Destroy My Life In You-Chapter 120: ...Alaric
By the third day, Ravenna had massively improved. She could literally control weather without much struggle, and if the technique of controlling the shifters was the same, then it would not be a big hassle for them to get to Liam. The only hindrance would only be if Lycan King Darius had vampires as part of his force. Ravenna could only deal with the shifters and there still was no guarantee it would work. She was just taking a gamble.
Seated in her room with little Riven safe in her arms, Ravenna couldn’t help but worry. Even if they managed to get to Liam, what then? He had been hypnotised. She hadn’t thought of that before. What if he didn’t listen to her? What if he becomes a bigger problem?
But, no. She wouldn’t give up without a fight. If she had to knock him put or tie him up and make him listen to her, she would do it.
Just as she was about to dive deeper into her spiralling thoughts, a knock landed on the door.
"Come in," she called softly.
Nyx stepped in, her shoulders stiff and her expression unsettled.
Ravenna immediately noticed. "What is it?" she asked, her voice low but alert.
Nyx hesitated, then said, "Someone’s nearing the area."
Ravenna’s brow furrowed wondering who it could be.
Nyx added quickly. "Fuck! I can’t even my power to see who it is. We’ve come too far to risk that now. We don’t know if it’s a friend... or a foe."
Ravenna’s eyes sharpened. She carefully handed Riven over to Nyx, who blinked at her in surprise.
"What are you doing?" Nyx asked.
Ravenna didn’t answer immediately. She walked over to the shelf in the corner and opened a drawer. From it, she pulled out a pistol. She checked the magazine and began loading it with silver bullets—ones specifically designed to injure or kill both vampires and werewolves.
"I’m going to find out who it is," she said without looking back.
Nyx’s eyes widened. "Are you insane? Alaric will kill me if I let you go out there on your own."
Ravenna looked at her, calm and firm. "Don’t worry. I won’t die that easily."
"That’s not the point," Nyx argued, stepping forward. "You have a child now. You can’t just run off like that."
"I have a child. That’s why I need to make sure whoever’s approaching doesn’t pose a threat to him."
"And what if you get ambushed? What if it’s Darius himself? Or one of my sisters?!"
"I can handle myself." She was determined to go. At least if it was a foe, she would get to test what she had learnt the past three days.
Nyx clenched her jaw. "Then let me go instead."
"You need to stay with Riven," Ravenna said flatly. "We can’t leave him alone, not even for a second."
Nyx’s eyes flared with frustration. "Then you stay and I’ll take care of it—"
But before she could finish her sentence, Ravenna was already moving. With a sudden leap, she sprang toward the window, kicking it open and diving through.
Nyx rushed to the window. "Ravenna!" she yelled.
But it was too late. Ravenna had already shifted mid-air, her body morphing into her wolf form, her eyes glowing a dangerous blue. She landed on all fours, steady and poised, before bolting into the woods at full speed.
Her senses stretched out, trying to pick up on any scent, sound, or magic in the air. She ran for half an hour, weaving through trees, jumping over rocks and fallen branches, but there was no trace of anyone.
After a while, she shifted back to her human form, breathing slightly heavy, though her glowing blue eyes remained unchanged. She narrowed her gaze and scanned her surroundings but still, nothing.
She let out a long exhale, and just as she took a step to return, she caught a faint sound, like rustling, multiple footsteps... too many of them. The air suddenly shifted, and her nose picked up on the scent.
They were vampires.
A low growl formed in her throat. Her fangs protruded, claws sharpening as her body tensed. She crouched low, instincts taking over.
Then, dozens of vampires appeared, slipping through the trees, surrounding her. Ravenna didn’t waste a second to give them a chance to attck her. In a blur, she pulled out her pistol ready to shed some blood.
But before she could pull the trigger, a sudden gust of wind rushed past her. The pistol flew from her hands and clattered to the ground far from her reach.
Ravenna froze instantly. Not from the sudden attack, but that familiar scent.
"...Alaric," she whispered.
Slowly, she turned around, her breath catching in her chest. And there he was, standing right behind her, eyes glowing a furious red she would never get used to.
She swallowed thickly, heart pounding. She almost firgot she was mad at him and was even about to pounce on him.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, her tone hardening as she remembered the last words he had said.
He remained silent with his eyes stuck on her. Then, he stepped forward and pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly against him.
Ravenna was stunned by the sudden gesture. She didn’t expect that. At the least, she thought he would lash out on her. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
After what felt like forever, he finally let her go, and both their eyes were back to normal, not feeling like they were about to tear each other apart.
"Don’t do that again," he said quietly, his voice rough with emotion.
Ravenna felt her heart softened, but her pride was too loud to ignore. She looked away. "Do what?"
"Leaving me like that," he replied.
"Who fault was it?"
Alaric let out a slow, frustrated sigh. Only he knew how worried he was. He was dying every minute when he imagined every worst-scenario. What if Lyacn King Darius caught them. The man was insane enough to kill them, especially Ravenna.
"It’s all my fault. I didn’t mean whatever I said. was angry. I’m sorry." He apologized, relieved nothing happened to them. He nearly went mad.
Ravenna didn’t want to let it gi that easily, but she knew hea had equally siffered the past few days with worry. So, after a beat, she nodded with a quiet hum.
Alaric sighed then asked. "Where’s Riven?"
"He’s with Nyx." Ravenna realised she shouldn’t have taken Nyx’s name when she saw Alaric’s expression immediately darken.
Then he said, "I’ll kill her."
She knew he wasn’t joking. He had done it before and could do it again. Nyx had aided his wife to escape and he was bound to be mad at her and since he couldn’t do anything to Ravenna, all the misery would befall on Nyx. But Ravenna would not allow that to happen. She was equally at fault.
"Calm down," Ravenna said sharply. "I’m the one who made her do everything."
"She should’ve refused."
"Huh, can’t you just stop being angry for a second," Ravenna sighed.
Alaric was about to respond, but she didn’t give him the chance. She grabbed his hand and tugged him forward. "Come on. Your son’s missed you."
He blinked, caught off guard. His brow rose but there was slight smile tugged on his lips. "Really?"
She gave a small nod, allowing the corner of her lips to twitch upward. "Yes. Really."
As they walked back, the tension slowly melted. They began to bicker, lightly, —about who was more stubborn, who was to blame, who missed who more.
Behind them were the rest—Alaric’s brothers, hers and the rest of his vampire army.
Still standing where they had been left behind, Zeke dramatically clutched his chest. "Did she not see us?"
Seth joined in with an exaggerated sigh. "She doesn’t love us anymore."
"She’s completely forgotten about her favorite brothers," Zeke added with a mock tear.
Finn rolled his eyes. "She doesn’t even care about her saviour anymore. Me! Her hero!"
Meanwhile, Luke and Zander walked silently past them.
"You two are ridiculous," Zander muttered.
"Seriously. Grow up," Luke added, not even sparing them a glance.
