Chapter 2145: Chapter 2146: Aftermath

The passage wasn’t long, and Feng Yuan and his group reached the end after a short walk. A stone chamber appeared before them. Unlike the passage, there were no altars or statues here. In the center was a hollow sphere made up of five metal rings of varying sizes.

The flat metal rings were engraved with special inscriptions. Agunas and Veronia moved closer, surprised to discover that these inscriptions weren’t remnants from the Mythical Era.

At Agunas’ beckoning, Tamur floated forward to examine the inscriptions. Although it wasn’t a creature of the Mythical Era or had lived during that time, as a Divine Beast representing that era, it knew all about it. Unfortunately, it couldn’t recognize where these inscriptions originated.

"Not from the Mythical Era, or perhaps from a civilization beyond my Authority."

"What do you mean?"

Agunas turned his head, puzzled, looking at Tamur. The other slightly swayed and said,

"I don’t know."

Curious, Feng Yuan stepped forward to look at the inscriptions, scratching his chin. Feng Yuan pondered; this thing looked somewhat familiar, like he’d seen it somewhere before, but he wasn’t sure, as he couldn’t make out where it came from. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Underworld?

No, these inscriptions were different from those of the Netherworld. As for whether they were some variation, Feng Yuan couldn’t say for sure, but upon close study, one might find a slight resemblance to Netherworld Inscriptions.

"Variant inscriptions? But they don’t look like it. This thing doesn’t follow the rules; it’s all abandoned inscriptions."

Messing up his hair, Feng Yuan found himself baffled by this thing. It seemed like a variant of Netherworld Inscriptions, but variant inscriptions must adhere to certain rules and at the very least be usable.

But the inscriptions carved on this thing were not like that at all. These inscriptions were entirely unusable or, rather, inherently did not qualify as legitimate inscriptions; they seemed more like something fabricated for aesthetic purposes.

Inscriptions themselves are a means of energy manipulation, initially a special ability possessed by some Spirit Beasts. However, through research, humans gradually mastered the patterns of inscriptions, eventually applying them to human-made objects, granting those objects various special abilities.

During this process, for ease of memory and other reasons, inscriptions evolved from their original forms to later variants. Nevertheless, no matter the changes, a fundamental principle remained: they must be usable.

After all, these things are methods of utilizing natural energy. If they can’t even achieve this, how can they be called inscriptions?

However, the inscriptions on this metal ring were entirely ineffective; aside from being visually appealing, they couldn’t interact with energy at all.

Agunas flicked his tail and said,

"Could this be the result of changes in world rules?"

"Do you think that’s possible? While this thing has undergone changes, it still bears some lineage to Netherworld Inscriptions. Without world-crossing, do you think this is likely?"

Rolling his eyes, Feng Yuan said crossly, inscriptions correspond to world rules. However, typically, no matter how world rules change, their underlying structure doesn’t alter significantly.

Just as Veronia’s World of Mirrors underwent changes in its rules, but its essence remained unchanged. At most, only parts fell into dormancy, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be summoned.

Abandoned inscriptions are entirely different, as they can’t correspond with world rules at all, which could only appear in a changed world.

"Perhaps this thing is designed this way? Maybe we’re just spending time researching a decoration~," Veronia laughed softly, saying. Feng Yuan thought it over and said helplessly,

"We can’t rule out that possibility."

There’s no helping it. Even he’s not sure whether this thing is merely a decoration, as following common patterns, something situated centrally is usually significant or a statue.

A mere decoration shouldn’t be placed there, but considering the peculiarities of the people from Kui Shan Town, Feng Yuan couldn’t be sure if it was something highly important to them.

The entire stone chamber was painstakingly carved out of the rock. However, unlike other relics, it hadn’t undergone much reinforcement. Although surrounded by Soul-Devouring Wondrous Stone from the Netherworld, the reinforced rocks didn’t appear in this space.

From Feng Yuan’s understanding, the Soul-Devouring Wondrous Stone’s inherent strength was limited, and using it as a structural support wasn’t particularly standard. Of course, considering the area’s lack of active geological changes, using it as support wasn’t entirely out of the question either.

Apart from the central hollow sphere, this stone chamber contained nothing else, not even frescoes or carvings. It seemed as though the whole chamber was built for that sphere.

Looking at the metal ring globe at the center of the stone chamber of unknown purpose, Feng Yuan asked,

"What should we do with this thing? Leave it here or take it out?"

"I think leaving it untouched might be the best choice. Remember, it was when they took away the statue that things happened~," Veronia laughed gently, saying. Agunas flicked his tail without saying anything, but it was clear that he agreed.

While this thing had some research value, it mainly lay in the inscriptions on it. As for the metal rings making up the sphere?

The materials used for forging those rings weren’t difficult to analyze, and based on these materials, they deduced that they were made several thousand years ago.

This timing aligned with the timeframe when Kui Shan Town’s myths about the Bright Lord first circulated, suggesting a link between this place and those people.

However, they didn’t know why these people would carve out such a stone chamber here, nor the purpose of the ring-formed sphere in the center.

"What a strange place indeed," Veronia remarked after another thorough inspection revealed no oversight. She glanced back at the stone chamber and followed Feng Yuan and the others out.

There was no choice—the place had been inspected, and aside from the ring-formed sphere, nothing else special existed. As for the altars in the corridor?

Even as Divine Beasts, they could only observe from a distance. As for touching them?

Best not. Although it was initially the Netherworld Divine Beasts that had led to changes by bringing the statues into the Netherworld, this didn’t mean they posed no danger. At least not until it was confirmed these things wouldn’t cause harm. Agunas and the others preferred not to touch them.

Moreover, the recently appeared statue made them somewhat wary.

If judged based on the timing of the only object in the stone chamber, these things would have been crafted several thousand years ago. However, back then, during the Dynasty Era’s mid-stage, Divine and Spirit Beasts had already replaced traditional god beliefs and were worshipped by the world.

Just who were these human-form statues carved to represent?

This question had no answer, not even Feng Yuan dared to claim such a belief could survive from the Mythical Era onward.

They left following the original path, and perhaps because they hadn’t touched the statues, Feng Yuan and his group didn’t encounter any unexpected events. Once the small boat left the mountain’s belly and returned to the outside world, Feng Yuan sat up and made a call.

This matter had to be reported, not because they didn’t trust the three Spirit Beasts serving as boatmen. After all, they were raised and cared for by locals. Compared to Feng Yuan and his group, those three Spirit Beasts were even less willing to see Liantang encounter any mishaps.

But since this thing had been discovered, they couldn’t leave the authorities in the dark. After all, if Feng Yuan’s party discovered it, others might also find similar objects.

Moreover, the mechanisms in that stone chamber could only be opened. At least Feng Yuan found no means to restore it to its original state.

If that place were hidden, it might be fine. Though no one went there now, occasionally someone like Feng Yuan would want to explore it.

If tourists eventually found it, no one could predict what might happen.

The person in charge of boat rentals, after hearing Feng Yuan and the others’ report, also recognized the hidden risks. He immediately contacted relevant authorities and temporarily halted rental services for boats entering similar areas.

As for sealing off the entrance Feng Yuan and his group had discovered, that was beyond their capability. Liantang Town, after all, wasn’t Maomu City, and they couldn’t assign specialized personnel to guard the place.

Fortunately, after Liao Yu and the others reported it, Maomu City dispatched people to investigate and enforce a block on the area, requiring only short-term personnel deployment for supervision.
