire and sat down.
She looked at the cave.
Then she looked at the fire.
Then at the meat again. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
After a few seconds, her brows slowly knitted together.
She suddenly realized something.
She had meat. But aside from meat she had nothing at all, not even salt or a pan to cook with.
"How are we supposed to cook this?" she murmured.
Lan Yue tilted her head. "What do you mean?"
Su Qinglan pointed at the meat.
"We don’t even have a pan. Or salt. Or any seasoning. If we just throw it on the fire, it will taste terrible."
Lan Yue looked around the cave.
Only stones, firewood, and blankets. Nothing else.
She scratched her cheek awkwardly. "That’s true..."
Su Qinglan stood up.
"Let’s go outside and check the surroundings," she said. "Maybe we can find some herbs or something we can use."
Lan Yue immediately nodded. "Alright, let’s go."
But just as Su Qinglan was about to step out, she stopped.
She turned around and looked at the three sleeping cubs.
They were curled together under the blankets, breathing softly.
Her expression softened.
"Will they be okay if we leave them here?" she asked quietly.
Lan Yue followed her gaze and smiled.
"Sister, don’t worry," she said. "Nothing will happen to them."
She stepped closer and lowered her voice.
"This place is very safe. Almost all females leave their cubs sleeping like this when they go out for a while."
Su Qinglan looked surprised. "Really?"
Lan Yue nodded.
"No stranger would enter someone else’s cave just to look at their cubs. That’s a big taboo."
She pointed toward the outside.
"Uncle Tang’s cave is the closest to this one. He’s the tribe leader. No one would dare cause trouble near his territory."
Su Qinglan looked at the cubs again. They were sleeping peacefully. After a moment, she finally nodded.
"Alright. Let’s be quick."
The two of them stepped out of the cave.
The air outside was fresh and slightly salty from the nearby sea. The sun was warm, and the ground was covered with patches of green plants.
Su Qinglan looked around carefully.
The island was much greener than she expected. There were small bushes, wild grass, and even a few fruit trees in the distance.
"This place is really abundant," she said softly.
Lan Yue smiled. "Yes. That’s why this tribe settled here."
Su Qinglan crouched down near a patch of plants.
She touched the leaves and smelled them lightly.
"This one smells similar to wild onion," she said.
Lan Yue leaned closer. "Really?"
Su Qinglan nodded. "Yes. It’s not exactly the same, but it should be fine for cooking."
She picked a few stalks.
Then she moved to another patch of small plants with round leaves. She crushed one gently between her fingers and sniffed it.
"A bit spicy... this could work as a simple seasoning."
Lan Yue watched her with admiration.
"Sister, you really know a lot."
Su Qinglan smiled faintly. "I just learned a few things from cooking at home." She did not explain that it was basically her who taught everyone to cook food.
They continued searching around the small field.
Soon, they found a few more useful items...some fragrant leaves, a root that smelled slightly like ginger, and a flat stone that could be used as a cooking surface.
Su Qinglan picked up the flat stone and weighed it in her hands.
"This will work as a pan," she said.
Lan Yue’s eyes lit up. "Really?"
"Yes. We just need to heat it over the fire."
Lan Yue clapped her hands happily.
"That’s great!"
Su Qinglan looked around once more at the green field, the sunlight, and the gentle sea breeze.
This island truly had many resources.
"Let’s go back," she said. "The cubs will wake up soon."
Lan Yue nodded.
The two of them carried the herbs and the flat stone back toward the cave.
They were just outside the cave when Su Qinglan suddenly felt something was wrong inside. There was another presence.
Her expression turned pale, and she rushed toward the cubs.
Lan Yue was stunned. "What happened, Sister Qinglan?"
"Someone is inside with the cubs."
Lan Yue also turned pale.
"Who are you?" Su Qinglan immediately rushed inside to find a figure that was intently watching the kids.
