Deceiving Her Ears: Ignoring Your Call-Chapter 154: The Patsy
By the time Isaac Vaughn arrived in Lynton County, it was already the next morning.
Not long ago, he had visited this place as well, also at this funeral home, to attend the funeral of Natalie Kendall’s biological mother, Lydia Fletcher.
Now, it was Grandma Rivers.
Someone who was just out grocery shopping the day before had unexpectedly passed away from a fall.
"Brother-in-law!"
When Jordan Rivers saw Isaac, it was as if he had found a savior. He ran over, hugged Isaac’s leg, and cried loudly.
Even after making that phone call, Jordan was still very scared.
Scared that his brother-in-law wouldn’t come.
Thank goodness, his brother-in-law really did come.
Soon, the Rivers family noticed Isaac, and they surrounded him, trying to inquire about Natalie Kendall between their words.
But Isaac’s cold demeanor scared them away.
However, Jordan’s aunt, Lily Rivers, continued to glance over, calculating and eager to approach.
Isaac promptly bent down and carried Jordan away.
Once Jordan was less emotional, Isaac asked him, "When you called me, you kept crying. Now that I’m here, what do you want to say? Go ahead."
Jordan wiped his eyes, pouting, "Brother-in-law, can I go live with my sister?"
Now that Mom and Dad are gone, and Grandma is gone too, Jordan knew there was no one to love and protect him anymore, and he was terribly scared.
Even though his sister didn’t like him, he still wanted to be with her.
Isaac knew Natalie Kendall didn’t like Jordan, and he wouldn’t decide for her to bring Jordan back.
"I heard Aunt and the others talking..." Jordan started crying again. He was still just a child and wiped his eyes before continuing, "They are fighting over me, but I know they don’t really want me..."
"Aunt and the others want to ask my sister for money, they said my sister is a pushover..."
Upon hearing this, a cold glint flashed across Isaac’s eyes.
"Jordan, why did you run over here? You scared Auntie." Lily Rivers appeared at this moment.
She hugged Jordan as if she was very distressed.
"Poor child, don’t be afraid, you have Auntie," she said, then looked at Isaac, "Though times are tough at Auntie’s place. But with Auntie around, you won’t go hungry."
But Jordan forcefully broke free from her grip, clinging to Isaac’s leg, "Brother-in-law." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Lily exclaimed "Oh my" as she stood up, her smile insincere, "Jordan, you may be young, but you’re smart enough to know who is the real deal, right?"
Isaac glanced at Lily, a look so cold and indifferent that it sent a chill down her spine and rendered her speechless.
Isaac took Jordan to a hotel.
The child, having spent the night in fear, was barely holding it together.
As soon as his head hit the pillow, he fell asleep instantly, even snoring softly.
Isaac tucked his little arms under the blanket and adjusted the corners before getting up to leave.
Outside, he smoked two cigarettes.
Isaac took out his phone and dialed Natalie Kendall’s number.
Natalie was in a meeting.
Her phone lit up.
She glanced at the caller ID, expressionless, and flipped the phone over, face down on the table.
The meeting ended.
Natalie returned to her office, remembered something, and picked up her phone to see the missed call from Isaac Vaughn.
She thought for a moment and sent him a message.
Isaac found a temporary babysitter to look after Jordan and headed back to the funeral home.
On the way, his phone beeped.
He took it out to see a message from Natalie Kendall.
He immediately opened the message, only to see a line of words that made his heart sink.
