Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 242
Chapter 242: Chapter 242
Aaron didn’t wait like the idiots in stories who would wait to see what would happen before responding. Since he saw what was happening and what could happen, he immediately contacted the vice-headmistress, Lyanna.
Lyanna was surprised by the call from Aaron. Though she had given her number more than half a year ago, he never contacted her.
She understood why he never contacted her. He is a student in the academy, and she is the vice-headmistress of the academy. Unless it has something to do with life and death or something related to academically, like studies, there was supposed to be no contact between the staff and students, unless they were related or knew beforehand through third parties, like family friends.
There was no such relationship between Aaron and Lyanna. So, he didn’t contact him and neither did she.
It was why she was surprised by the sudden contact.
She heard about the attack on Duskmist city, but that was two days ago, and Aaron was not among the injured, killed or missing. So, that means he was in no danger at the moment, which made her wonder why he was calling now.
She nonetheless lifted the call to know the reason.
Aaron told her everything that happened, at least the doctored version of the fight with the man and what happened with the City Guard’s council. He didn’t forget to inform about Noah, and his behaviour since the start.
Aaron only tolerated his behaviour at the beginning as he was not interested in turning the jealously filled event into a full conflict event.
Even though Aaron didn’t do anything to increase the conflict, Noah did everything opposite. He always gave Aaron a hard time in the few days that they had been here.
Even after the battle, Noah took up with the City Guard’s Council to label Aaron as a deserter and punish him. Many on the council agreed because they knew what benefits Aaron would get by being a Hero.
If he were a local, then the city would have enjoyed the benefits as well, but he was not. So, they wanted to grab the benefits from his hands, which was the last straw for Aaron.
He couldn’t stay there anymore longer, while hearing those words from people who are either jealous of his talent or greedy for the benefits that they could snatch away from him.
Aaron told Lyanna everything, from the time of arrival at the city to his storming out of the City Guard HQ.
Lyanna was fuming when she heard about the incident.
The academy has sent its students to such a place, though they have no obligations to do so. The fourth-year students were already at the frontlines. According to the rules of the alliance, the academy sending students from lower years is not compulsory.
It was a voluntary decision from Dusk Academy. Of course, they are not the only ones that decided to send students, but most kept their students within a travel distance of one day or at max of two days. Only the top academies sent students beyond that limit.
Now, instead of being thankful, they even tried to snatch what belonged to one of their students, and the one who caused the situation was one of their own students.
How can she be calm after hearing this? She wanted to appear before the city and wanted to smite it down, but she quickly controlled her anger. It would bring a bad reputation for the academy if she did things like that.
The culprits were just a few who held some power in the city. Not everyone has a hand in this scheme. So, she can’t act as she likes.
So she thought for a while and understood that Aaron was not calling to take revenge on him. If he wanted, she was sure that he could eliminate those council members.
She chuckled inside. Aaron might have believed that there was no one who suspected that he was powerful, at least no more than what he was showing, but she had a feeling that he was hiding, especially with the divination that she got about him, before admitting him to the academy.
She knew that Aaron was powerful enough to handle most of the power from the city. She was not needed for that.
He called her so that he could leave the city without any issues.
With what happened, there is no way there would be trust between them. Aaron would not work hard enough, or the city could dump unnecessary work on him to subdue him. Neither is good for someone of his potential.
Lyanna promised Aaron that she would take care of things, and there was no reason for him to stay there anymore.
After ending the call, Lyanna called the Duskmist authorities and gave them an earful.
The commander tried to apologise to her. He pushed most of the blame onto the council but accepted the partial blame as he failed to see the situation for what it was among the council members and also with Noah.
Though the academy has sent third-year students to be useful there. How they are distributed depends on the city authorities.
The ones who authorised Noah’s appointment as a captain are among the council who blamed Aaron for not sticking to the orders.
The commander has heard about the Kwinton family. They are very rich and also powerful. So, he understood that those council members had already been bought by the Kwinton family.
This was a fact that was visible, but he paid no attention to that fact. He unconsciously ignored that fact, and now he was facing the consequences.
When the Alliance higher-ups hear about this blunder, he was sure to lose his post, but the bad part was that the people won’t trust him anymore, if they come to know that they tried to blindside the hero who saved the city.
He tried to salvage it with the Vice-Headmistress, but that was already too late.
She only called to inform that the academy would be pulling its students from the city. They have a week to fill those gaps. Also, the fact that Aaron won’t be staying in the city under them for even a moment longer.
There was no negotiation. She called him to inform the academy’s decision, and that was all.
---
Aaron left the city on his own after he got a confirmation call from Lyanna a few minutes later.
Now that he has no reason to stay here, he doesn’t want to stay in a city that looks down on its saviour, and stands with idiots.
"It looks like the Kwinton family is made of idiots. In the future, it’s best to stay clear of them, or I would be dragged into unnecessary things like what happened now", Aaron muttered to himself as he left the city.
His destination was supposed to be the academy, but he was not going there directly. He has another destination in mind. The place where he felt the tugging feeling at night when the mist appeared.
It was still daytime, which means there was no mist, but after observing for days, he had a general direction to go, where he could possibly find whatever was waiting for him.
