Divine Heritage: Only I Can Judge The gods-Chapter 62: A Hard Road To Perfection
There was a gentle breeze and along with the breeze came a subtle cold. It was around that time just after the end of a heavy rain.
Ark could still hear the calming sounds of the rain bell as water trickled down the roof and onto it, creating a clandestine sound that spread through the environment.
The air was filled with moisture and each breath felt refreshing. Ark was seated, leg-crossed underneath an ancient cabin, staring at the area in front of him.
They were in the midst of a forest, there were tree stumps all around, left over from trees that had been cut down and the axe, the cause of their demise, was embedded in one of the stumps by the left side of the building.
Ark was once again in the white room, a new day and an entirely new scenery. He had slowly come to a realisation over the many times he had been here—
Some of these places... were real, or at least they existed at some point in time.
They were Silver’s memories, her peaceful dreams and at times her nightmares.
The girl in question was currently relaxing her back on the walls of the house in a deep slumber, and had been doing so ever since they arrived.
Ark had heard her mumble a name a few times now, sometimes with some degree of reverence, while other times with a bit of trepidation.
’It seems even people like you have their worries...’
Ark had long realized that Silver was anything but human, although her origins were still obscure he was slowly beginning to piece up some details about her.
’Focus.’
Ark stared at his hands and closed his eyes, when he opened them, a stream of golden light was slowly curling out of them, moving with tumultuous intensity.
He gritted his teeth as blood began to drop from his fingers and yet he held.
His shoulder began to tremble in the face of the little light but Ark focused on it and then putting immense strain on his mind he willed it to move slightly.
Whoosh!
The golden energy shot out of his hands, tearing into the forest within seconds.
There was a creaking sound followed by a large thump as a couple of trees collapsed to the ground.
Ark sucked in a breadth watching his injured hand. For the past few days, this had been his schedule, he would enter the white room and begin training with Silver until it was nighttime.
That golden energy...
It was Dragon strike, or at least it was his attempt to control it.
Currently, his lack of control and the weakness of his body caused him to self-destruct each time he used the curse.
Silver’s solution for this was to teach him to control the curse, currently, his goal was to bring down a single tree.
Ark stared up at the five stumps.
So far so good.
Initially, they had been twenty!
With shaky hands, Ark once again raised his bloody fingers upward and closed his eyes.
He felt his spiritual energy flowing from his core to the rest of his chest, to his arms and down to the tips of his fingers.
Vwooom!
The golden energy streaked out once more. It felt like fire or rather like liquid Metal searing into his skin.
The pain was unbearable, trying to subdue the destructive nature of his cure was like trying to contain an explosion.
The result was an eruption.
Sweat dripped down his forehead as he focused his entire mind on his curse, willing it to obey him, and yet, as rebellious as its master, the energy exploded out of his hands. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
There was a resounding boom as the golden energy was unwillingly unleashed. A large golden slash emerged from his hand and charged forward, tearing through the ground and cleaving a path right through the forest.
The damage was so severe that Ark could not count how many trees had been cut down for where he sat.
His hands fell to his sides, a bloody mess of shattered bones and torn muscles.
Silver stirred, her silver eyelashes fluttering slightly before she opened her reflective eyes.
"Again?"
Ark nodded.
With a snap of her fingers, Ark’s arms reformed. His bones rearranged themselves in place, the bleeding stopped and he felt his muscles reattach to their tendons.
A rather weird feeling.
Silver rose to her feet and stretched, walking out of the shade of the building to get a better view of the damage.
"Wow, you really did it this time..."
Ark stood up as well.
"I’m getting there, my current record is five trees," he said, pointing to an area ahead of them.
"Not bad, not bad. But it’s about time we called it a day, you’ve been at this for hours."
Ark frowned slightly.
He could still remember the dream he had some weeks back, and whenever he remembered it, he remembered the gate incident.
Many lives had been lost that day—
If he had just been a little bit stronger, then maybe that girl would not have lost her mother and maybe a few more civilians would have been saved.
Ark’s goal was to enjoy life as a curse bearer but there was a part of him that couldn’t bear to see others suffer.
If there was someone he could help, someone he could save... then he would save them.
"One more hou—"
"Nope!" Silver cut him off before he could continue.
"This is not purely imaginative like I said, if you stay too long in here, it will slowly start to take its toll on your body."
"Plus it’s midnight in the real world..."
"Wait really? I missed dinner?!"
Silver chuckled.
"Good night Ark."
She was about to snap her fingers, returning him back to reality when she suddenly froze. Her smile died on her face and her eyebrows squinted in worry.
Her fingers slowly began to tremble and so she used her second hand to keep them in place.
"A-Ark..." She said, her voice raspy at the start only to become slightly more melodious at the end.
"Silver?!" Ark yelled, panic slowly creeping into his voice.
"S-s-s..." her voice broke as she held onto her head with both hands. "S-s-sur—vive."
Suddenly, the shaking stopped and her hands fell to her sides, her eyes were closed as she stood in place, unmoving.
There was a deafening silence.
A single raindrop drifted down the roof, shattering into multiple pieces as it collided with the rain bell.
Silver opened her eyes—-
But something was wrong, her normally reflective eyes had changed... they were now shimmering gold.
Just like Ark’s.
