Days of Dungeon: From Simple Quest to Strange Adventure-Chapter 132: From Arrival To Departure - Part 4
"That Dungeon Core is my souvenir for Ms. Marionette... So don't you dare take it, you burnt hag!"
Fear overwhelmed everyone else as the threatening, dangerous aura engulfed the entire throne chamber, and the flaring light of the Beast Lord's vermilion wings illuminated every corner of the hall.
"I dare you to say that again, cursed eyes," Cyra said, her voice deep and cold—completely contrasting the disintegrating heat radiating from her as she hovered mid-air above the now crumbling throne.
Her words weren't intended as a command nor as a threat but, to be exact, a challenge. And Lynn was more than inclined to accept it.
Arezu, Kurea, Liz, and Beatrix quickly covered Lynn's lips right after she spoke, their hands stacked on top of each other. However, Lynn was already one step ahead.
A simple application of the wind-based mystic spell Gust—that was all it took for Lynn to control the flow of mana in the air and gather the lingering vibration of her voice still echoing within the hall. Not the entire phrase, but just a few words:
...burnt hag...
—BOOMMM!—
At that instant, a halo of vermilion light expanded with the Beast Lord at its center, causing a powerful explosion as it crashed through the walls, blasting the windows and doors apart.
The leaders of the beastkin clans were able to withstand the impact of the light explosion along with the vermilion flames now spreading through the hall, burning wooden doors to ashes, melting glass shards, and even disintegrating the surface of stone floors and brick walls.
As for Lynn and Arezu's group, Brandon protected all of them. He quickly stored the broken piece of the Dungeon Core into the enchantment storage of his golden armor and released a large silver shield before activating his combat skill Fortress, unleashing a defensive aura that absorbed and dispersed the explosion of light and flame.
"Step aside, Lord Brandon," Cyra warned as she gathered her mana and divine power to unleash her next attack.
"This fight is only between me and that brat."
"She's just a kid, Lady Cyra," Brandon said as he let go of his shield, which was already crumbling to pieces—not because of his divine gift, Burnout, but from the disintegrating force of Cyra's divine power.
"She didn't mean to insult you..." he continued, trying to defend Lynn—only for Lynn to cast her mystic spell again.
...burnt hag...
—"Just shut up already!"—
—BOOMMM!—
Along with everyone else's panicked complaints, another explosion erupted as a pillar of vermilion light formed around Cyra, rising up and blasting through the ceiling, expanding rapidly to disintegrate everything it engulfed.
"Stop this, Lady Cyra! You're going to destroy the entire throne chamber!" the leader of the bird-kin clan called out, trying to reason with the Beast Lord.
Cyra seemed to heed the old bird-kin's plea as the pillar of light began to subside. But then...
"There's no need for you to punish that girl with your divine light. We on the council will handle her punish—"Bam!
A large block of ice struck the bird-kin leader straight in the face, knocking him out instantly. And the one who cast the mystic spell and launched the attack was none other than...
—'Lynn!"—
"You insolent brat!"
As the war between the Eileen Kingdom and the Beastkin Nation was about to ignite...
—Bong!...Bong!...Bong!—
An ominous chime echoed throughout the town of the Beastkin Nation.
Cyra stopped her rampage, dispersing the pillar of light as an anxious expression formed on her face. She then flew through the hole in the roof, but not before glaring at Lynn.
The leaders of the beastkin clans hurried after her, rushing outside through the blasted door without bothering to help the unconscious bird-kin elder or issue any command to arrest Lynn.
"What's happening?" Arezu asked, the only one clueless about the dire situation.
With Liz, Kurea, and Beatrix removing their hands from Lynn's lips—and Arezu distracted by the commotion—Lynn managed to pull away Arezu's hand that still covering her lips and finally speak clearly.
"The town is being attacked, Mr. Ignorant."
---
"Well, I'm sorry for being ignorant," Arezu grumbled, wearing a dumbfounded look as he ran to keep pace with Lynn.
"You should be!" Lynn exclaimed in disbelief, fully convinced she deserved the apology—that he should have realized and said sorry long ago.
"Do you know how hard it was for me to keep looking after you?"
"I was being sarcastic, though."
"Would you two stop flirting for a second?!" Liz lashed out, speaking everyone's thoughts—but mostly her own annoyance after growing tired of Lynn and Arezu's mock flirting, thanks to Hannah.
"At least realize how dangerous the situation is!"
"We do, Ms. GL—"
"You fu— twa—!"
With Brandon stepping in to stop Lynn and Liz's squabbling—carrying Liz over his shoulder to restrain her—the group continued running toward the town, following the beastkin clan leaders, with the non-combatant leaders of the Merchants Guild, the Church, and the Magic Academy lagging behind.
Even though the town was still a few kilometers ahead, they could already see the reason for the ominous ringing of the bell: the swarm of monsters attacking the town, flying across the sky.
"Wyverns..." Lynn muttered.
Like other towns and villages, the towering walls of the Beastkin Nation could only protect them from ground-based monsters, leaving them vulnerable to airborne attacks. There were enchanted items to counter aerial monsters, but they were only half-measures.
Regardless of such a fault in humanity's defenses, a swarm of airborne monsters attacking a town rarely happens unless there is a large inhabited land near the town for the monsters to build a nest, or a dungeon capable of causing a stampede—but none of those exist near the Beastkin Nation
"Just where are all these wyverns coming from?!"
"The source is the least of our problems, Lynn," Arezu said, interrupting her complaints and drawing everyone's attention.
Seeing Arezu's expression shift from his usual laid-back demeanor to his calm, composed combat state, Lynn, Brandon, Liz, Kurea, and Beatrix all realized they were facing something far more dangerous than the wyvern swarm.
"My, my... How about telling us what your ignorant eyes see, Mr. Arezu?"
"Right above those dark clouds... Lady Cyra is fighting a Fire Dragon."
