Contract Marriage: Let's Make It Real, Mrs. Sterling!-Chapter 329 - 328: Mia the Moneygrubber
Jensen Sterling looked at the girl’s accusatory glance, paused for a moment, and then coughed lightly, somewhat disguising his feelings.
Mia Sutton looked at him with a face full of resentment. She thought, although she was a face fanatic, loved a handsome face, and had almost no resistance, it shouldn’t have led to biting someone’s lip hard enough to break it.
She felt guilty about it for quite a while.
In the afternoon, with nothing else to do, Mia stayed in the room with Jensen. Since there was nothing else to do, Mia picked up a book to read.
She was worried that if she went out in the afternoon, others might notice something unusual about her, so she checked the mirror multiple times until the slight swelling on her face subsided, and then she felt relieved.
It was not for any other reason; mainly because it would be really awkward if her parents saw her.
With the remaining time, Mia went to spend time with Ashley, just chatting away without finding it annoying, and quickly it was evening.
The dining table was filled with dishes, completely without any repeats, packed tightly with food.
Everyone in the house finished what they were doing and sat down.
Mia set the table with bowls and chopsticks, noticed Aunt Song hadn’t come out yet, and ran to the kitchen with quick steps, poking half her head in, laughing, "Aunt Song, come out and eat."
Aunt Song chuckled a few times, "Miss, you all go ahead and eat. I’ll tidy up these things, no need to wait for me."
Aunt Song had been working with the Sutton Family for over ten years. During past New Year’s, she’d help Ashley prepare the meal then head home to celebrate with her family, who lived in the same city. But last year, after her husband passed away and her son couldn’t come home due to work, she no longer returned home for New Year.
Nonetheless, she knew her place. Even though she had worked for the Sutton Family for many years, she couldn’t treat herself as the owner of the house. Usually, Mr. and Mrs. Sutton already treated her well, so she didn’t want to intrude during their family gatherings.
Aunt Song kept her head down tidying things. Mia saw she hadn’t moved and walked in, pulling her arm, "Come on, Aunt Song, after dinner I’ll help you clean up."
At this moment, Ashley came in too, smiling gently, "Come on, it’s not urgent."
"New Year’s is all about the joy, let’s go out and eat together."
Aunt Song felt a bit emotional hearing this, her nose tingled. She forced a cheerful smile, "Madam is right, it’s about the joy, see how muddleheaded I’ve become."
She hadn’t had a lively New Year in a long time.
Then Aunt Song followed them outside.
The reunion dinner was eaten late. Outside, the sky was already dark, but the lights from each household illuminated the night with warmth.
Jensen Sterling glanced at the people around the table, including the invited Aunt Song, and rarely thought New Year’s wasn’t bad.
He even ate quite a bit more.
After the reunion dinner, there wasn’t much to do, but the Sutton Family had a tradition of staying up late, so everyone stayed awake, watching the Spring Festival Gala together.
Although the gala hadn’t had interesting shows in recent years, they watched every year; it was probably a habit, the atmosphere of New Year’s they appreciated more.
Speaking of which, Jensen probably sat down to watch the Spring Festival Gala during New Year’s for the first time, even feeling the festive vibe for the first time.
Mia watched the gala while searching for red packets in WeChat groups.
She was in various groups from her troupe, ones she joined during a talent show, and the God and Demon Technique film crew group.
Normally, messages in these groups weren’t many, but tonight they were like a flood, with creative blessings and auspicious phrases lined up one after another.
Plus, there were red packets, being sent one after another, with modest amounts, generally a two hundred yuan package divided into ten parts, everyone just playing along to grab them.
After all, none of these people were short of money; they were just in it for fun and luck.
Mia opened the God and Demon Technique crew group in WeChat, where many packets had already been sent, grabbing packet after packet until she reached the top.
Members of the God and Demon Technique crew: "..."
"Leading lady: What’s up with Mia Sutton still collecting red packets? She even got the one I sent over ten minutes ago."
"Some actress: Haha, she even got the one I sent half an hour ago."
"How long will she scroll up?"
"First time feeling Mia Sutton is quite the miser, haha."
"Mia Sutton, are you there? Come and say hello."
Mia was still collecting red packets, scrolling up one by one, until she finished collecting. The feeling of joy lit up her pretty eyes.
Especially the sound when receiving a red packet—it was happiness.
After Mia tapped away collecting the packets, she returned to the current chat page, saw their messages, and sent several cute emojis.
Which basically meant thanks to everyone’s generosity, and she sent a heap of auspicious phrases.
She grabbed quite a bit of leftover money, so she sent out some red packets too, tagged with the words, "Happy New Year, everyone."
Immediately, the room was filled with the joy of snatching red packets again, everyone chit-chatting away. Mia occasionally sent a message or two.
Even people in the entertainment industry loved gossip; recently, rumors and scandals had been plentiful and amusing.
Who got into trouble again, who’s connected with whom, who’s romance got exposed? All kinds of entertainment industry gossip discussed enthusiastically.
Since the group had just about twenty people, who generally got along well on set, a bit of joking was harmless.
Mia didn’t particularly care for these things, just quietly listened without making any comments.
Munching on sunflower seeds, reading gossip—it couldn’t be more leisurely.
After a while, Mia suddenly remembered something, reached out to nudge the person next to her, "Mr. Sterling..."
Jensen gently looked down at the young girl, asking, "What’s up?"
Mia extended her hand, placing it in front of him, playfully squinting her eyes as she smiled, "Mr. Sterling, can I have your phone?"
"Hmm?"
Jensen looked at her in confusion, but handed his phone to the young girl anyway.
Mia happily took it, then opened WeChat group, waving it in front of him, "To grab red packets."
She had sent them herself, and hadn’t finished collecting them yet. She wasn’t being unreasonable by collecting for Mr. Sterling too... hehe.
Mia just fixed her eyes on Jensen’s phone screen, her fingers suddenly pausing.
Her eyes were glued to the screen as messages kept refreshing.
Apparently, amid chatter, someone sent a message: "Speaking of, I heard some rumors about the movie star Sterling recently."
The group fell quiet for a while.
