Deceiving Her Ears: Ignoring Your Call-Chapter 155: See You at the Civil Affairs Bureau Tomorrow Morning
[Monday morning, Civil Affairs Bureau.]
Isaac Vaughn’s face was pale, gripping his phone tightly, taking deep breaths.
The driver thought something was wrong with him, hurriedly asked with concern if he needed to go to the hospital.
"I’m fine. Keep driving." Isaac said, then leaned back against the seat and raised his arm to block his eyes.
The driver glanced at him in the rearview mirror, stopped asking, and kept pressing on the gas.
Funeral home.
Isaac went to register the condolence money, and was just about to leave when Lily Rivers and her husband blocked him.
To be honest, Lily was terrified of him, but for the sake of her future, she had to force herself.
"Um, where’s Jordan?"
Isaac didn’t answer, looking at Lily with cold eyes.
He didn’t think Lily genuinely cared about Jordan, so he just waited for her real intentions.
"You, you took him away, and didn’t even say anything." Lily saw Isaac’s cold, somber face and her voice grew weak.
Her husband thought she was useless, stepped forward and said, "You wanna take that boy Jordan, fine. But you should show some appreciation, you know?"
As he spoke, he rubbed his fingers together indicating a number: "For you all, this is barely a drop in the bucket, right?"
Isaac scoffed, "You trying to sell Jordan?"
Lily and her husband were exposed instantly, their faces flushing red. "You—you’re talking nonsense! We’re not selling, selling Jordan!"
Lily’s husband gritted his teeth, "If you don’t want to take Jordan then send him back right now! Or I’ll report you for child trafficking!"
Isaac knew that if Jordan really fell back into their hands, he’d definitely get abused.
They knew it too, which is why they dared to shamelessly extort.
Isaac pulled a random card from his wallet and tossed it at Lily and her husband’s feet.
The two scrambled to snatch it.
"I’m Jordan’s real aunt! Give it to me!"
"I’m the head of the house! I’m taking it!"
Isaac couldn’t be bothered to watch their pathetic squabble, took long strides and walked away.
——
"Brother-in-law, are we going to find my sister?"
Jordan was led onto the plane hand-in-hand by Isaac, his eyes shining as he asked.
Isaac didn’t plan to lie to him, replied: "No."
When Jordan heard that, his bright eyes dimmed again.
But he didn’t say anything more.
He knew that being taken away by his brother-in-law was already thanks to his sister.
Back in Janton, Isaac temporarily entrusted Jordan to Franklin Finch.
"Am I fucking your nanny now?" Franklin punched Isaac on the shoulder, "You keep dumping people on me! That woman before, you haven’t even sorted her out, now you bring another one!"
As he spoke, he looked at Jordan, "And who’s this kid? Don’t tell me—"
Franklin’s eyes suddenly widened: "Isaac, this your secret love child or what?! Is this why you and Natalie Kendall are getting divorced? Fuck!"
Isaac frowned and looked at him like he was an idiot, "Did your brain rot?"
Franklin: "!!"
——
Monday morning.
Civil Affairs Bureau.
Natalie waited for three whole hours—Isaac never showed up.
She called him; the call went through, but he just didn’t pick up.
Messages, no reply.
She had another meeting in the afternoon, so she had no choice but to go back to Beckett Group.
When the meeting was finally over, she got a call back from Isaac.
"Little Ear, what’s wrong?" Isaac sounded like he had a cigarette in his mouth, but after exhaling he was clear: "Is it something urgent?"
Natalie was so pissed that if he were in front of her right now, she’d smash the phone in his face.
"Why the hell didn’t you show up this morning?"
Isaac stayed silent.
Natalie’s tone was cold: "You just have to make things ugly, don’t you?"
"Got it." A long pause, Isaac finally answered, voice hoarse: "Tomorrow, see you at the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow morning."
