Disaster Apocalypse: Farming, Family, and My Hidden Secret Space-Chapter 507: Teasing
Perhaps because they’re often taken into the space by her, the few big ones seemed to be filled with spiritual energy, able to understand simple words like a child of seven or eight.
Don’t be fooled by how they are gentle and cute at home; as soon as they step outside, they’re the kings of Hua Village, all the village dogs look up to them.
Oddly, despite not really being impressed by the village dogs, the big ones, now a few years old, have no intention of finding mates or leaving any offspring. Even when villagers bring over their little female dogs, they’re not interested.
Hua Jinchong really couldn’t figure out if her few big ones were just this aloof, both males and females alike.
But thinking about the little village mutts gazing at her tall and mighty big ones, Hua Jinchong somewhat understood them.
Dahei was currently being pulled by the ear and ridden by Dabao, who was daringly muttering "giddy-up" with bubbles blowing from his mouth.
Dahei glanced at the little one on him, turned his weary head, pretending not to hear.
The little guy couldn’t even walk steadily; if Dahei got up, he’d sure to fall.
Hua Jinchong seemed to understand Dahei’s mood and stroked his head, "Dabao, come to Auntie..." she said, reaching out her hand to the little guy.
"Aun...tie..." Dabao, instantly recognizing his favorite auntie, shifted his focus immediately, struggling to climb down from Dahei’s back. With unsteady steps, he toddled toward his aunt, flashing a smile with just eight teeth, irresistibly adorable.
Now that the little ones had all turned a year old, they were much less of a hassle than before, and they just start sprouting legs. Though they still couldn’t walk steadily, they could run off if you weren’t paying attention. Luckily, the big ones watched over them constantly, so there was no danger.
As soon as Dabao moved, Erbao and Sanbao couldn’t resist either. Especially Sanbao, who walked even less steadily, stopping after every step to ensure balance before moving again. Though anxious seeing his brothers nestled in their aunt’s arms, he didn’t quicken his pace; his nature is very calm.
Granny Hua and their mother watched, grinning, feeling that falling while walking was normal. A few tumbles here and there helped kids grow faster and remember better.
By the time Dabao and Erbao were happily munching on the snacks given by their aunt, Sanbao finally made his way into the aunt’s arms, grinning so brightly that it melted Hua Jinchong’s heart.
Ever since the addition of the three little treasures to the family, Hua Jinchong finally understood the doting gaze her parents have when they look at her.
"Puh-puh..." called the little one, although less articulate than his brothers, he laughs more than them. Always giggling, he inherited this trait from his father.
"Sanbao, good job walking here all by yourself..."
"Puh... puh..." Hearing the praise, Sanbao giggled even more, chanting "Auntie" non-stop until she handed him a piece of cake just like his brothers, sparking his eyes as he started eating.
The three chubby little darlings sat in a row, munching on their snacks, warming everyone’s hearts.
"So cute!" exclaimed Hua Jinchong, her affection sparking teasing from her two sisters-in-law.
Dayah: "If you like them so much, hurry and find a partner to have your own."
"Yes, yes, with our Jin’er’s qualities, the babies would be incredibly cute... you can almost imagine them..." Yun Niang watched her sister-in-law, looking entranced.
She continued, "Jin’er, have anyone you like? I’ll have your second brother bring him back as a husband for you," she said with a wink at Hua Jinchong, smiling broadly.
"Get your big brother in on it too," Dayah joined in, casting a mischievous glance at her sister-in-law.
"Granny, mom, look at your daughters-in-law, picking on your beloved daughter and granddaughter..." Hua Jinchong glared at the two sisters-in-law, playfully complaining, and it was clear that she was often teased by them.
"Wrong, now our favorites are the three little darlings, and you come after them..." Granny Hua replied with a straight face, successfully drawing out a pouty expression from her sweet granddaughter.
"Granny..." Hua Jinchong stomped her foot, just like Sanbao did before, snuggling into her granny’s arms. "No way, I’m your most beloved."
Poking Granny Hua until she was laughing non-stop, unable to push her away, "Oh, oh, gently now... my old bones can’t take your torment... alright, alright, you’re the most beloved."
Pointing at her beloved granddaughter, Granny Hua seemed helpless, but her joy was evident in her tone.
"Shame... shame..." Dabao gestured with his fingers on his cheeks at his aunt, forgetting to eat his cake.
Dabao and Sanbao always followed their brother, nodding in unison, their faces bashful.
"Hmph... you’re all just jealous... nyah-nyah..." Hua Jinchong stuck her tongue out at the little darlings, her childishness causing another fit of laughter in the courtyard, catching the attention of the men doing carpentry work on the west side, who shook their heads with smiling faces.
Despite the joking, Hua Jinchong was indeed at the age where she should start considering her future. It had been two years since her coming-of-age ceremony, and any further delay would truly make her an old maid.
After dinner, Granny Hua dragged her granddaughter into a room, followed by Qi Shi.
Noticing the mother-in-law duo accompanying her, Hua Jinchong, though slow, understood that her granny and mother had something to discuss.
"What’s up?" Bewildered, she looked at them, wondering what required privacy.
"Jin’er, how old are you now?"
Hua Jinchong was taken aback, recalling the jokes from her sisters-in-law earlier, and understood her granny’s point.
Since the beginning of the year, her sisters-in-law often teased her in such ways, with her granny and mother’s tacit consent, allowing them to hint playfully at her. However, it was the first time they seriously approached her.
Hua Jinchong snuggled into her granny’s embrace, "Granny, your granddaughter’s almost eighteen."
Only upon saying it did she realize that eighteen wasn’t young anymore; time really flew by. No wonder her granny and mother were getting anxious now, Hua Jinchong sighed a little, too.
"Yes, nearly eighteen, our Jin’er has grown so much."
The last sigh was at her coming-of-age, time went by so fast, they said they’d prolong childhood a bit, but it passed in the blink of an eye.
Seeing her granddaughter still oblivious, Granny Hua’s reluctance quickly faded.
Then she said, "Jin’er, what do you think of your sisters-in-law’s playful talk this afternoon?"
"What do you mean?" feigned Hua Jinchong.
"Don’t play dumb, dear, your mother knows you understand." Qi Shi gave her daughter a look. This child, always feigning ignorance when she doesn’t want to listen.
"Mom..." Caught out, Hua Jinchong turned to seek refuge in her mother’s embrace, using her usual tactic.
"No acting coy, dear, your mother is serious," Qi Shi, not falling for her daughter’s usual trick this time, spoke earnestly.
She nearly wavered again when her daughter pouted, but managed to stand firm.
Hua Jinchong, pouting, came out from her mother’s embrace, knowing she couldn’t get away with it today.
"...or maybe there’s no suitable young man in the village, or one you don’t mind," Granny Hua continued.
Today, they were not letting their granddaughter deflect the topic.
