Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 256
Chapter 256: Chapter 256
The Last Bastion...
Orders have arrived from the alliance higher-ups to send a team of twenty, and everyone in the team should be Rank-6 or above. No one below that rank was allowed to be a part of the team.
The Alliance didn’t waste time after they made a plan. They immediately sent orders to the three places from which they were going to draw some personnel for the mission.
They were afraid that if they took too long, the Supreme from the Cult might take whatever was present there.
The supreme is said to be the most powerful one in the cult, and for him, the alliance has prepared a plan to catch him if possible. If they can catch him, they can end the cult and this war with them. This would give a lot of breathing room for the alliance.
Once the internal threat was taken care of, external threats like the monsters would be easier to deal with, but the alliance knew that might not be 100% possible. There would always be someone who would think that they are above everyone else.
Thinking would not be a problem, as no one is truly equal to another.
Everyone has their own value. One may be above another person, while below another person. This is life.
The problem arises when they act like they are above them and better than them. Either they rub off wrongly with others, or do something to others which would make the lesser one take the wrong path.
If there were no right path to overcome such things in life, then many tend to choose the wrong path to improve themselves. Many chose these paths to right a wrong, but they would forget the fact that what they were doing was worse than what was done to them.
In their pursuit of power, a lot of atrocities would be committed by them.
Many who should not have gone through such a path join such a path because of the bullies who made their lives look like a burden.
Though there are rules, what happened behind closed doors wouldn’t always be heard by those rules. So, as long as these pricks don’t change their behaviour, the chances of eradicating the tumours of society would be very low.
The bullied would be easily lulled by the promised strength, and they wouldn’t care about the price that others had to pay for their growth. They comfort themselves that no one cared about what happened to them, so there was no reason for them to care about others as well.
At least that’s what they would say to themselves, but slowly and surely, they stop caring about who was harmed by their actions, and become truly evil.
This was like evil creates more evil. Instead of fighting the evil, many chose the easy path, becoming evil themselves, as they couldn’t see a way to survive without accepting such a thing.

Last Bastion Commander’s Office...
"Seriously, they want twenty of our best for this mission? What is the mission even about?" the new colonel cursed out loudly.
This was someone who was appointed after the old one was injured in the battle against the monster horde. Though the old colonel was not dead, he was severely injured, especially when the horde reappeared after the Hunters Guild cleansed the area of monsters.
He did more than what was expected of him, which harmed him greatly. So, the alliance assigned him to the desk.
The old commander was re-assigned, but all his subordinates were new, which was done after the fort was properly reclaimed. Now, the colonel is not the highest ranking, but the general is, who used to look after the fort, before cults started to attack, and he was sent to other posts.
Even though he was brought back to his old station, before taking any decision, the general would call his men to take their input. It may slow down the process, but in the long term, it was for the best. He can’t think of everything.
If there are multiple minds, that would be very helpful, as he can pick the best from the suggestions that come from those minds. Of course, the number should be controlled. If too many are there, it would be quite a hassle to do anything.
As the commander, he has to find a balance while doing anything.
"Calm down, Colonel. The higher-ups must have a reason behind this. If not, they wouldn’t have called twenty members from here. From what I heard, there was a similar move happening in two other places", the general spoke.
"Wait, what?" the colonel was surprised after hearing that.
He only thought the men from his post were being moved. Such a move happened some time ago, and everyone knows what happened next, a monster horde that wiped out everything at the fort. If not for the Hunters Guild, none would have survived the assault.
"Yes, the alliance has sent orders like us to send twenty professionals, all above Rank-6. It means they are gathering at least a total of a minimum of sixty powerful professionals, which means something big was going to happen. Whether that would be good or not, only time would tell", the general spoke, thinking about why the alliance called them to send professionals so abruptly.
He would be staying behind, but that doesn’t mean he can save everyone here if another monster horde like last time appeared again. The chances of that happening are low, but it can’t be ruled out completely.
He himself is a Rank-8, but if a monster tide happens, the creature that would be leading the attack would surely be of Rank-8. No lesser creature would dare to attack when he was present here.
The monsters, for some reason, instinctively avoid the areas where something powerful than them exists. With his presence here, though there are thousands of monsters outside, they didn’t dare to come near the fort.
His absence a few months ago was the main reason why the monsters dared to attack, even if they didn’t have high power in the first place. He was not interested in making such a mistake again, but that doesn’t guarantee that a Rank-8 or Rank-9 creature wouldn’t arrive here.
If such a situation appears, he can’t save anyone from their deaths, as he would be busy trying to save his own life.
"Arrange for twenty professionals, and make sure that they volunteer for this mission. No need to push them for what seems to be a dangerous mission", the general finally gave the order.
"Yes, general", the colonel accepted the order.
There was nothing he could do about this anyway. This was an order from the higher-ups of the alliance. Unless it was an absurd order, he could vent his disagreement about the orders, but couldn’t ignore the orders.
He still has to follow them, whether he likes it or not.
