Chapter 191: Chapter 191: Chasing Her Here Was a Moment of Reckless Impulse

Inside and outside the car.

Their eyes met.

Natalie didn’t get out, but rolled the window down halfway. Her voice was cool and clear: "What do you want?"

Isaac let out a heavy breath.

He’d chased her here on impulse.

Today, at this moment, it really wasn’t the right time.

But just thinking about her with that young man, he couldn’t control himself.

You always pay a price for being impulsive.

The impatience on her face, unhidden, was his price.

"I..."

Just as he opened his mouth, Isaac’s phone rang in his pocket.

"President Vaughn, where did you go? President Jennings and Mr. Hale are still waiting for you."

His assistant was urging him.

"Got it, I’m coming right back."

Isaac hung up and looked back at Natalie, only to find that the half-lowered window had, at some point, rolled back up. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Almost without thinking, he reached out to open the car door.

But before his hand could touch the handle, the car suddenly started and sped away.

He was left standing there, forcing a bitter smile.

The second dinner ended past midnight.

The assistant drove Isaac back to his place.

He didn’t stay at the Vaughn Residence, but in his own apartment outside.

Because he had business dinners so often, he was afraid of coming home late and worrying Vanessa Grant.

But he hadn’t expected that Vanessa would come over tonight.

As soon as he opened the door, he heard footsteps.

"Baby!"

Vanessa hurried over. "Why did you drink so much?"

"Why are you here?" Isaac forced himself to pull it together, steadying his mother’s shoulder while bending down to change his shoes with a smile.

But he’d had too much to drink; his shoes went on crooked and he finally managed only with his mother’s help.

"I brought you some soup."

Vanessa’s eyes were red with distress.

Isaac sat down on the sofa, let out a deep breath. "I’ll drink it tomorrow. I can’t manage it tonight."

"It’s cold now. I’ll bring you fresh soup tomorrow." Vanessa sat beside him, tears falling at last.

Isaac glanced over, couldn’t help but laugh: "Hey, why are you crying? You’ll get me in trouble if your husband finds out."

Joking didn’t make Vanessa smile.

"Baby, are you very tired?"

Tired.

So tired.

Reviving the Grant Group was even harder than he’d imagined.

But all he said was, "I’m fine."

Nina Abbott said she wanted to thank Natalie and invited her for a meal.

Natalie still had things to do in the afternoon and was only free at one o’clock. They agreed to meet near the Beckett Group.

"That ABC guy seems pretty happy with you, see?" Nina showed Natalie the chat log. "I made it clear to him. Told him it’s not happening."

"Mm." Natalie didn’t look up, focusing on her food.

Nina wanted to ask about her and Isaac, but the words stopped at her lips and she held them back.

After lunch, Natalie chatted with Nina for a while, then got ready to head back to the office.

Just then, she received an unexpected call.

*

Forty minutes later, Natalie arrived at the place.

Veronica Vincent was still so sharp and plain, waiting by the roadside for her.

Natalie parked, and Veronica got in.

"Have you been waiting long?"

"No." Veronica looked her up and down. "Kendall, you’ve lost weight. Haven’t been eating properly?"

Natalie said she’d been eating fine, started the car. "Is there something you need in Janton?"

"An old friend’s funeral." Veronica looked out the window. "At our age, you never know which day will be your last. Every meeting could be the last one."

As she spoke, Veronica’s phone rang.

"Hello, Isaac? I’m with Kendall right now. You come over."
