Divine Heritage: Only I Can Judge The gods-Chapter 64: Facing the Impossible
Dong!
Ark was once again resurrected, staring at the woman in front of him with a lost expression on his face.
For a second his mind was empty...
But then everything came to him at once. ’3 times...’
He had died three times already in the space of a few minutes.
The woman cocked her head slightly, her silver hair falling to the side.
"Come, let me see if you are worthy."
Vooom!
Just as she was finishing her sentence, Ark had already lunged at her, his axe materialising within seconds.
He swung with all the force he could muster but his axe just narrowly slid past her head.
Digging his leg into the floor to halt his speed, Ark twisted around to deliver another vertical slash, but once again it just went past her stomach, barely missing it.
’Something is wrong...’
Ark jumped back, just as the area in front of him was completely obliterated, a large slash mark appearing on the floor.
’An invisible attack?’
Ark’s fingers tightened around his axe as he considered his next line of action. The only way out of this was through her, and so he had to beat her whichever way possible.
He braced himself just lunging at the woman who was now looking rather bored. As he neared her, he slashed forward—
But not at her.
Instead, the axe scrubbed against the ground, bringing with it a wave of dust right at the girl’s face and then using her momentary blindness, Ark held the axe with all his strength and pushed it forward, summoning the full might of his curse.
If he failed here then he would no doubt die so Ark paid no attention to the groning of his muscles, he ignored his snapping nerve fibres and twisting muscles.
Instead, just focused on releasing the most devastating strike he had ever done!
And so his spiritual energy burned as a large golden slash emerged from his axe, consuming everything it touched.
Boom!
There was a sound like thunder as a golden glow encompassed the area, bringing light to the shadowy world.
Ark’s fingers trembled, as he tightened his hold on the pole axe, a heavy wind blowing past him with such intensity that his clothes billowed around him.
Whoosh!
The streak of light came straight at the girl with violent intensity, splitting apart the ground as it approached her.
Then something strange happened—
She simply walked forward, straight at the energy beam.
"Full reversal."
Then and there, even Ark’s curse betrayed him.
The golden slash suddenly gained a shade of red as it curled around the girl, doing a 360 and charging right at Ark.
The pain was just for a moment and yet it was burned into the very corners of Ark’s mind.
It was a new type of pain, like fire it once seared his skin burning it to ash, like a sharp blade it cut through his flesh, and like a hammer it crushed his bones.
Engulfing him in pure agony.
Dong!
This time, immediately Ark materialized, he moved speeding right towards the woman.
Whoosh!
He let out a scream as he swung his axe straight at her chest. She didn’t move and yet the axe went past her, leaving her completely unharmed.
But Ark didn’t stop there.
He switched the axe to a one handed hold and closed the distance between them, slashing and punching at the same time.
He tried to grab her clothes but each time, as slippery as a snake she would manage to evade him, all while staring at him with the makings of a smile on her face.
’Can she turn incorporeal?’
Ark was sure he had hit her on multiple occasions but each time his axe would helplessly move past her.
His attacks were useless.
He jumped back just as she reached forward to grab him, and still in the air, he tossed the axe right at the woman.
Vooom!
The axe rotated, a blur of silver and gold as it cut through the space between them, moving tight at the woman’s head.
Clang!
The axe suddenly stopped in the air, as though it met an invisible force and was knocked right back at him.
Ark managed to dismiss the weapon just as it came inches away from his head.
The woman was in front of him in an instant. "Yes, more of that."
Boom!
Ark coughed up saliva as the woman’s leg dug into his gut, sending him back to the ground.
This time though, he was not killed instantly, or rather, she did not kill him instantly.
She stood above him, watching him with a curious expression on her face.
"Your movements..." She shook her head. "You are not desperate enough."
Boom!
Her leg dug into his shoulder, crushing his bones in an instant.
Ark stifled a groan, as the scream pushed against his throat, threatening to let loose.
"Tell me, what is combat?"
Ark’s eyes shot open and a wave of adrenaline shot through his body, moving faster than had ever dreamed of moving. He grabbed her leg with his free hand and pulled her towards him.
At the same time, he had summoned his axe and was already slicing forward.
"Die!" Ark yelled, as blood dripped down his lips. It was rather unbecoming of him to scream such a word, and yet that was what desired most at this point.
He had died far too many times, and now he just wanted to have a little semblance of peace.
As his axe came charging at the woman’s chest, Ark locked his eyes on her, unwilling to let even the sightest movement escape his vision.
That was when he saw it...
The woman flickered once more and his axe passed right through her, catching nothing but empty air, and yet she did not stop.
She descended upon him, bringing her head towards his in one massive head butt.
Ark’s skull exploded on impact, his human body unable to withstand whatever energy was coursing through her veins.
But he had seen it.
’This woman—’
She was not incorperal, rather...
She was just so fast that his eyes could not fathom her movement.
