Deceiving Her Ears: Ignoring Your Call-Chapter 179: Natalie, Should We Hug?
Isaac Vaughn’s heart ached for a moment, and the next second, he squeezed onto the sofa.
"You..."
Natalie Kendall was caught off guard by his sudden and shameless behavior. She wanted to push him off, but then remembered his health, and could only stare at him.
"Isaac, what are you doing? Get up."
"No." Isaac shamelessly pulled her in, wrapping her in his arms, "Jordan Rivers snores, I can’t sleep. I’m sleeping here tonight."
"..."
The sofa was spacious enough for one person to sleep comfortably.
But it was cramped for two.
Isaac held Natalie like a hug pillow, resting his chin on top of her head, speaking in a low, hoarse voice, "Honey, let me hold you, okay? I won’t do anything, just want to hold you."
After he finished speaking, he closed his eyes, tightening his arm slightly.
Natalie initially wanted to break free, but her limbs seemed to be truly locked in place by him, unable to move.
On a rainy night like this, it’s warmer for two people to sleep together than alone.
But both had concerns on their minds, holding each other tight, yet their hearts were distant.
Natalie said flatly, "You know nothing will change, right?"
"...Mm." Isaac nuzzled the top of her head, sounding aggrieved, "Can we not talk about it tonight? My heart hurts a little, honey, please have pity on me."
Natalie did not speak again.
——
After the rain, the sky cleared.
The civil affairs bureau.
Isaac was still wearing a hospital gown with a jacket over it, his face slightly pale.
He sat beside Natalie, waiting for their number to be called.
Isaac’s slender fingers held the number slip, frowning suddenly, "I think 14 is unlucky. What do you think?"
"I’ll go change it."
Without giving Natalie a chance to respond, he got up on his own.
The divorce line was even longer than the marriage line.
With relationships broken, the couples waiting for divorce barely glanced at each other, just waiting for their number to be called, eager to complete the paperwork and end the dreadful relationship.
Isaac smoothly exchanged it with a couple for a slightly later number.
Both husband and wife were grateful for being able to conduct their business sooner, thanking Isaac profusely.
Isaac returned to Natalie with number 28 in hand.
"Honey, how about this number?"
Natalie glanced at the number in his hand, speaking flatly, "Is it interesting?"
Isaac smiled lightly, "It’s nothing, just wanted to be married to you a few more minutes."
Natalie withdrew her gaze, looking elsewhere.
Isaac shrugged, fiddling with the number, muttering to himself, "I think it’s pretty good. Doesn’t 8 mean ’prosperity’?"
An hour later.
Their number was called.
Isaac held Natalie’s hand and stood up.
Fifteen minutes later, outside the civil affairs bureau.
Isaac looked at the green booklet in his hand, smiled, then turned to the person beside him, spreading his arms wide, "Natalie Kendall, should we hug?"
Natalie looked at him with indifferent eyes.
Isaac maintained his open-arm gesture, smile unchanged, "Let’s part on good terms."
But Natalie only put away the divorce certificate, then stepped toward her car.
Watching the car drive away in a cloud of dust, Isaac sighed and chuckled self-deprecatingly, "You really are heartless, Natalie Kendall."
"Baby!"
Just then, Vanessa Grant arrived, having received the message to pick him up, "Baby, why are you here? What about you and Nat..."
Isaac interrupted her, "Mom, I’m not feeling well, maybe I’m really not recovered, let’s go back to the hospital."
Hearing him say he was unwell, Vanessa was extremely worried, disregarded everything, and quickly took him back to the hospital.
Back at the hospital, Vanessa immediately went to get a doctor for a check-up.
When she brought the doctor to the ward, she found Isaac hiding entirely under the blanket, which was subtly moving, with faint sobs emanating from beneath the cover.
Vanessa exchanged a stunned glance with the doctor, cautiously stepped forward, lifted the blanket, and was shocked by the scene before her.
Her son was curled up, clenching his fist in his mouth, tears streaming down his face.
