Cosmic Paragon-Chapter 85: In the Office
Chapter 85: Chapter 85: In the Office
Drake was in an almost empty office.
Apart from the table with the holographic computer displaying a few open files, with a man seated behind the screen. There was almost nothing else in the office.
Drake Black? the man behind the table spoke in his rough voice.
Drake immediately recognized who it was and nodded.
You wanted to see me sir? he said in a voice that was neither servile nor overbearing.
The man pushed his chair back and the holographic screen disappeared showing his fierce face.
Commander Seth!
Yes I do. the Commander nodded then he started.
I don’t like wasting time, as that is not part of my skill set, so I will get straight to the point. the commander said slowly. But before that I want to ask you a question.
Drake nodded, Yes sir.
He was also a bit curious as to why this military commander would want to see him, especially since he was no longer on the list of candidates he would be training for the upcoming Grand mage tournament.
Good, then I won’t waste any more words. Tell me Drake, do you hold any resentment towards me for the decision I made when I dismissed you from the list of prospective candidates for the Grand mage tournament earlier. Seth asked. Then he added,
Resentment?
Drake was surprised that Seth was asking him this question. He thought, ’Did this guy call me to give an apology? Last time I checked the military don’t apologize.’
Seth nodded and added, You can rest assured, whatever you say I will not hold against you. So you may speak freely.
Drake shook his head, ’Who the hell would believe that? Well it’s not like I care anyway. This isn’t the military and you are not my coach so you can’t do anything to me.’
Drake said. No, I do not hold any resentment or grudges for what happened earlier. Like I already explained in the class, that it was the best thing you could have done given the situation at the time. So I understand why you did what you did and like I said I don’t really care about the Grand mage tournament so not participating doesn’t mean anything to me. Nor does it take any thing out of me.
The answer was simple and honest. Drake did not try to sugarcoat his words or fake anything as these were his true feelings.
Seth stared at him silently for a few seconds after he gave the response then nodded. Alright, that’s good.
I appreciate that you understand this, and the fact that you are willing to consider the bigger picture gratifies me.
I will not apologize for what I did as even if I did I would be lying and that is something I will not do as it goes against my code.
I have watched you and seen some information about you and your grudge with the other student. And I understand what happened since I was once in a similar situation when I was in the academy myself.
While you said you do not need the Grand mage tournament and do not miss out on anything by not participating in it, I still want to ask you personality. Do you want to participate in this tournament?
There was a difference between whether Drake needed to participate and whether he wanted to participate in the tournament.
Drake was surprised that Commander Seth was empathizing with him. He did not look like one to do such, but then Drake thought about what he said and understood.
’Seth must have been in a similar position when he was in the academy and he knew how it felt to lose your shot at something good just because of someone else’s stupidity.’ Drake speculated.
To Seth, he simply shrugged and said honestly, I would be lying if I said I don’t hold any anticipation for the event.
Seth stared at him for few seconds then smiled and nodded. Alright, I will give you a chance. It won’t be an easy one though.
Seth remembered himself from all those years ago back when he was in the academy.
At that time he had been in not just a similar position, but exactly the same position as Drake was, the difference was that he had almost no friends back then. At that time nobody had given him any help despite the injustice he had faced.
Now that he looked at Drake, he saw himself from back then. That same proud, wild and unrestrained brat. He thought of how he had never received the help he so desperately wanted at that time, he wanted to give that help to the young him if he could.
...
Drake left Sky tower thinking about what Seth had told him. He decided it wouldn’t be such a bad idea. So he made up his mind to try. With that done, he went to a cafeteria to get something to eat. But while he was still busy eating he sensed someone walk up behind him.
Pat!
A hand suddenly slapped onto his shoulder, causing the table to shake from the action. And his food spilled on the table.
Drake scowled as he slowly lifted his head up. The owner of the hand belonged to a male that looked around 20 years old. Beside him were two youths, with faces full of arrogance. One was a male, and one was a female, and both wore luxurious clothing. It was obvious from first glance that they were from wealthy families.
Looking at the three nicely dressed students with a flat expression, he spoke with an annoyed expression,
Is there a problem?
The 20 year old Young mans face had an ominous glint as he stared at Drake. Speaking arrogantly, the guy said, Hey, brat. This table here belongs to us, you should sit somewhere else.
He could see clearly that Drake’s Magic power fluctuations were quite weak indicating that he as just a 2 star mage, so he didn’t even bother looking Drake in the eyes when he spoke.
Hearing what the guy said, Drake looked at him with disdain. He understood that this guy was just another arrogant punk with a typical case of young master syndrome trying to act like some bigwig when he wasn’t. He was just a poser.
Drake turned away from him and said, If you want to eat, then sit down and eat. This table is for the entire school to enjoy; also, the table doesnt have your name written on it. Since when did this table become yours?
After hearing this, the young mans face looked quite angry. Having already lost his patience, he shouted, Are you going to move or not?
By this time, the spectacle at Drakes table had already attracted the attention of everyone else around. However, while there were many people watching, no one tried to step in to say something.
A smirk appeared on Drakes face. These type of occurrences happened many times back in the Black clan, but he would always take it and endure. However, now that he was up against outsiders he would definitely give them a proper lesson in table manners.
Drake gave the young man a quick once over with the ’Eye of Order’, and the results left him pleasantly surprised.
Name: ...
Cultivation level: 3 star mage
Battle Power: 23,800
Drake’s eyes instantly lit up. Who would have expected that this guy was actually a 3 Star mage?
Drake gave an evil grin. It seems like this guy only just advanced to 3 star level not too long ago. So he was a very weak 3 star mage. Such a large slab of meat had fallen right into his lap, and just when he had been wondering where to get opponents to help him quickly raise his cultivation and control over his constellations too.
Now that these guys were giving him that chance, he was happy to accept their tribute.
Of course Ill let you, just wait for me to finish my food first. Drake began to dig into his food with renewed gusto.
’After all, I can’t work on an empty stomach now can I?’ thought Drake.
Because he stuffed his face full of food, Drakes voice was slightly muffled. However, to these three people, Drakes meaning was loud and clear.
Big Brother, it looks your power and reputation isn’t worth anything in this school; you cant even claim a table. The girl behind the Young man lightly laughed.
Hearing these words, the look of awkwardness on the face of the 20 years old or so young man disappeared, leaving only a look of anger. Staring viciously at Drake, he shouted, Kid, don’t blame me for being impolite since you don’t know how to appreciate kindness. The next second the young man threw a punch at Drake.
If it were just an ordinary punch then Drake wouldn’t be surprised since it was only normal for bully’s to be aggressive. The thing that caught Drake by surprise however was that this guys fist was literally on fire.
He wasn’t just throwing a punch; he was using a magic spell in the first attack.
As a 3 star mage, it was absolutely overkill to use spells when up against a 2 star mage. But this guy was using a sledge hammer to kill an ant.
Drakes eyebrows creased together and his magic power began to mobilize, but before he could do anything, another voice cried out, Clyde, you are one of the upperclassmen of Alpha Academy, to think you have the nerve to bully one of the freshmen!
Clyde’s fist immediately came to a halt and the flame enveloping it dispersed.
The one who had spoken was another person about the same age as Clyde. He also wore the same academy uniform, and he walked towards them.
It was only now that Drake noticed the difference in the uniforms they were wearing and his own. There was a silver circle over the left chest of their uniform while his was simply a bronze colored circle.
This indicated their identity. Elite Class Students.
Seeing this youth, Clyde face slightly changed. His eyes showed a hint of fear, as he said, Benji, you should not meddle in my affairs.
At this point, Drake knew the names of both people. The one from earlier was called Clyde, and the one that had just arrived was called Benji.
The youth called Benji chuckled and said, Clyde, it is true that your affairs are not for me to meddle in. But since I am an upperclassman, I cannot ignore the troubles of a junior.
