Chapter 78: Confronting the Wave Boss

The battlefield was a mess of bone blood and gore. All around Thalia, apocalypse beasts were falling with ease.

All it took was a simple slash or blow to take multiple beasts down, immoral rank beasts were like inconsequential pests that only served to get in her way.

Her main target was the mammoth, but the lesser beasts were hoarding around it, trying their best to prevent her charge.

Thalia could easily jump above them but that would expose her to a range of attacks, including putting her in sight of the marmot.

And so she decided to cut her through the horde.

Thalia moved, a blur of motion and crimson light, as her scythe tore through everything around her. Beasts were dying like flies in her wake and it didn’t take more than a second for anything she encountered to die due to the intensity of her strikes.

She swung her scythe forward, cleaving two masquerades in half and then curved the weapon around her body, tearing through a group of skeletons that charged at her.

Thalia was in the thick of the mess and as such there was no shortage of enemies, stopping meant pain, since there was little these little critters could do to hurt her.

Over the years she had spent time enhancing her Spirit core and essence potency and as a result, she was even far more durable than the average curse bearer.

A masquerade lashed out at her with both claws racing towards her face, but Thalia did not mind, she just watched the masquerade with a certain degree of boredom.

She unleashed her spiritual essence, just as the claw came towards her face.

Clang!

The claw slammed against her face, only managing to slide across it, leaving her completely unharmed.

The masquerade stared at her in shock, as if it was even capable of experiencing shock, and was about to move when Thalia took off its legs.

The beast collapsed to the floor now legless, it let out a screech just as Thalia’s scythe slit its head horizontally.

"This is taking too long."

Thalia stared ahead, some distance away she could still see the silhouette of the beast in the distance, its bright orange flames acting like a beacon.

She had to take it out fast to lighten the load on the soldiers because due to its presence, the beasts were far more hostile than before.

They were like ass-kissing workers when the big boss showed up.

Thalia let out a sigh.

’No one could ever hear of this...’

"Using my curse on immoral rank beasts, how disgraceful."

Thalia rammed m her foot into the gut of a large skeleton, shattering its sternum and turning it into a pile of bones, before facing the area ahead of her.

The marmot had compelled some of the beasts to form what was basically a shield of bodies around him.

Blue light began to shimmer on Thalia’s dark red scythe, as water materialized out of thin air, surrounding its blade.

A small blue orb that resembled a bottle or rather, a vial, with dark liquid sloshing within it appeared.

It was her primary artifact.

Whoosh!!

A wave of violent currents tore through her scythe and into the horde of creatures. Moving like a tsunami, the currents broke their formation, destroying the beasts with crushing force.

Thalia ignored the multiple death announcements from the archive, that sounded in her mind after her attack, and instead focused on what was right in the form of her.

The Hell Flame Mammoth.

Bodies now littered the road, creating a clear path to the beast.

"Let’s make this quick..."

The mammoth let out a low huff as it locked its eye on her. The cloud of bats on its head turned around, changing their normal flight patterns and suddenly speeding towards Thalia.

’Sending your minions first huh?’

There were more than a hundred of these dreadful bats racing towards Thalia, for what they lacked strength, they made up with number—

And their sharp teeth...

Thalia let out a tied breath as she lifted her hand, pointing it right at the dark mass.

"It’s a pity that there is no rain."

She was at her most powerful during a proper rainstorm.

Multiple crystal drops of water began to form in the air around her. Teeming with spirit essence, the water droplets each curled into perfectly round balls, taking a shade of red due to the crimson moon above, and then they shot forward.

Like multiple bullets the water drops flew into the sky to meet the approaching birds, the results are nothing short of morbid...

The sky was bathed in a bloody haze, as the bodies of the creatures were destroyed beyond recognition, each one torn apart by a large number of water particles, up until there was none left.

Thalia took a look around, the horde was also reducing as well.

’It looks like they are playing their part well...’

She could finally have a one-on-one with the beast, a heart to heart if you call it such...

The fire on the beast’s hide flared as it let out a blaring sound, before charging right at her, its tusks pointed forward.

The creature was large and yet surprisingly fast, the earth trembled with each colossal step, something that could strike fear into the heart of any man, and yet Thalia was perfectly calm.

It was not that she was hundred percent confident in beating the beast, it was a malevolent beast and a boss in its own right.

But she was all too used to life or death situations...

Thalia leaped out of the beast’s way, just as it came barreling through and dug her scythe into its side.

To her surprise, she was unable to draw any blood, its fur and skin underneath it were far too thick for her blade.

The monster came to a halt and turned around, using its horns to attempt to knock Thalia down, and so she lashed out against it as well, swinging fiercely at its blood red horn.

Clang!

Her scythe bounced against the tusk, only managing to graze it slightly.

A nervous smile found its way to her lips as she stared at the very annoyed giant.

Whoosh!

The creature swung its head forward, its tusks like colossal spears. The tusks were mere moments away from impaling her when she twisted her body, narrowly avoiding the strike.

She was right next to the beast so it lifted its foot up, and brought it down in one quick motion, an attack though would have completely pulverised Thalia, turning her entire body to paste.

The road exploded as the mammoth’s foot met the plain road, shattering asphalt and sending rocks in all directions.

Thalia’s scythe dissipated in a wave of red sparks and she pointed her hands at the beast— a heavy wave of water shot out of her palms and collided with its body, rocking it slightly to the side.

The beast lifted its trunk and drove it right at her skull.

Thalia managed to jump away in time, but the shockwave of the attack still slammed into her, followed by a wave of the broken road that stung her skin.

She lost her balance and was tossed into the air, summoning a wave of water to break her fall.

The mammoth took a step forward and lifted its trunk once more, but this time it did not strike, instead its trunk began to expand, like an air-fueled balloon.

It took a short time for Thalia to realize that it was, and once she did, she immediately surrounded herself with a shield made entirely out of water.

The mammoth was seconds away from unleashing hell when multiple sparks exploded on its body, followed by a loud explosion.

But the measly attacks did nothing to the mammoth, save for making it angry.

The best turned its attention to the source of the attack, its eyes brimming with fury.

Thalia felt her breath hitch.

"No!"

She fired a surge of water right at the beast, but it was already far too late.

The mammoth unleashed a burst of fire from its trunk, the streamlined fire crossing severely meters as though it was nothing and completely consuming the battlement in flames.

As well as every single soldier manning it.
