Destroy My Life In You-Chapter 105: Games of Fate
PRESENT TIME
Ravenna’s unconscious body emerged from beneath the Eclipse Lake. The water was unusually calm despite all the chaos. For a while, Ravenna remained stilled. The four people who had led her to the Eclipse Lake were standing beside the lake gazing at her with a hint of worry.
Suddenly, Ravenna jolted awake and sat up. Surprisingly, she did not sink and rather, the water started carrying her towards the shore, in a slow delicate way. The four people watched silently, while Ravenna seemed to be in a daze. To be precise, she was in a state of shock.
As the small tide dropped her on the ground, Ravenna stood up, water dripping from all over her. Restrained gasps escaped her half-opened mouth, her breathing becoming uneven every passing second. Her lips trembled in silence and it was not from cold.
"Dear," the silver-haired lady called out to Ravenna in a low voice. "Are you fine?"
There was silence on the other end of Ravenna. She gazed at nowhere in particular. Vivid images clouded her mind, as each of them tortured her mercilessly. So, after all, she was Astrid. The same Astrid whom she had so much wanted to know about, due the fact that she was Alaric’s first mate. It was her. The person who hurt him the most.
"Dear," the same woman added, and this she also placed her hand on Ravenna’s shoulder.
Ravenna snapped at the sudden contact. She turned her body shaking, and came face to face with the woman. At the sight of her, she froze. Still not from cold, but she recognised. This was Astrid’s mother. Her mother in her previous life. Short breaths of disbelief left her mouth before she looked up unhurriedly. And true to her thoughts, the man standing behind the woman was Astrid’s father.
"You..." That was all Ravenna managed to say before tears fell from her eyes unknowingly. Deep emotions rushed inside her when she recalled how they died trying to keep her safe.
"Don’t cry, dear," Astrid’s mother added, wiping away Ravenna’s tears, but more kept on coming.
Ravenna broke down completely before she engulfed her in a hug. "I’m sorry. I’m sorry." She apologized, crying hard.
"It’s okay, dear. You have nothing to apologise for." She said while rubbing Ravenna’s hair gently.
"It’s my fault. Everything is my fault. I... hurt everyone. You, father... Liam, my... brothers... and my mate too." Her choked voice resonated into the air, filled with a hundred years of pain, guilt and regret.
"All is over, dear. You still have a chance to make everything right. There people still waiting for you. They don’t and have never blamed you for anything." Astrid’s mother spoke beside her ear.
Ravenna slowly pulled from the hug, and wiped her tears. She was right. The others were still out there waiting for her. She nodded at her, before she turned her attention to the other person standing behind her.
"Father," she called, walking towards him. She embraced him whimpering not so loud. "I’m sorry I failed you."
"Never. Whatever you did was to keep everyone safe. So, don’t blame yourself anymore, alright?" Ravenna nodded before pulling back.
"I’ll listen to father." She added.
"Good." Astrid’s father patted her head softly. "I want you to meet someone."
Ravenna blinked before she noticed the other to people. Her eyes first on the lady and for some reason, she felt she was somehow familiar. She had the same features as her (Astrid’s) father, but most importantly, she looked like an older version of hers.
"She’s my sister her and..." Astrid’s father said and took a short pause then dropped another bomb. "She’s also your mother in this lifetime."
Ravenna stayed still, her eyes plastered on the lady, processing what Astrid’s father had said. If it was true, which probably was because there was no reason for him to lie to her, then that meant the people she had known as parents were not her biological parents. Her mother, her loving elder brother and sister, they were not related to her. This could now explain her father’s, Alpha Derek, biasness. In truth, he was never her father.
Ravenna had many questions she needed answers for, but didn’t know where to start. She overwhelmed by everything. Events of hundreds of years ago together with the present. She looked at the man standing beside her the lady whom she had just learned was her mother in this lifetime, and without enquiring, she could already guess who he was. His eyes proved he was her biological father without any doubt.
"How... I mean, why are they here? And... how did I end up being... Alpha Derek’s daughter? I... don’t understand... If..." She almost couldn’t make sense of what she was saying due to confusion.
Ravenna buried her face into her palms and squatted near to the ground. Her breathes were low and thought as if she was scared she would lose it. Her head was already messed up and anymore shocks and she would go completely nuts. But everything was far from over. There was more waiting for her.
She stared at the calm like in a daze, the weight sinking in too fast for her mind to keep up. Just as she was about to get lost in completely, a gentle touch on her shoulder broke her from that state.
"Don’t think too much, it’s not good for your health in this condition."
Ravenna stared silently at her mother, whom she had just found out is her mother now. She didn’t know what to say nor how to react to her warmth.
"I’ll tell you what happened. The reason why we had to give to leave you under the watch of Silver Pack." She added, then after take a light breath, she continued. "You were only two years old at that time that’s why you can’t remember anything. Four hundred years ago when I discovered that father had killed my brother, I ran away from home too. At that time, I didn’t my brother’s children were still alive and I thought father had killed them too. After fleeing from home, that was when I met your father. He was from a different line of lycans and also a royal member. We got married and I followed him to his kingdom. We were at peace for years until war began due to the Vampire King, as he had lost his mate, who was also a Primal Alpha. That was when I discovered Astrid and her brothers were not killed by father and I felt guilty for not even looking for them, especially when I heard Astrid was... dead. Thus, I decided to go and look for the remaining children so I could take care of them. Your father discovered everything and he decided to accompany me. Unfortunately, we were caught by father and imprisoned and I never knew the reason why.
"Years passed by until one day we managed to escape. I enquired about my brother’s children and when I found out they were living well under the Vampire King, I decided not to look for them in case father caught us again and found them too. So, we just set off for your father’s kingdom but only to discover the kingdom was under the rule of the Vampire King. With nowhere to go, we wandered from kingdoms to kingdoms, to make sure father never found us. It was only one day when we came across an oracle who told we were to be the birth parents of the next Primal Alpha. Then, we discovered why father had kept us captive. He was only interested in our child. For centuries, we avoided bearing a child but despite everything, it happened twenty-one years ago. We were happy but at the same time worried. It had been long since we heard about father and lycans were thought to have gone extinct. We only hoped that was the truth but unfortunately, we were so wrong."
"Father was not dead and instead, he had been laying low and hidden for all that time waiting for the birth of our child. When you were two years old, he came with a group of hybrids, vampires and even lycans. He also had two witches by his side who were probably the ones who had helped track us down. When we discovered he had found us, it was already too late. We ran but we clearly could hear they were not far away behind us. Your father chose to stay behind to stop them so we could escape. It didn’t take long before I found a pack of werewolves on a hunt. I gave you to you, precisely the Alpha. It was only to him I revealed I was a lycan and he agreed take you. I asked him to never tell anyone the truth about you and only say you were his daughter. After, I went back to look for your father and arrived when they were about to kill him. Father tried all he could to torture us to reveal your wherebouts but I never said a word. So, he... killed us."
Silence enveloped the air after Ravenna’s mother finished explaining.
"So, grandfather is still alive?" Ravenna asked, her eyes empty and numb.
"Yes," her mother replied in a low whisper.
