Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 236: Part Of The Family
Chapter 236: Part Of The Family
Outside of Cassie’s room, Serena stuck to Julian, sobbing into his arms refusing to leave his side. His sister had offered to show her to a room, but she insisted on staying close to Cassie.
"Julian, it’s late and you should get some rest, I’ll handle things here and keep Serena company." Susan insisted.
Serena’s clutch tightened, "Are you leaving me all alone?" She sniffled, "Cassie would be heartbroken once she regains consciousness if she finds out her father left her side."
Susan frowned, "Her fiancé is still in there isn’t he? She’ll understand that my brother’s health is at risk. He’ll be back tomorrow morning-"
"It’s fine Susan, I said I’d wait here until Cassie regained her consciousness. It’s my fault that this mess happened in the first place." He turned to Serena.
"But brother-"
He cut her off with a gentle smile, "I used to do this for Kayden too, it only makes sense I do it for Cassie as well." He reasoned.
To Serena, he said, "You have things the worse, please get some rest." carefully slipping out of her hold he suggested, "Tomorrow, we can talk more about this Ethan and Cassie’s future."
Hearing those words were enough to propel Serena to get off her seat and leave. She bit her cheeks, fighting off the urge to smile. To herself she thought, ’I was just starting to get tired, finally I can relax in a nice bed without having to think too much.’
Susan signaled a maid over and instructed her to show Serena to a room, however Serena made a ’little request’ to the maid.
"Actually, I haven’t eaten a single thing all day, could you have some food sent up to me as well?" She asked, her hand resting on her stomach.
Immediately realizing her blunder, she pouted to Julian, "Only if that’s okay with you, I wouldn’t want to intrude. It’s just...it’s just I know Cassie would feel more at ease if I ate something. Starving myself would only make her worry."
Julian who didn’t seem to care much instructed the maid to prepare whatever dish Serena asked for, hoping to end the issue.
But Serena went on to ask, "Also, I’d like a change of clothes, I didn’t bring any with me and Scott has left already...."
Susan cut her off, "I’ll have it arranged."
Her tone pitiful she thanked them, "I-I appreciate all your kindness." Then left with the maid to her new room.
Susan waited until Serena was out of hearing distance before she spoke up, "Julian, I don’t want to sound rude, but I do not like that woman. Something about her seems so..." she held her tongue, fearing to rub her brother off the wrong way.
After all, he had fallen for this woman and had a child with her.
Julian let out a deep sigh, "She is just worried about her daughter."
"Her daughter? I take it you haven’t accepted her fully as yours yet." His sister pried, taking a seat next to him.
Julian stole a glance at the door, "Have you sent the DNA sample?"
Susan shook her head, "I was meant to do it today, but Cassie’s incident happened and I couldn’t find time to get out of the house."
"Susan, if it’s too much for you to handle, just let me know. You already have so much on your plate with Kayden-" Julian was saying but Susan cut him off with a light slap on the shoulder.
"Don’t talk like that. I know more than anyone how much time you’ve spent worrying over everyone, and burying yourself in guilt that it’s taken a toll on your health. And if I’m being honest, I haven’t been easy on you either. You couldn’t control things back then, I shouldn’t have acted that way." She reached for his hand and gave it a squeeze.
"I’ll help you out brother, in any way that I can."
Julian smiled weakly, "Thank you, for helping me."
She returned his smile, "It’s no trouble, besides, Kayden seems to have his sights set on other things, he’ll be too busy to notice I’m out of the house."
Julian raised a brow, "Busy? With what?"
"He asked for money to invest in a movie production." Susan replied.
"I didn’t know he was interested in the entertainment industry. Forward the details of the production house and the cast. I’ll pour as much money and resources needed to make the movie a success." Julian said, excited over the chance to get in Kayden’s good graces.
"Don’t bother." Susan shot him down, "You know how Kayden is, he’ll get angry at you and might lose his passion. Just...let this be his thing, he’s still recovering from his coma, I don’t want him to fall into depression. Especially with what’s waiting up ahead." She said, referring to the secret Julian had wished wasn’t kept from him.
His heart sunk. He couldn’t hide the truth from Kayden for much longer.
Piercing into his thoughts, Susan asked, "Oh right, what about her ex-husband? The man Serena was with after she divorced you."
Julian frowned, "You mean Luther Crane?"
She nodded, "He must know something. I read up on him and from what I’ve read, he invested a whole lot of time and money into a child that wasn’t his. And for someone convicted for exploitation, I didn’t peg him as the generous type."
Julian pinched his chin, "I knew Luther back in the day, he used to work at a garage, he knew Scott, I believe they were friends. But I always got the feeling he hated me, maybe he was jealous of my relationship. Whatever the case may be I find it hard to believe he’d happily raise my daughter."
"I reckon we have someone find him while the DNA results are being processed. If Cassie turns out not to be your daughter, he might tell us the truth about your daughter...that is if she really exits." His sister suggested.
"I don’t disagree, but I want nothing to do with a criminal. I’d rather ask someone else, someone who isn’t Serena, Scott or Sarah-" he was saying, only for Susan to cut him off.
"What about that woman everyone was talking about during breakfast? What was her name again..." she rolled her tongue around her mouth a few times before recalling it.
"Brooke!" She cried out in recognition.
"She’s part of the family isn’t she? Maybe we can track her down and ask her everything she knows about Luther and Cassie’s father-daughter relationship."
