Divine Heritage: Only I Can Judge The gods-Chapter 51: Gate Incident
Rain began to fall shortly after the gate opened. The sound of the raindrops beating against the pavement mixed up with the ever present screams of the people all around Ark.
A car sped through the road, hoping to crash through the ants and flee, only to get held back by two of the apocalyptic ants.
The door was ripped out of the hinges and a screaming man was extracted from the vehicle, but the ant could pierce his soft skin with their terrible fangs, someone appeared next to it.
Whoosh!
Ark’s axe found a gap in the exoskeleton of the ant’s leg, the axe dug deep, contacting flesh just before ripping out its leg.
The ant let out a pained screech as it released the man and staggered back.
Once free, the man took off in another direction.
"Wait!" Ark screamed out but the man did not listen, instead, he kept running towards the next building.
Just as he neared the end of the road, his body was split in half, as an ant charged at him, impaling him with its horns.
’Damn it—’
Ark jumped back just as the beast he was facing tore towards him, he had been momentarily distracted by the man, causing its claw to tear through the side of his face, drawing blood.
The beast let out something akin to a cackle as it charged forward, pushing its horn ahead of it.
But Ark was ready, he jumped to his left, just as the beast tore past him and brought his axe right upon its slender neck.
The head parted ways with the body, as it rolled down the street, spilling its foul blood all over the pavement.
[You have Slain an Immoral Infernal Ant]
Ark brushed his wet hair back as he looked around once more. He was currently surrounded by so much death and despair that he almost puked.
The apocalypse beasts were feasting on people as though they were livestock, cashing them down and dragging their bloody bodies across the street.
They were all people who he couldn’t save, he had slayed up to 5 ants by how and yet it was just a drop in an ocean.
There were many more people to save, and just one him.
He dashed forward, cleaving the head of another ant just as it was moments away from ripping a woman in half.
The woman fell to her knees, her legs wobbly and her mind clouded by unfettered fear.
Ark grabbed her by the wrist and easily lifted her, dragging her to the nearest building while cleaving a path for them.
’Five minutes... I just have to survive five minutes and the ERD (emergency response division) will arrive...’
After securing the woman, Ark charged forward once again.
Clang!
His axe made contact with the claws of a particularly large ant but Ark was knocked back instead, almost losing his footing.
It was then he realized that this was no normal ant, its head was visibly larger than normal and gleamed like polished obsidian. Its claws were longer and its legs were a little thicker than those of ants he had been fighting.
It was a soldier...
Ark twisted his body just as the ant charged with its horn and then flipped over a horizontal swipe, landing a few feet away from the beast.
He took in a deep breath as the rain cascaded down his face and across his eye, watching the every move of the beast.
Then they both clashed once more, colliding in a destructive show of strength.
Ark was making use of the vital lessons he learned from facing the marauders...
Don’t do anything stupid.
One fatal mistake was all the ant needed to end his life. The beast was strong, far stronger than anything he had encountered so far.
It was batting away Ark’s strikes like they were nothing and pressuring him to go on the defensive.
But that was not the only problem, it’s head... it was impenetrable. No matter the force Ark used, the steel-like head of the ant would completely shake off any attack he would launch.
He considered using Dragon strike but that would make him useless for the remainder of the battle, so he had to take it down without relying on his curse.
The beast lunged like a torpedo, closing the distance between it and Ark in mere seconds.
Ark slid backwards and with a guttural shout shoved his axe into the creature’s mouth.
The ant grabbed his axe and shook it in the air but Ark had already moved to its side.
Boom!
A heavy blow knocked the ant’s colossal head to the side followed by another massive blow to the head.
The ant tried to face him but Ark stuck to its body, flipping to the other side and delivering a powerful knee to the right side of its face.
His axe was already forming in his hand by this time...
Whoosh!
The entire leg of the ant was removed with one massive swipe, bathing Ark in blood.
This made the ant very angry— because in the next moment, it swerved to the right, catching Ark with the side of its horns with one powerful thrust.
Ark coughed out blood as his body collided with the nearby building, the walls cracking from the force of the impact.
Then the Ant locked eyes on him. It scratched its leg on the ground, mimicking the way bulls acted before charging. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
And then it lunged forward, its nasty horns leading the way.
Ark l pushed himself from the wall as well, tossing his axe high up into the sky as he raced at the beast.
Just as he was about to be impaled, the horns a few centimeters from his flesh, Ark sidestepped the beast, his body spinning over the body of the ant until he was at its back.
At that moment, the axe was descending from the sky and Ark jumped to meet it, grabbing the axe and descending, while pushing the axe back for one decisive strike.
Boom!
The axe tore through its abdomen, the area that houses the ant’s Heart...
The beast tried to turn for another charge but fell weakly, as its organs spewed on the wet floor.
[You have Slain an Immoral Infernal bull Ant]
Ark held onto his pained abdomen with one hand and his axe with the other as he turned back to the battlefield. Then he froze—
He took a step backward as a scowl appeared on his face, behind him was a building housing many of those who had managed to escape.
But in front of him....
...were three more soldier ants, these ones more terrible than the last. Ripping through that door and murdering every single person in that building would be a walk in the park for them.
And yet one man stood in their path.
The middle ant walked slightly ahead of the rest and watched him with those stark white eyes.
It let out an indescribable sound just before they all began to charge.
Taking on one of these beasts had taken its toll on him, Ark knew that there was no way he could take three.
They would completely decimate him before going on to slaughter every single person in the building behind him. And so...
Ark pulled out his last card.
The air trembled softly as his spiritual essence enveloped the area around him. With innate movements, Ark rested his axe on his shoulder and watched as they approached.
He took a deep breath, the rampaging beasts reflecting in his sharp golden Iris—
And then pushed his axe forward, delivering a wide horizontal swipe.
The energy condensed around him, as a golden streak of light tore through the space between him and the ants.
The ants were rather confident in the strength of their exoskeleton, especially the one on their heads.
Instead of trying to dodge, all three ants placed their horns forward, hoping to break through the attack.
But once the golden split made contact, it cut right through their horns, their heads and their entire bodies like a knife through butter. Rending them to pieces.
A golden light suddenly emenated form one of the corpses and floated into Ark’s chest. It was as though whatever it was had taken root in his spirit core, it was a strange feeling that made the tips of his fingers tingle slightly.
[Infernal Claw Obtained]
The axe slipped out of Ark’s fingers and fell to the wet floor.
It was practically over now, he could no longer wield his axe.
That was when he felt a tap on his shoulder.
Suddenly, the rain all around him froze mid air as though time had been stopped. Ark turned around to meet a pair of mischievous red eyes staring back at him.
