Deceiving Her Ears: Ignoring Your Call-Chapter 102: I Got Dumped
"Where are you going?"
Jessica Vance’s back stiffened.
She turned around to look at her husband, sitting on the sofa eating fruit and looking at his phone.
The man raised his head, his tone displeased, "Always running outside! What? Do you have a boy toy out there?"
"No! Absolutely not!" Jessica hurried to defend herself.
The spots on her back and arms throbbed with pain, and she said softly, "Mom said she wants some peach shortbread from The Crisp Aroma Bakery, so I wanted to go buy some."
After listening, the man continued to look at his phone.
Jessica breathed a sigh of relief and headed towards the door.
But just after taking two steps, the man’s voice rang out behind her again, "Join me for a dinner meeting tomorrow night."
Jessica’s body stiffened, her teeth nearly grinding together.
She knew the man was asking her to accompany him for drinks, to entertain his business partners.
Aside from sleeping, there was no difference between her and the nightclub girls.
"Did you hear me?"
Not hearing her response, the man impatiently questioned again.
Jessica’s fingers clenched tightly, she gave a low "Hmm" in reply.
Only then did the man look satisfied, urging her to quickly go buy the shortbread and return.
——
In the private room.
The aroma of tea filled the air.
Ethan Vaughn’s cane rested by his side as he leisurely brewed tea.
Jessica sat opposite him, wearing thick foundation that looked like plaster on her face.
But in fact, it was to cover the bruises and scars on her face.
She had witnessed Ethan’s iron fist and ruthlessness.
But now, there was nowhere else for her to turn.
Ethan was her only lifeline.
"I want money. Fifty million."
When Jessica finished, Ethan’s hand paused as he was pouring tea.
He looked up at Jessica, coldly sneering, his eyes devoid of warmth, "Are you joking with me?"
"I guarantee it will be worth it! Natalie is now Beckett Group’s chairperson. With her support, Isaac will be even more unstoppable."
Ethan’s face darkened.
This was precisely the source of his frustration.
"But I have a way to make them turn against each other."
Upon hearing this, Ethan’s eyes sparkled. He placed a cup of tea in front of her and said calmly, "I hope you don’t disappoint me, don’t make this meeting redundant. My time is precious, and I get very angry at people who waste it."
Jessica replied, "I won’t disappoint you."
Ethan looked at her for a few seconds and made a call.
Twenty minutes later, Jessica’s account received twenty million.
"Tell me, your plan."
"I asked for fifty million!" Jessica frowned.
Ethan responded coldly, "This is a deposit. If your plan really works, I won’t let you down."
Jessica gritted her teeth and pondered for a moment before saying, "Isaac and Natalie’s grandfather, Sebastian Beckett, have an agreement."
Ethan squinted, "What agreement?"
——
Inside the room, a couple was passionately intertwined.
"Honey, I’m tired, can I lie down?"
Nancy Huxley hugged Ethan Vaughn’s neck, playfully pouting.
In the place where Nancy couldn’t see, Ethan’s eyes were fierce.
His leg was inconvenient, so their choices were limited in this regard.
But when facing Nancy, he tenderly replied, "Alright, darling."
Ethan kissed Nancy on the cheek and held her as they lay down.
But soon Nancy felt unsatisfied. Instinctively, she made a request to Ethan, but once she spoke, she realized that Ethan couldn’t fulfill it.
"Honey, I..."
She was a little panicked, looking at Ethan apologetically.
Yet Ethan remained gentle, holding her, "Darling, is this okay?"
Nancy quickly replied it was fine, making an effort to comply.
After they finished.
While cuddling Nancy, Ethan said, "Dorwin’s vacation resort opened. Why not invite your parents, your aunt and uncle, and we spend a couple of days there?"
"Do you have time?" Nancy raised her head, looked delighted, "You’ve been so busy."
"Yes, I’ve neglected you recently, it’s time to make it up to you." Ethan kissed her forehead, "Darling, I remember your aunt and Mrs. Beckett are close friends?"
"Hmm, they’ve been best friends for over ten years."
"Then let’s invite Mrs. Beckett as well."
——
"Ethan is truly filial, taking time out of his busy schedule to accompany us."
"Uncle, Auntie, it’s my duty." Ethan had one hand on his cane, the other holding hands with Nancy.
Nancy carefully adapted to his pace, looking at him with eyes full of love.
Mr. and Mrs. Huxley saw this, but felt a bittersweet sensation.
Every parent hopes their daughter finds a healthy husband, but their daughter happened to fall for Ethan.
Thankfully, besides his leg issues, Ethan was otherwise faultless.
While speaking with Nancy, Ethan caught sight in his peripheral vision of June Huxley and Cynthia Kendall coming from another car.
"Aunt, Auntie Kendall." He went over to greet them.
June responded with a smile, while Cynthia merely nodded, her expression indifferent.
The group rested through the afternoon and, after dinner, prepared to enjoy the hot springs.
In the relaxation area.
Cynthia Kendall was drinking something when Ethan approached.
"Auntie Kendall, may I sit down?"
Cynthia glanced up at him, "Suit yourself."
Ethan sat down, getting straight to the point, "Auntie Kendall, Aunt June will be coming over soon, so I’ll be brief."
"Isaac and Old Mr. Beckett have an agreement, are you aware of this?"
Cynthia’s eyes flickered, her expression cooled slightly.
"Can you help me get hold of the agreement?"
After a long silence.
Cynthia spoke coldly, "What makes you think I’d help you?"
Ethan chuckled, "Natalie is now Beckett Group’s chairperson, getting along splendidly with my brother. This probably isn’t what Auntie Kendall hopes to see, is it?"
——
When Natalie Kendall received a call from Nina Abbott, she was very concerned.
Because Nina seemed very downcast, as if she had suffered a major blow.
She hurried to the bar that Nina mentioned and was shocked upon entering the private room.
The coffee table was crowded with over ten bottles of alcohol.
Fortunately, only one was opened.
Upon seeing Natalie, Nina pouted, "Nat..."
"Nina, what’s wrong? What happened?"
Natalie quickly walked over to Nina, who hugged her tightly.
"Nat, I’ve been dumped."
Natalie was stunned, "Who dumped you?"
"...Your brother."
Nina threw a bombshell.
Natalie grabbed her shoulders, looking at her in disbelief, "You said who? My brother?"
Nina nodded, sniffling as she vented, "I confessed to him, but he blocked me."
"..."
Natalie was shocked and at a loss for words.
After a long while.
She finally found her voice, "You and my brother... when did this happen?"
Nina was a bit embarrassed, "The day... he saved us at the bar, I just, hem hem, fell in love at first sight."
"..."
*
When Isaac called Natalie to ask where she was, she sent him the address.
Half an hour later.
Isaac arrived.
Nina seemed very drunk, holding onto Natalie and crying.
Isaac reached out to pull her away, but she clung tightly.
He frowned, and said to Natalie, "Call your brother and tell him you’re at the bar."
Natalie hugged Nina with one hand while fishing out her phone with the other.
She hesitated, "Will my brother come?"
Isaac settled down on the sofa, long legs crossed, his posture relaxed, languidly said, "If he doesn’t, we’ll just take this drunkard home, but—"
