Demonic Dragon: Harem System-Chapter 509: Family Problems
Chapter 509: Family Problems
Monica frowned, absorbing those words. “The brothers… Liam and Noah?”
Rogue nodded slowly. “Yes. It started with a dispute over territory in the Al-Mirhaz Desert. But… it’s not just that. There’s something strange behind it. One of the clans was completely wiped out. Liam attacked first. Noah retaliated. They’re calling it a blood war.”
“And Veronica?” Monica asked, with extra weight in her voice.
“Still missing. There are rumors that she was seen in the Saelvar Borders, but nothing confirmed. Strax doesn’t know anything. And if he does…” Samira paused. “You know him. He’ll fly there to see what’s going on. Especially after killing those three. Even though he doesn’t hold grudges, he’s very… let’s say attentive to those guys… not so much the sisters, but those guys…”
Monica pressed her lips together, her blue eyes flashing for a moment. “And you came to warn Xenovia?”
“We didn’t come… just to warn her,” Vampira replied. “We came to see what she thinks and if it’s worth going there before Strax finds out.”
Monica raised an eyebrow, her gaze hardening. “You want to drag her into a fratricidal war when she can barely stand?”
“Oh, no. I’m talking about me going, I just want an opinion,” insisted Samira. “She doesn’t have to get out of bed. I just want information. They still listen to her, fearfully, but they listen.”
There was a moment of silence. The kind of silence that weighs like metal on your shoulders. Monica turned, staring at the stairs, as if she could see through the ceiling.
“She woke up a little while ago, wait a little before talking to her… The core is unstable and she has recovered little of her full Mana. Her mind… still confused, she has lost some memories of what happened. Give her some time to recover.”
While Monica spoke to Rogue and Samira from the top of the stairs, a motionless figure watched in silence—Xenovia, leaning on the railing, her face pale, still marked by pain, but her eyes fixed and intense.
She remained motionless for a few seconds, listening to every word, every hesitation, every fear that Monica tried to convey.
Then, in a low, firm voice that cut through the air like a sharp blade, Xenovia interrupted:
“Ignore those two,” she said, without coming down the steps, staring at Monica with eyes that no longer seemed the same. “Let them die in the desert.”
Monica turned abruptly, surprised by the audacity and coldness of the response. Her blue eyes searched Xenovia’s face, trying to find a sign of weakness, of doubt—but there was nothing but icy determination.
“Xenovia…” Monica began, her voice heavy with concern.
“It’s better that they destroy themselves,” Xenovia replied, firm and without hesitation. “If I go there, I’ll end up killing them with my own hands.” Her voice became even harder, almost devoid of emotion. “I’m not the same as I was before. I no longer intend to save those who choose to lose themselves in this war. If they want war, let them have it — and let them die together in the sands of the desert.”
A heavy silence fell over the room.
Downstairs, Samira and Rogue exchanged hesitant glances before slowly backing away.
Monica took a deep breath, sadness etched on her features, and said regretfully:
“So you’re going to let their blood be the judge?”
“Yes,” Xenovia replied, her eyes shining with an unyielding fire. “They chose to abandon the Duchy, to turn their backs on Strax and on us. They chose this path, and now they must bear the consequences. I no longer have the will or the strength to save them. Let them be lost in the sands of the desert.”
Xenovia took a deep breath, and her gaze softened slightly, though her voice remained firm.
“However… Veronica is something else,” she said slowly, as if weighing each word. “Liam and Noah may die, and so be it, but Veronica… she is someone worthy. At least, she deserves respect.”
Monica frowned, observing the subtle change in the young woman’s expression.
“It would be important to know where she is now, what she’s doing. Unlike her brothers, Veronica may still be a cause for salvation, those two are not.” Xenovia finished, with a hint of caution in her voice.
Samira, who was still standing at the entrance, nodded slightly, understanding the weight of that distinction.
“If we can locate her, we can act with more clarity,” Monica added, her voice firmer now. “But until then… let the desert do its justice.”
Xenovia closed her eyes for a moment, seeking strength in the quietness of the mansion. Then she raised her head and looked at Monica with determination.
“I’ll go after her when I recover. Until then, don’t do anything yet,” she said, looking at Samira and Rogue.
“Ignore them, okay,” Samira said with a shrug, Rogue just looked at Xenovia and sighed, “And I thought I could get a new tan,” she said disappointedly.
The heavy silence that filled the room was abruptly broken by a light tapping against the windowpane. Everyone turned, alert, toward the unexpected sound.
Samira frowned, clearly annoyed. “Who could it be now, at this hour?” she muttered.
She got up quickly and walked to the window, pulling the curtain aside with a swift movement. There was a common carrier pigeon, holding a small strip of paper firmly in its foot.
Carefully, Samira opened the window, allowing the bird to fly inside and land on the frame. She took the message and her eyes scanned the words written in firm, unmistakable handwriting.
Suddenly, her body stiffened like a rope stretched to its limit. With a sudden gesture, she brought the message close to the flames of the fireplace and burned the paper. Anger exploded inside her, like a fire that could not be contained: her whole body seemed to glow, and her hair burst into dancing flames, forming a fierce, living aura around her.
Rogue’s eyes widened in surprise and concern. “Samira, what’s going on? What was that message?”
Turning slowly, Samira let the fire envelop her hair while her eyes shone with an intense mixture of pain and determination. Her voice came out low, charged with a cutting tension:
“My sister wants to talk to me.”
