Destroy My Life In You-Chapter 107: Alaric’s Desperation
Alaric dared not make any move, afraid she would disappear the moment he did so. He just stood there, frozen, and the moment she turned to look at him, his breath hitched. He wasn’t losing it nor dreaming, she was awake. Though her face was still pale, that didn’t affect the fact that her heart was beating again, accompanied by the less louder beat of the little one in her belly.
Alaric lips patted a little, but he didn’t know what to say. Should he tell her how madly he missed her? Or how scared he was when she fell into his arms, lifeless? Or maybe ask why she was leaving the moment she woke up? He couldn’t just make up what to do. He was scared she didn’t want him anymore. After all, he had promised never to keep anything from her but instead, he didn’t tell her the truth about herself when he found out. He was selfish and only wanted her to be the happy Ravenna who cared less about any thing. He wanted to protect her from every danger, that’s why he did what he thought would save her the pain. Right now, he didn’t know what she knew and what she didn’t know. Thus, he chose to be quiet. But one thing he was sure about, he wouldn’t let her, ever, leave him again, even if he had to beg. If she went to hell, he would force her to drag him with her.
With that, Alaric took a step forward towards her, then another, and another, until there was only a little space left in between them. His eyes were on her eyes, and for the first time, he couldn’t discern what was held in them. He couldn’t guess what she was thinking.
’Ven,’ his mouth didn’t open, and instead, he mind-linked her.
Ravenna snapped back when he hear that voice in her head. It was Alaric’s. She looked up into his eyes, and she could swear they seemed to be begging her for something. She just didn’t know what. Just now, memories of the past had come rushing back to her, and from it, Alaric had really changed. He used to be warm if not friendly. He wasn’t always this cold as now. From the memories she saw, it was all her fault. She caused him to become the cold-blooded vampire he is now. If only she had thought twice at that time and talked to him. Maybe things would have been different. But she just had to be coward and caused everyone pain, though with the intent to protect him. And adding to his terro, she made him kill her with his own hands. He might have despised himself for that. She owed him and everyone an apology even though it would not right the wrongs she had done.
’Yes,’ she answered through mind-link too, and did not avert her gaze from him. Her heart was in pain remembering the hollow and numb gaze when he was holding her lifeless body centuries ago. Thinking of it, she remembered she had died once again during her transformation, that too in front of him, which probably would have triggered memories had worked so hard to forget. All she did was cause him great pain. She didn’t even know for how long she had been gone and what had happened during that time. The moment she woke, her senses that were now sharper, sensed the presence of werewolves and hybrids around, and that was why she had gone out to look.
’How long has it been?’ Ravenna questioned.
’Thirty days and ten hours,’ Alaric said through his mind, his voice barely a whisper.
Ravenna felt her entire soul grow cold. An entire month? If it were her, she probably would have lost her mind by now. How much agony had he been in? Subconsciously, she stumbled back but Alaric, the man thought she was avoiding him.
In a fit of desperation, Alaric grabbed her hand and pulled her into his arms, whispering to her ear—
"Don’t go." His right hand held the back of her head while the other went round her waist, holding her in place. To his relief, she didn’t resist. "Please, don’t leave me again. I won’t... I’ll never keep anything from you again... I’m sorry, okay? I’ll do whatever you say. If you say it’s one then I’ll never say two. I’ll listen to you only. Just... don’t leave, V." He said whatever he felt without a care how desperate he sounded. If this was what it needed to make her stay, then he would do it a thousand times.
Ravenna stood still in arms as everyone single word he said cut through her heart. She had imagined how Alaric was hurting but she didn’t know it was to this extent. The once strong and egoistic man was begging her. He had thrown away his pride and didn’t even think of his title and pleaded with her because he thought she wanted to leave him. It broke her apart.
"Alaric, I—"
"No. I don’t want to hear it. Even if you want to leave me, I won’t allow it. You..." he choked on his voice feeling extremely weak. Slowly, he slid down and went on his knees, while both his hands hugged her waist. He forehead gently rested on her stomach, and he gazed down to hide away those tears. "You can’t go anywhere. I’ll... die." The last word was a whisper but Ravenna still heard him.
"Ala–"
"I don’t want to hear it."
"Listen to—"
"I won’t. I won’t."
"But—"
She wanted to explain to him but he wouldn’t even let her say a word. Watching him like that was really terrifying and heartbreaking. Thus, Ravenna chose to do it the hard way. She knew even if she said any comforting words, he wouldn’t believe her. With a sigh, she tried pushing him off from her but he wouldn’t budge.
"If you don’t get up right now, I’ll really leave." She spoke firmly, crossing her hands just above her tummy.
Alaric stopped his movements and looked up into her eyes. Instantly, he rose up while wiping away the tear stains, then shifted his attention to her.
"You... won’t leave, right?" He asked in a low, shaky voice.
"Mmh." Ravenna hummed, before she took his hand and led him back to the house, passing the others who were watching the whole scenario with horrified expressions. Who wouldn’t be horrified watching the most feared, whether in his kingdom as king, and by packs, or even by the humans as a boss in his company, crying and begging like a child.
(AN: I’m also horrified. Hahaha!)
