Divine Heritage: Only I Can Judge The gods-Chapter 118: Not So Useless After All
Ghost shrugged off his threat, shaking his head slightly before speaking:
"We both know you wouldn’t kill me, not when I might just be the answer to every question you have."
He then took a moment to stare at the guards in the room.
"Pretty hardened men you’ve got here, they don’t seem to scare easily."
"... tell me, how do you know my abilities?"
’So he’s figured it out huh?’
There was one thing common among those who had died in the incident last week, and that was that all of them had witnessed the ghost at some point during their stay.
This led them to suspect that whoever the marionette was, he could only control those that had seen his apparition. But their deduction was not completely sound.
An ability like that sounded far too powerful to be true. After all, that would mean he would just have to show them the ghost to have him underneath his thumb.
Lauretta who was devastated by the deaths due to her unknowing involvement decided to risk playing two sides.
His contract with them was that she would not reveal who they were, but there was no part of it that stated she could not reveal their abilities.
Lauretta wasn’t even supposed to know them, in fact, she didn’t even know how many members they were. But through weeks of careful observation she had been able to partially figure out the ability of the two members.
Ghost could not control people who saw his illusions but rather people who had sunk into the deep grasp of fear.
Anyone who had reached a certain level of fear due to his involvement, could be manipulated by him, especially mundane humans.
When he got no answer, Ghost spoke up.
"Lauretta right? That foolish woman."
He tilted his head slightly and suddenly two glowing red eyes appeared on his mask.
"It is curious though, don’t you think?"
Damian hissed. "What are you talking about?"
Ghost let out a light chuckle.
"If you know my abilities... why then did you leave the helpless blind girl in the presence of my toys?"
Damian’s eyes widened slightly.
"Are you saying that..."
There was a short pause before Ghost responded.
"You might want to hurry... that is if you want to find anything left of her body."
Damian gritted his teeth and was about to hurry out of his room when Ark grabbed onto his hand.
"What are you doing?" Damian asked, looking slightly confused. "Don’t you know that Emma will not be the only casualty?"
His voice was strained and yet he managed to remain cool headed.
Ark remained silent.
"How are you so calm?!" Damian asked, his voice slightly elevated.
Suddenly, the door to the room opened and a girl stepped in. Her orange hair was a bit messy but her green eyes shone with sharp intensity.
The girl that was meant to be dead was largely unscathed, save for a violent red mark that went down from her cheek down to her chin.
For the first time since their interrogation had began. Ghost lost his composure.
"What is the meaning of this?"

Few minutes earlier...
Emma sat in the common room overseeing the clean up. The wall had been busted open by Ark and currently the cleaners were sweeping up the debri.
But that was not why Emma as well as a few other soldiers were here. It would have been foolish of them to leave the common room without protection after realizing just how dangerous Ghost was.
There was a theory they wanted to test. Ark believed that due to the stress from the apocalypse and the constant fear of ghosts, most civilians here would be susceptible to his ability.
And he was right...
Emma felt it before it happened. The vibrations the civilians were giving off suddenly became static, all their heartbeats had synched, following the same rhythm.
When Emma turned to face the soldiers they got her message at once, they all left the room, locking the door behind them.
A smile tugged on Emma’s lips.
"I guess playing helpless worked out..."
Ghost would have not made his move if he thought she was capable.
Emma immediately dashed to the side as a mop came flying towards her face, the wooden stick rammed into another civilian just as Emma circled behind her and drove her elbow into her back.
Before the woman’s body made contact with the floor, Emma had already darted forward. Two women were stumbling towards her like zombies, their gazes focused on her.
They jumped, reaching for her neck when Emma delivered a kick to their side, sending both women crashing into the table.
Emma stared at the two of them, petrified by how much damage she had caused. She put her hand to her mouth and said:
"Ouch! I’m so sorry about that!"
Thump!
A middle aged man grabbed onto her shoulders and shoved her forward causing her finger to accidentally dig into her cheek, drawing blood.
Emma quickly stopped herself from falling and twisted her body, planting a heavy kick in the man’s solar plexus.
The man flew backwards, crashing into the opiate wall.
She then wiped the blood that was now dripping from her face and looked forward. Slowly approaching her were ten more citizens, all of which were in a daze.
One of the women was carrying a kitchen knife, while a man was holding a broken mop like one would wield a spear.
Emma sighed.
"Let’s get this over with..."

Present time...
"What is the meaning of this?"
"How did you manage to survive?"
Suddenly, Ghost paused and began to laugh.
"I see, so it was all a farce! I have to say though, you are quite the actor."
Emma shrugged, looking rather proud of herself. Her fake neediness was the only reason Ark was able to get a better understanding of Ghost’s powers, so although she probably did it more for the fun of it, it was helpful in the end.
When Ghost finally stopped laughing a sadistic smile suddenly cut through his mask.
"You’re not the only one with an ace up your sleeve you know?
Suddenly, the room began to vibrate violently and then the ground burst open, the earth arranging itself to give birth to a gaping hole.
At the same time, an explosion rocked the entire building, sending them flying into the air.
Ark reacted quickly, destroying the chunk of earth that was soaring toward their group and then he cussed as he watched a cloaked figure rise up from within the debris, and grab Ghost, dragging him into the depths.
"I won’t let you escape!"
Ark swung his hand in their direction and a large chunk of earth suddenly rose to bar its path, but it was far too weak, the slash cut through the rock like a sword through butter but by the time it approached them....
It was already far too late.
The slash just managed to dig into Ghost’s shoulder before the hole closed, the two men gone.
Ark slammed his hand against the ground in anger, while Damian dusted his clothes as he rose to his feet.
"I guess that’s another mystery solved."
