Delayed Regrets: He Regretted Only After Her Death-Chapter 174: Pregnancy Preservation
Daisy was feeding congee, and Tiana didn’t want to drink it.
She hadn’t noticed that Aiden, who was taking meticulous care of her at this moment, was still seriously ill.
Just two hours ago, he had collapsed outside the door of this bedroom.
Before feeding Tiana congee, he forced himself to go to her room to check on her condition.
After learning that the doctor had given her medication to maintain the pregnancy, he went back to rest for over an hour.
As soon as he finished his IV, he came to her room again.
Tiana didn’t care about any of this.
She turned her back on Aiden and said nothing more.
Aiden held the spoonful of congee, looking at her cold back.
Her petite and frail figure made him ache with pity.
Her resistant attitude only made him feel more heartache.
He asked, "If Hector Chaucer fed you the congee, would you open your mouth?"
Tiana still had her back to him, "Since you know, why are you asking anyway?"
Aiden took a deep breath.
Clenching the spoon tightly, he restrained his emotions, "If you want to keep this child, you must rest in bed absolutely. I’ll have Mrs. Walsh come feed you. If you don’t want to see me, I’ll leave."
Saying that, he put down the fish congee and stood up with his weakened body.
As he walked out the door, Tiana still had her back to him, not giving him a glance.
Until the voice of Mrs. Walsh came next to her, "Tiana, slowly turn around, I’ll help you drink some congee."
Only then did Tiana turn around.
The first thing she did after turning around was to see if Aiden had walked away.
Not seeing his figure, she suddenly felt the air become much fresher.
Mrs. Walsh brought a pillow to prop her up, patiently feeding her spoonfuls of fish congee.
"Tiana, I heard Mr. Grant say you’ll be able to sit up in two days."
"Just rest well for these two days and take care of the pregnancy."
"Luckily, Mr. Grant is willing to keep this child. You can rest easy and take care now."
Tiana’s palm gently came to her still flat abdomen where the love of her and Hector resided.
If Hector knew she was pregnant, he’d surely be happy.
Thinking of this, a slight smile of comfort appeared on her lips.
But she had no chance to tell Hector this joyful news immediately.
She caressed her still faintly aching stomach and silently said to the baby inside: Baby, we’ll surely return to meet your dad.
Being pregnant now, she almost had a miscarriage. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
In these days, she cannot torment herself more, thinking only of how to leave this prison-like island.
The most important thing now is how to care for the pregnancy properly.
To let this child come into the world safely and healthily.
The matter of leaving the island can only be planned later.
Outside the door, Aiden was peeking through the crack, observing the situation inside.
Seeing Tiana obediently drinking the fish congee fed to her by Mrs. Walsh, his tense forehead finally relaxed.
Uncle Carter advised beside him, "Mr. Grant, you need rest too, better go back to your room,"
In the next moment, Aiden’s tall and towering figure swayed and almost fainted again.
It was Jesse who stepped forward to support him, preventing him from collapsing like two hours ago.
"Mr. Grant, are you alright?" Jesse asked.
Aiden’s chest tightened, his breathing became rapid, and his head felt as heavy as if it were filled with stones.
He was burning up again.
This past week, he had persistently had a fever, without proper rest.
He waved his hand, "I’m fine."
After returning to lie down, he took some fever medicine.
When his head was heavy and dizzy, he gave orders to the people around, "Uncle Carter, the fresh snails from Zephyria have arrived. Daisy likes cheese-baked snails. Watch the kitchen; this dish needs brandy and wine. Daisy doesn’t like snails baked with brandy for too long—twelve minutes is just right. Open the oven as soon as the time is up, not a second more, or the snails will be too tough, and Daisy doesn’t like that."
The last time he personally made this dish for Daisy, the snails stayed in the oven ten seconds too long.
Daisy complained that the snail meat was too chewy, frowning, not taking another bite.
He continued, "Also, before-meal dessert, make Daisy a honey grapefruit cake. The honey grapefruit has to be fresh from Shatian in the homeland to ensure the taste. Oh, remember, no dish should contain peanuts or peanut products, make sure to emphasize this to the kitchen. And her..."
"Mr. Grant, you must rest well first," Uncle Carter interrupted him.
Perhaps, just as his son Carter said, Mr. Grant is a pitiful person too.
He loves Tiana too much.
When he was with Vivian Linden, Uncle Carter knew his heart was not with Vivian.
He never let Vivian spend the night at Serenity Villa.
Uncle Carter didn’t know whether imprisoning Tiana and Daisy on this island was right or wrong.
"Tiana needs rest for her pregnancy, Uncle Carter, please take care of her with Mrs. Walsh," Aiden finished speaking, and his heavy eyelids slowly closed, finally resting amidst his intense fever.
Two days later, Aiden’s condition gradually improved.
Tiana was still on bed rest for her pregnancy.
This day was the weekend, Daisy did not go to the island’s kindergarten.
Daisy sat by Tiana’s side, "Mom, will the baby in your belly kick you yet?"
Tiana smiled, reaching out to pinch her daughter’s little nose, "Not so fast, it’s just a small seed now, just recently planted in mom’s belly."
Daisy recently attended a physiology class.
The teacher said every baby is a seed planted in the mother’s belly by the father.
Under the mother’s nourishing care, it grows strong and finally becomes a little baby, born into the world.
Daisy touched her mother’s flat tummy, "Mom, was this little seed put there by dad?"
"Yes, by dad." Tiana’s smile was sweet and happy.
She thought of Hector’s silent guarding of her since childhood, and her heart felt even sweeter.
Such sweet and happy smiles fell into Aiden’s eyes through the door crack, and turned into a sharp knife, cutting into his chest one cut after another.
The so-called dad of Daisy and Tiana was always Hector, not him.
In the room, Daisy asked again, "Mom, when I was in your belly, I was a little seed, right?"
"Of course, every child in mom’s belly is a little seed." Tiana patiently explained to her daughter.
But the smile on Daisy’s face suddenly froze.
The little head drooped, not at all happy.
"What’s wrong, Daisy?"
Tiana thought, maybe Daisy was a bit sad that there was a new baby in her belly.
The next moment, Daisy said, "Mom, was this little seed in my belly put there by that man, right?"
She hated that man.
Talking about this made Daisy’s eyes full of resistance, "If that man weren’t my dad, how nice it would be. I’d want Mr. Chaucer to be my real dad."
Blood ties cannot be severed.
Daisy hated her biological dad so much.
Every word she spoke, every syllable was heard clearly by Aiden outside the door.
Does she really hate him that much?
```
Though he knew he was an unwanted guest, Aiden Grant still gently knocked on the door. When both mother and daughter looked over, he opened the door and walked in.
Seeing Tiana Linden on the bed, looking much better than yesterday, he felt slightly relieved. "How are you feeling today? Is your stomach still in pain? Any bleeding?"
Tiana did not look at him, staring elsewhere instead, and said, "Much better, thank you."
Her tone was not as cold as it had been in the previous two days, but the politeness was suffused with a sense of distance, marking the boundary between them.
As if purposely drawing a stark dividing line.
Aiden felt helpless in front of her.
He sat at the bedside and asked with genuine concern, "Is there still any bleeding?"
"No." This was what brought the most comfort to Tiana, as the bleeding had stopped after two days of fetal care, and the stomach pain had also ceased.
She was getting better day by day.
Aiden smiled with relief and placed a packet of sanitary napkins he’d brought into the bedside drawer. "It seems they won’t be needed, but hopefully, in the next nine months, they won’t be needed at all."
They were Tiana’s favorite brand, a product from Linden-Grant Pharmaceuticals developed last year.
Aiden sat by the bed and said, "Tiana, last year at a press conference, I mentioned that I developed this brand of sanitary napkins to relieve menstrual pain for girls. I wonder if you saw the news?"
"No," Tiana said firmly.
In truth, she had seen that press conference he was talking about.
He had said that he developed these special sanitary napkins capable of easing menstrual pain for the woman he loved.
Looking at Tiana, it was as though he was making a confession, "Tiana, I have never been in love with Tiana Linden. It was only because you always suffered from menstrual cramps that I developed these pain-relieving sanitary napkins."
But this confession, coming so many years late, finally had a chance to reach her.
Tiana did not want to hear these things. She coldly replied, "Keep your so-called profound love to yourself, and don’t think I’ll be moved. I’ll just find you ridiculous."
Aiden knew these words were far from enough to move her or make her change her mind.
His heart ached, "Tiana, if I were willing to die for you, would you finally look me in the eye?"
"Aiden, how familiar these words sound." Tiana mockingly looked at him. "Back then, when I was begging you, I also asked you if it would take my death for you to believe me."
Recalling how humble and helpless she had been back then, she couldn’t afford to show Aiden a good attitude, "Have you forgotten what you originally said?"
"I’m sorry, Tiana, I..."
"I need to rest now, please leave."
She didn’t want to hear him say another word.
Beside her, Daisy tugged at his strong arm, "You should go, Mama doesn’t like to see you."
Aiden had no choice but to stand up and leave under Daisy’s insistence.
...
In the blink of an eye.
It was already December.
Tiana and Daisy had been on this island for nearly two months.
They still had no way to contact the outside world.
Fortunately, the baby in Tiana’s belly was now completely safe.
At two months pregnant, she began to experience morning sickness.
Lately, she was vomiting everything she ate, almost to the point of vomiting bile.
Aiden had taken to the kitchen himself, preparing various delicious dishes for her.
Sour, sweet, spicy — he tried every kind of flavor, yet she still couldn’t keep anything down.
Seeing that she was even thinner than when she first arrived, Aiden felt a heartache.
Luckily, she was still willing to drink apple juice.
That morning, Aiden brought a glass of freshly squeezed apple juice to Tiana.
She was curled up on the sofa by the window, gazing out at the snowy scenery, "Aiden, I want to get some fresh air. We’ve been on this island for two whole months, and the most you let me do is roam around the castle, but I’ve never been out on the streets even once."
Seeing how thin she had become, perhaps eating and playing outside would pique her interest.
Hence, Aiden happily replied, "Alright, once school finishes and we pick up Daisy, I’ll take you both out to explore the town."
Knowing she was uncomfortable with her morning sickness and sensitive to many smells that made her nauseous, Aiden made special preparations.
He replaced all the car’s perfumes with a lemon scent.
Because the lemon fragrance didn’t make Tiana feel nauseous.
And he left a bunch of her favorite lisianthus inside the car.
Having arranged everything, Aiden then invited Tiana into the car.
This car had been brought along with the massive yacht when they had come to the island from the homeland.
He had it custom-made at the BYD factory at a hefty cost.
Compared to the Hongqi Gregory he once gave to Hector Chaucer, this one was more crash-proof, explosion-proof, bullet-proof, fire-proof, and waterproof.
Additionally, if this sedan fell into the water, it could rapidly convert into a boat and travel over three hundred kilometers.
Even abroad, despite having many bodyguards, it was still crucial to keep these safety measures in place.
So, Aiden had this car transported to the island as well.
He also had three more with the same features made, with two sent to Christopher Grant and Hector Chaucer back home respectively.
As she got in, Tiana caught a clear whiff of the lemon scent.
The nausea in her stomach immediately eased considerably.
However, she wasn’t as fond of the bunch of lisianthus in the car.
She knew it was something Aiden had specifically prepared for her.
Picking up the flowers, she tossed them onto the front passenger seat and glanced at Aiden sitting beside her, "You don’t need to go to such efforts to prepare such things; I won’t like them."
Aiden didn’t say a word.
Whether she liked it or not was her issue.
But continuing to remember all her preferences as always, was his.
He wouldn’t give up just because she disliked it.
And at the driver’s seat, those ceramic dolls placed at the front of the car.
This man had actually retrieved them from the town’s garbage transfer station.
And he had restored them again.
Tiana was too tired to bother smashing them anymore.
If he wanted to keep them, so be it; she wouldn’t care anymore after all.
The gaze that nonchalantly glanced over the ceramic dolls landed in Aiden’s eyes.
Aiden said, "If you still want to break them, I don’t mind fixing them again."
The car slowly drove out from the castle, with Tiana lowering the window to inhale the frigid air of the snowy landscape outside, "I’m not as trivial as you."
She solely focused on admiring the snowy scenery along the way, not speaking to Aiden anymore.
Aiden curled his lips into a bitter smile.
All his insistence and persistence appeared merely trivial in Tiana’s eyes.
That day, when Daisy was led out of the school gate by the security Aiden had arranged, she ran over and hugged her mother’s legs upon seeing her for the first time.
It was the first time her mom had picked her up since they came to this island.
Her little head looked up full of joy, "Mama, how come you picked me up from school today?"
"Mama’s taking you out shopping." As she spoke, Tiana slipped a piece of paper into Daisy’s hand.
Daisy immediately understood — her mom was asking her to find an opportunity to send for help.
At that moment, Aiden walked over, took hold of Daisy’s little hand, and forcibly pried away the piece of paper she was clutching tightly in her palm.
