Chapter 61: A New Enemy

The next two weeks passed like a blur.

Ark’s fairly peaceful days had been completely dismantled by two beautiful women, Thalia in the mornings and Silver at night, keeping him awake for far more than necessary.

And no, not in that way you perv!

Thalia had taken special interest in him and had been drilling fighting techniques into his head since the day of the spar, knowing that he used an axe even made her far more intrigued, the fact only managing to make his life a tad more difficult.

They were also doing some meditation to boost their core capacity but nothing as brutal as what Silver was putting him through.

Ark had always suspected that she had hidden wickedness in her, but it was as though that part of her had intensified with the new colour of her hair.

He walked tiredly to the fridge and pulled out a bottle of yoghurt, emptying the entire bottle in one go before leaning on the fridge.

"I’m in severe pain..."

His shoulders were throbbing from taking Thalia’s blows and his mind weary from the constant stress.

He slid down to the floor, staring up at the ceiling.

’Just a few seconds...’ He thought as his eyes drifted close, and he embraced the darkness.

In the well equipped gym of the squad house, a girl was currently staring at an obnoxiously large weight with a daring look in her eyes.

She wore a sports bra that inched just slightly below her chest, exposing porcelain white skin that glistened with sweat. Her black hair was tied up in a high ponytail and her icy blue eyes glinted with strange curiosity.

Kiera focused on the weight in front of her and took a deep breath.

Five hundred kilos...

She had been working on her curse for some time now, consistently pushing the boundaries of how much weight she could lift and was slowly coming to a few conclusions.

Although she was yet to find something she couldn’t lift, it seemed the weight of the object pressed against her mind.

The heavier the object, the more force it would exert on her. So although it looked like she was trying to improve her strength, in reality, she was actually conditioning her mind.

She had once tried to lift the house, just as an innocent test. The strange thing was that it felt possible, it was as though she could lift it.

But when she tired, blood spewed out of her nose... the weight of the house was still far too oppressive for her at this point.

She pointed her hands at the weight and the metal creaked just as it rose from the floor, rising high up into the air.

After a few more repetitions she returned the weight to its stand and picked up her towel, wiping off the sweat from her body.

That was when her phone buzzed to life, it was an unknown number.

It was strange since her number was private, only few people had access to it and they would not dare give her number out without her permission.

Her curiosity was piqued and so she answered the phone.

"Hello?"

There was a brief moment of silence at the other end.

"My sweet little sister..."

Kiera’s heart dropped as she realized who was at the other end of the line. His voice was serpentine and smooth, each word filled with countless layers of deception.

It was her brother, Leon Stormwind.

"Leon, g-good evening."

Kiera found herself stuttering over her words, only managing to catch herself at the end of it to make it less obvious.

There was a deafening silence before he spoke.

"And what is so good about the evening?"

"Say... by any chance, you haven’t been avoiding my calls have you?"

Kiera couldn’t let him know, she mentally forced herself to keep quiet but her body reacted first, blurting out the words before she could hold herself back.

"I have." She could not lie to her brother.

A gentle laugh echoes from the other side, a voice so angelic that it could put even the most fervent individuals in a trance.

"You’ve disobeyed me haven’t you? Tsk tsk tsk."

Once again there was that same silence.

"You’ve been a bad, bad girl—"

"..."

That was where the call ended.

Badump—Badump

Kiera fell to her knees, clutching onto her chest. Her heart hammered in her ears as she sucked in a hoarse breath.

It was only after the call ended that she managed to breathe finally properly, her chest felt tight and each breath of air did little to smooth her pounding heart.

She tried to push herself to her feet only to find out that her hands were shaking, her experiences with her brother had triggered a level of innate fear deeply rooted inside her.

His words had been simple and yet Kiera had known him long enough to know what he meant—

Trouble was coming.

Kiera needed to be prepared for when it would arrive, if not... the entire squadron would become nothing but collateral damage in the wake of her brother’s rage.

**

After managing to catch her breath as shake off the final bits of tining in her fingers, Kiera defended down the stairs and into the kitchen.

There, she met a surprising sight.

Sprawled out on the floor, with his back to the fridge was Ark, sleeping as though he was in a five star hotel room.

She stifled a laugh when she saw a white milk mustache on his face and an empty bottle of yoghurt at his side.

That was all it took to shake off the remnants of her unpleasant call.

’Thalia is really putting him through it...’

Kiera already had a well established technique and even Luke had a style he followed. Only Ark was lacking in that area so she had been paying extra attention to him.

Knowing Thalia, she had a tendency to go overboard...

She picked up a tissue from the table and wiped his face before lifting him and placing his arms around her shoulders.

Kiera was strong enough to support him, but the height difference was more than enough to make things difficult and so she wobbled along the path as she escorted him to his room.

Kiera continued in this manner until she got to his room and pushed the door open with her leg, kicking it close on her way and inching closer to the bed.

And then she gently pushed him towards the bed, but something unexpected happened.

While still asleep, Ark clutched onto her neck reflexively, his body probably thinking it was falling.

Her eyes widened as she was pulled into the bed along with him, his arm resting above her stomach and her hair sprawled across the bed.

She stared up at the ceiling, her eyes wide in shock and then...

"Kkkkk..."

She tried to hold it back but it came out all at once, there was no one here to see her at least and so Kiera laughed to her heart’s content at the absurdity of the situation.

It was just like the romance web novels she may or may not have read some time ago...

When her laughter finally settled, she stared at the ceiling, a light smile on her face.

When was the last time she had laughed this much?

Weeks? Months? Years? She had no idea.

Kiera turned slightly, adjusting her posture to watch Ark sleep. She observed the gentle rise and fall of his chest and felt his pulse from his arm that now rested on her back.

For a moment, Kiera felt her heartbeat quicken and she frowned slightly.

"There must be something wrong with me..."

She took a mental note to get some medication, but that would have to wait, just a little bit...
