Damned Healer-Chapter 720: Dare to Resist?
The person in charge of the test made a simple attack to knock Darian away, believing that would be enough. Then he quickly rushed over to support Limdiss. He shuddered intensely the moment his palms touched her back.
Limdiss's breathing was incredibly erratic and weakening at an alarming speed. Her body was limp and slack, as if all her bones were broken. Her eyes were unfocused, and blood was pouring from her mouth in profusion, accompanied by a faint, desperate, unbearable groan. Her entire body kept twitching like she was about to die.
Obviously, 90% of it was collateral damage from the suicide pill she had taken. The rest was caused when Darian struck her, since it was inevitable he had to use a bit of force to heal her quickly. She was in terrible condition even after only using the pill for mere seconds, but thanks to Darian's treatment, if she received proper care, she wouldn't die.
Baynod hurried over to Limdiss's side. He had been a bit far from everything and wore a shocked expression, as if he hadn't had time to react and stop his niece from attacking Darian.
Silently, however, he was shocked for another reason. Darian actually didn't die, and since it had been a sneak attack from behind, in theory, this was a "justified" action on his part, and no one could blame him.
The person in charge of the test went blank and felt a chill run down his spine. He had never imagined Limdiss would end up in such a state, injured to the brink of death.
As the one responsible for everything… if the blame fell on him… just thinking about it made the figure tremble in fear. But it was too late for regrets now. He abruptly turned and vented all his anger:
"Darian! How dare you attack with such cruelty!!"
At the same time—
"What happened?! Why are you all gathered here in a circle?!"
At that moment, someone with an infinite aura that made the entire environment boil descended into the hall from the sky. Everyone looked up; judging by his robes, they were certain he was another Supervisor of the Palaces. He was a tall man with eyes sharp as blades.
His arrival instantly froze the chaotic scene.
That figure looked around and saw Limdiss in Baynod's arms, covered in blood and hanging by a thread. His expression changed instantly as he moved forward like a red shadow. When his palm touched Limdiss, his previously calm aura turned chaotic, releasing insane fury.
"Who… who did this?"
Unlike his aura, this Supervisor of the Palaces spoke in an extremely calm voice, but even the weakest cultivator could feel the icy killing intent within it.
Many people slowly turned their gazes toward Darian. The praise and admiration they had shown him earlier, which had stirred huge envy in their hearts, now turned into nothing but pity.
They wholeheartedly believed that this time, Darian would definitely die, even though Limdiss had been the one to ambush him first. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Because her uncle's status would influence the facts. The reality of the world was always cruel to the weak.
Darian, on the other hand, was absolutely calm.
Only an idiot wouldn't see Baynod's plan. He made his niece attack while simultaneously sending a call for another Supervisor of the Palaces; that way, he would have support to justify Darian's death. But now everything had changed, and they would quickly twist the story to frame him.
Darian had no powerful backing here. They would never even investigate to discover that Limdiss had swallowed a suicide pill. Much less admit he was right; they would just make something up.
In the cultivation world, the only supreme law was the law of the strongest. Facts didn't matter much.
"In… in response to the Supervisor of the Palaces," the person in charge of the test gritted his teeth. After speaking the first sentence, his heart tightened as he stood and pointed directly at Darian. "This brat named Darian! He deliberately gravely injured Lady Limdiss and left her in this state. This disciple… this disciple failed to stop him in time and never imagined Darian would be so brutal. This disciple failed to protect her… the fault is mine… please punish me severely."
That figure turned to the Supervisor of the Palaces, Naposell. She was the one overseeing everything this time.
Her gaze was cold and bloodthirsty. "He is partly correct. This Darian was brought here by Palace Master Chrysos, pretending to be a lamb to devour the wolf. When he fought earlier, I sensed something different hidden… now I'm certain, he's using a technique commonly used by cultivators of the Evil Path to conceal his true cultivation."
"Everything was a sinister scheme. He clearly had malicious intentions, forcing us to confirm his strength after passing the test. In the end, he abused the innocence of a talented young girl like Limdiss, forcing her to act rashly. Then… he took the chance to deliver a sinister blow. She was like a sun lighting the night sky, and this is likely a plot to harm the sect. In fact, if the test overseer hadn't acted quickly, she would already be dead."
"You… you're lying!" Pyreus stepped in front of Darian and tried to explain. "She was the one who ambushed and tried to stab Darian in the back. Everyone here saw everything! He passed the test with his own strength and never provoked anyone!"
"Silence!!"
The Supervisor of the Palaces shouted harshly, startling Pyreus and shutting him up.
Supervisor of the Palaces, Naposell, spoke coldly. "Do you think we're all idiots to say something so ridiculous? I only tried to smooth things over earlier so I could investigate calmly later and catch you. But now, that's no longer necessary. As a cultivator who was supposedly in the first realm, how could he leave someone like Limdiss in such a state after being attacked from behind? This clearly comes from a cultivator of the Evil Path."
Everyone in the hall swallowed hard. They had watched the fight and knew Darian's power. If he were really using one of those evil techniques, there would have been a clear fluctuation; it was impossible to conceal it perfectly. But…
Anyone who hadn't seen that fight would really believe someone with cultivation as low as his was actually that strong? They also would never have the courage to tell the truth, or their lives would be at risk.
"Supervisor of the Palaces," suddenly, a voice rang out from among the approved youths. Emina couldn't stand just watching and stepped forward, saying, "It wasn't that simple…"
"Enough!!" Supervisor of the Palaces Naposell roared.
With her roar, a red aura spread throughout the entire hall. Emina's face turned pale, along with all the young cultivators. No one dared breathe under the violent fury emanating from her.
"Test overseer! Capture Darian immediately!"
Even furious, given her position, Supervisor of the Palaces Naposell would not waste time attacking personally. After speaking, she shot a glance at Pyreus. "Let's see who dares to stop this."
He swallowed hard. He didn't care about being implicated along with Darian, but all the power in his body was instantly stagnated by the force Naposell unleashed in the hall.
Even Darian, in theory, shouldn't have been able to move.
"Yes!" The person in charge of the test also wanted to vent his anger. Upon hearing the order, he immediately responded, placing Limdiss on the ground and charging straight at Darian, reaching to grab his throat with both hands.
Pyreus struggled desperately to break free, and a line of blood slid from his lips, but it was impossible. Then suddenly, a hand grabbed his shoulder and shoved him away.
"!"
Supervisor of the Palaces Naposell's eyes widened when she saw Darian move, throwing Pyreus backward.
The test overseer quickly arrived in front of him, radiating fury and killing intent.
He was at the ninth level of the Celestial Origin Realm, considered one of the most talented of his generation. Both his strength and his status in the entire Sect placed him among the upper echelons. On top of that, he had the backing of two Supervisors; if it were anyone else, they would already be so terrified their legs would give out.
However, there wasn't a single trace of fear in Darian's eyes, only a powerful and terrifying atmosphere.
Darian's eyes locked onto the man, who stared back like a starving eagle.
"Dare to resist? You don't know your place!"
Facing that gaze, the test overseer sneered and attacked. The aura around him, driven by his power, transformed into an extremely dense storm that wrapped around Darian's entire body.
A faint smirk appeared on Darian's lips.
*Wooooosh!*
Suddenly, a wave of multicolored light erupted throughout the entire hall.
It was as if a volcano had exploded from within Darian's body. All of the Supervisor's power covering the hall suddenly evaporated, as if blown away by an infinitely stronger will.
People staggered back several steps, pale-faced. It was as if a Deity had opened its eyes and finally released its will into the world.
Darian moved his hand, and a scarlet dagger appeared.
**RUMBLE!**
With a casual motion, the dagger clashed against his opponent. An explosive sound echoed along with a small earthquake. The entire hall trembled, and the ground around the two of them cracked.
The expressions of the two Supervisors of the Palaces and the Palace Master changed abruptly, overtaken by horror.
WHAT THE HELL DID THEY JUST SEE?!
