Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 288
"Anyway, why are you here? I thought once a student joins the academy, it would be only after four years would be free to leave, when they graduate", Thomas asked.
Hearing those words, Aaron stiffened a little, "It is a long story", he began telling them everything that he could, as most would be known to everyone in a few days.
People are not idiots, at least not all of them.
They would be able to piece together based on the activities around the city. It may take a few days to understand, but they would piece everything together.
So, it matters not if he tells them everything now or they will find out later on.
"So the Alliance is letting every awakener take missions to hunt down cultists and their sympathisers, huh? What made them suddenly change to this way?" Thomas asked.
He couldn’t understand why the situation turned out like this, though he had a feeling that something should have happened, something important. Whether that was good or bad, he couldn’t say for sure and the reason why he asked Aaron.
Thomas understood that Aaron might be a student, but he is a genius. So, he could know things that they would have never heard or would never in their lives, and that’s why he asked his son.
"I don’t know what exactly had happened, Dad, but more than a month ago, when I was stationed at the Fort Last Bastion, twenty professionals left the fort. There were rumours that around sixty were dispatched for a mission, but what the mission was or to where, I have no idea", Aaron started to tell what happened.
Thomas suddenly remembered something that happened more than a month ago. There were a lot of unfamiliar professionals who appeared suddenly.
Before that, the Mayor had asked the Aurora restaurant to prepare some food for a lot of people. What the Mayor told the restaurant was that a group less than a hundred, who are around Rank-6 above, would be arriving.
The food was supposed to be their supplies for a short while.
The professionals didn’t stay behind for long. Actually, no one knew how they arrived, as no one in the city knew how they came to the city in the first place.
"Wait a second, Maya, don’t you remember a bunch of professionals that appeared more than a month ago here. We even prepared food supplies for them, per the mayor’s request", Thomas suddenly interjected.
"Oh yes, I forgot about that", Maya started to remember what happened more than a month ago.
Aaron raised his eyebrows when he heard those words. He was not dissatisfied when his father interrupted him. He was rather surprised to hear about the matter that the members who left the fort had arrived at Rock City.
He quickly got an idea of how they arrived without others knowing about their arrival.
"Ah, there is a teleportation circle here in the city. They should have used that", Aaron commented.
Thomas and Maya stopped their thought when they heard what Aaron just said.
"What is a Teleportation Circle?" they asked in unison.
Seeing their confused faces, Aaron remembered that he had no idea about the teleportation himself until recently.
Lyanna told him that it was a recent technology developed by the alliance. It was said that even the Cults have the technology.
When he asked why they were not established everywhere, the answer that he got was that the cost of maintaining a spatial channel was very high. The cost depends on how large the channel is and what type of channel it is.
There is a temporary channel that would be used once or a few times in a fixed time period. After that, it would be gone.
Permanent ones are operated as Active/Passive ones. When they are used, they would be in an active state, which consumes a lot, and when not used, they would be in a passive state, where the burning of resources would be minimal.
Whether one is in an Active or Passive state, the cost depends on how wide and long the channel is.
He knew that the alliance had arranged teleportations in many areas. The important ones got ones with a wide channel and would always be active as long as this war goes on. Rock City has one too, but it was not a wide one and would be in a passive state, unless it was an emergency.
It was why he had to take a train, as asking to use it, even Lyanna, doesn’t have proper authority.
"Oh, I forgot that not many knew about this", Aaron slapped his head and started to tell what teleportation circles are and everything he knew about them.
When he said all that he knew, his parents were surprised and shocked that such technology exists. They didn’t even know about many things like that.
When they were young, the academy they attended was Chef academy, and in such places, there would be no other information other than about cooking food or what parts of a monster are edible and what are not and poisonous.
Even now, they don’t come into direct contact with people who would deal with such things. They stay in the kitchen and wouldn’t meet any patrons.
They are not some Rank-7 or above chefs who can prepare some special foods, which attracts attention from powerful people. So, their not knowing about such existence is normal, especially because teleportation was a recent endeavour and was used solely for military purposes.
"Wow, such technologies exist in this world. We are really like country bumpkins, dear", Maya spoke.
Thomas agreed with that statement.
At that time, sounds came from the kitchen.
Hiss!!
"Huh, what are those sounds?" Aaron asked.
"Oh dear, we forgot food on the stove", his parents ran back to the kitchen, hoping to save the food.
They were preparing food for the night, when they heard the door lock opening and assumed that it was an intruder. At that time, food was the main priority. After seeing that it was Aaron, they forgot about the world and started talking with him, which was more than enough for the food to get burnt.
