Chapter 65: Facing the Impossible (2)

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Ark held onto his face, a wide smile on his face as he observed the woman through his fingers. He bit his lip so tightly that blood once again dripped down them.

He had discovered the trick to why she was invincible and yet even with this knowledge, he was useless.

Simply because he was far too weak...

So why was he laughing? Ark had no clue. Was his desperation finally getting to him? Was the multiple deaths finally taking a toll on his mind?

Maybe it was one of these reasons and yet maybe it was not.

Ark could feel it in the pit of his stomach, a primal instinct had awoken within him urging him forward.

Right now his body felt on fire, his brain was firing, thinking of multiple possible ways to defeat the woman in front of him.

His fingers were twitching as though excited by the very notion of the battle, even his axe seemed to lean forward ever so slightly.

His spirit core was bubbling, his spiritual essence threatening to burst out of his core. And yet he stood still and slowly lifted his axe high up into the air.

Vroom!

The air crackled with tension as Ark blitzed toward the woman, his body pulsing with energy. He lifted his left hand high up into the air, bringing it down as though it was a steel blade.

Boom!

A large golden glow erupted from his hand, decimating the space in front of him and charging right at the woman.

Her body flickered and the golden beam flashed past her, barely illuminating her face as it went by.

"Wild attacks won’t work."

Boom!

Ignoring her words, Ark struck forward with a vertical slash, but she was long gone. The axe was instead embedded in the space the woman once was.

He twisted his body immediately, a wide smile on his face as he lunged at her new location.

Whoosh!

Ark’s hand flew out of its socket, as an invincible blow cut right through it with ease.

Only after then did the sound of the attack reach his ears.

His hand holding the axe was gone and yet Ark did not stop his charge.

Instead, he moved even faster.

Just as he approached her, he lifted his already damaged left hand high up and delivered a devastating chop.

His hand was suddenly enveloped in a golden glow, his fingers exploding as a golden slash tore through his fingers and right at the woman.

Boom!

The ground below her exploded and yet the woman was completely unharmed, left with no arms ark drove his head forward instead, a golden glow encompassing his head and surging forward just before it exploded under the strain of his own curse.

Dong!

Ark was back, already soaring in the air right at the woman.

Clang!

Ark smiled as he watched the sight in front of him, a pure slender silver sword had met his own, stopping it right in its tracks.

"I touched you, let me touch you more?"

The woman smiled, looking up past the blade at him.

"Baby steps... I like it."

Whoosh

In a single second, twenty five slashes came at him as the woman’s body moved in a blur of motion, her sword cutting through his body in many locations and yet not a single one was fatal.

Just as she was stopping, she stepped to his side and swung her hand, her fist rocking Ark’s side, digging into his body before sending him spiraling to the side.

"Now that you’re awake, I guess I’ll slow down for your sake."

She lunged at him and stomped at his head just before he got up but Ark managed to roll to the side and jump to his feet.

The woman did not relent, a fist came flying at his face, knocking his head back and then just as he was flying backward, she grabbed onto his shoulder and flipped him over.

Bringing his back to her knee.

Ark gasped as he felt his spine threaten to burst.

With one last massive blow, he tubmed through the dust, coming to a halt a few meters away from her.

He got to his feet, his axe appearing beside him and digging into the floor with a thump.

He spat out blood and wiped his lips.

’She’s pulling her punches.’

If not, he would have died thirty times already...

He could still feel that same hunger that clawed at him from within, a hunger that only intensified when he looked up at the woman.

It was then he realized that it was her doing, or at least related to her.

Her presence was igniting something that normally slumbered deep within him.

A primal instinct.

"What is combat?" Ark said, placing his axe horizontally."

It was the question she had asked him earlier, at that point he had no idea how to answer her but now...

His fingers tingled with excitement as they brushed against the tip of his axe.

"Combat is Dominion."

The woman grinned widely, slicing the open air as she spoke:

"Finally an answer! Now Ark! Show me your dominion!"

Whoosh!

Ark twisted his body as a stream of golden energy tore through his legs, sending his body rotating like a cyclone.

He became a blur of golden sparks and steel, as he charged towards the woman.

"Dragon— STRIKE!"

Boom!

There was a loud screech, like the wail of a banshee as both weapons collided.

Ark could see the energy in front of his very eyes pushing against the woman’s sword. His eyes were glowing brilliantly, a smile on his face as he intensified the force of the blow.

The woman was smiling too, her hair billowing at her sides as she pushed her slender sword against Ark’s.

Crack!

Golden energy emerged from Ark’s blade, like electricity waves they brushed against his cheeks stinging it.

And then the woman’s smile broadened even more as she parted her lips.

"Dragon strike."
