Chapter 149: Chapter 149: No Longer in Love?

She hesitated for a few seconds.

In the end, Natalie turned around and opened the door.

Outside the door.

As expected, it was Isaac collapsed on the ground.

——

Vanessa rushed over as fast as she could when she got Natalie’s call.

She hadn’t expected the scene she saw.

Her son was curled up on the floor, burning with fever, his whole body hot, his face flushed, eyebrows tightly knitted.

While Natalie stood to one side in her lounge clothes, phone in hand, scrolling through it.

Only when she saw Vanessa did she put away her phone, and said indifferently, "You’re here."

Rage welled up in Vanessa’s chest, her gaze at Natalie barely hiding her rebuke and dissatisfaction.

But Natalie seemed not to notice, "Did you come alone? You probably can’t move him by yourself."

Vanessa retorted, "But you’re here too, aren’t you? Can’t you help me out?"

Natalie didn’t say anything, but her expression clearly showed she didn’t want to.

Vanessa was furious, but this was hardly the moment to argue with Natalie.

She took out her phone and called the driver downstairs, telling him to come up immediately.

The driver came quickly.

But he was barely over 1.7 meters tall, there was no way he could carry Isaac’s 187cm frame.

After trying twice, he just barely managed to get Isaac up.

Isaac leaned heavily on the driver’s shoulder, gasping for air, his forehead covered in sweat.

Vanessa held onto Isaac’s arm from the other side; even the two of them together could only barely keep him standing.

Moving downstairs was out of the question.

At that moment, Natalie said, "I called 911."

Vanessa shot her a cold look, not even a trace of gratitude for this gesture.

"Let Isaac lie down inside for now, is that okay?"

That "is that okay" was dripping with sarcasm.

Natalie definitely didn’t want to.

But given the situation, she had no choice but to agree.

They finally managed to get Isaac onto the sofa.

Vanessa squatted by the sofa, gently touching her son’s face, trying to wake him up.

But Isaac was burning up so badly, he showed no signs of waking at all.

Vanessa really had no idea what was going on with her son.

From Natalie’s utterly detached attitude, he wasn’t worth dragging himself here in this state.

And judging by what she saw when she arrived, Natalie hadn’t even let him inside the apartment at first.

"Madam, I’ll go downstairs. If the ambulance gets here, I’ll take them up," the driver said before quickly leaving.

Natalie thought for a moment, then asked Vanessa, "Would you like something to drink?"

"With Isaac like this, you think I could drink anything?" Vanessa snapped.

Natalie didn’t say anything else.

Vanessa tried to hold back, but in the end she couldn’t.

She got to her feet and turned to face Natalie.

"I don’t get it. Nat, how did you suddenly change into a different person? You used to be so close to Isaac. Back then you were Jason’s fiancée, Isaac was Jason’s nephew. That relationship—you two were practically..."

She paused, swallowing the words "condemned by all."

"Still insisted on being together. What? The feelings are gone just like that? Don’t love him anymore? But even if you don’t love him, aren’t you still not enemies?"

"The way you treat Isaac now, I really don’t understand."

Facing Vanessa’s rebuke, Natalie gave no explanation.

She just stood there, expressionless and quiet, like nothing anyone said or did could affect her.

To Vanessa, it felt like punching cotton—angry, but powerless.

Later, the paramedics arrived with the driver leading the way.

After a brief check of Isaac’s condition, they prepared to lift him onto the stretcher.

But just then, they realized Isaac’s hand was gripping the sofa tightly, refusing to let go.
