Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 252: Assistant Collins Overdosed on Dog Food
After much deliberation, Summer Lowell decided to push herself to walk in the garden, hoping to tire herself out even more.
That way, she could have a peaceful sleep tonight, undisturbed.
When Assistant Collins arrived, he saw Summer leaning against the garden bench, looking like she was about to doze off.
He glanced several times and reported to Maxim Sinclair as soon as he entered the study: "Madam is dozing in the garden downstairs, she looks extremely exhausted. Why doesn’t she come up to sleep?"
Maxim Sinclair was unaware of this. He walked to the window and looked down, seeing Summer indeed struggling to keep her eyes open. He shook his head: "Wait for me here, I’ll bring her upstairs to sleep."
By the time he got downstairs, Summer had just woken from her doze, and she was startled to see Maxim standing right beside her.
"What are you doing here?"
"You never said I’m not allowed to stand beside you," Maxim extended his hand towards her, "You look so tired, why not go upstairs to sleep?"
Summer brushed away his hand and let out a long yawn: "If I go up, will you let me sleep? I’m afraid you’ll keep me up again."
Maxim couldn’t help but laugh; he leaned over and picked Summer up by the waist: "You’re already in this state, and I’d still keep you up? Would I even be human then?"
"Honestly, you often act less than human," Summer, feeling too lazy to pretend, nestled into his shoulder, "Walk steadily; if you jostle too much, it’ll ruin my nap."
"So direct." Maxim lowered his head to look at Summer, yawning repeatedly and looking impatient, in his arms, "Sleep, sleep peacefully. I definitely won’t keep you up today."
Summer murmured with her eyes tightly shut: "At this point, your words have no credibility with me."
"That’s quite a severe problem," Maxim gestured with his eyes for the people tidying up the living room to keep quieter, as he carried Summer upstairs with light steps, "I’ll work hard to correct my mistakes and try to earn back my credibility soon."
Summer was truly both tired and drowsy. After Maxim placed her onto the bed, she rolled over with the blanket and fell into a deep slumber.
In the study, Assistant Collins, who had been waiting, heard the door and quickly stood up, noticing the lingering smile on Maxim’s face. He smiled along: "President Sinclair seems in a good mood. Haven’t seen you smile like that in a while."
"Really? My smile is that obvious?" Maxim touched the corner of his mouth, retracting his smile, "She’s only obedient like this; when she wakes and gets her energy back, who knows how she’ll vex me!"
Not wanting to deal with dog food while working late into the night, Assistant Collins laughed and changed the subject: "Just got the word today, Justin Huxley secretly negotiated a project in his name, bypassing the rest of the Huxley Family."
"Is he trying to branch out on his own?" Maxim took the documents and carefully examined them.
"Probably not. Based on our investigation, Justin Huxley seems more inclined to seize power."
Maxim nodded: "Indeed, taking control of the Huxley Family would suit his ambitions. Do you think Old Master Huxley might regret bringing in someone with such big ambitions?"
"Before losing his position, Old Master Huxley would probably be glad that there’s someone to succeed him in the family," Assistant Collins, seeing as Maxim’s mood seemed upbeat, chimed in, "However, Old Master Huxley seems very attached to his power; otherwise, he wouldn’t dare give it up."
"Exactly, that’s why this situation is intriguing," Maxim tossed the documents aside, "Really looking forward to seeing how lively the Huxley Family will become."
Another night passed, and with her energy replenished, Summer woke as dawn broke.
She glanced at Maxim, who was still asleep beside her, and gently slipped out of bed.
Maxim opened his eyes and grabbed Summer: "Where are you going?"
Summer turned to look at him: "Getting up."
"Seems like you rested well?" Maxim propped himself up and pulled Summer back with a gentle tug, "Today is the weekend; I don’t have work. Stay and sleep a bit longer with me."
Summer’s instinct screamed danger was looming, so she swiftly got out of bed, planning to leave.
But her reflexes were no match for Maxim.
In almost the same instant she got out of bed, Maxim had already closed in on her, wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her back onto the bed: "Why are you running? Like a mouse that’s seen a cat."
"I’m not, let go." Summer’s hand gripped his, "Don’t act crazy early in the morning, I’m hungry, need to go eat."
Maxim pinned her beneath him, his lips close to her ear: "Why are you so flustered? What are you really afraid of?"
Summer’s gaze darted wildly; she took advantage of his distractedness and bit into his shoulder.
Maxim remained motionless, allowing Summer to bite his shoulder.
Fortunately, although Summer had grievances, she knew her limits; the bite hurt but didn’t break the skin.
After a while, Summer released her bite.
Maxim looked at his shoulder, damp with saliva, and chuckled: "That little bit of force? Doesn’t even tickle me."
"If I bit too hard, I’d be the one in trouble," Summer flipped her eyes at him, then glared coldly, "Can you let go? You said you’d let me rest properly these days."
"I know, but surely I can hug you, right? No need to be so cautious around me?" Maxim looked at the resistance in her eyes and gently pinched her curled eyelashes, "Looks like you rested well last night; your eyes are bright and full of spirit."
"Not really much," Summer, seeing he was more reasonable today, pushed him away and grabbed the clothes nearby to put on, "I’m going down to eat."
Maxim laughed as well, sitting up and getting out of bed: "Perfect timing. I’ll join you. Weather seems nice today; want to go for a run outside?"
Summer shook her head to decline: "No, no thanks."
Morning.
Feeling boredom and wanting to read, Summer realized she’d left a book in the study.
She was loath to see Maxim, yet she was eager to read the book, struggling internally for a while before deciding to go to the study and disrupt Maxim.
Before heading over, she specifically asked the butler whether Maxim was there.
Coincidentally, the butler mentioned he’d just seen Maxim head to the wine cellar to select some wine. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
But what he didn’t know was Maxim had already returned to the study.
Thus, the information Summer got was that Maxim should be in the wine cellar.
This was a great opportunity for Summer; she wanted to grab the book from the study while Maxim was away, avoiding unnecessary entanglements.
Mistakenly believing Maxim wasn’t in the study, Summer pushed open the door without even knocking.
