Doctor and His Glamorous Sister-in-Law-Chapter 667 - 670: Helplessness
The chief hung up without giving Han Jiajia a chance to respond, leaving her stunned and alone in her car.
Several minutes passed before she finally came to her senses.
"Ugh! I waited two hours for nothing!" she fumed. "If I had known this was going to happen, I would’ve just slept in and made a token appearance! Damn it!"
By now, she was grinding her teeth in anger.
Seeing her so upset, Liu Ergou tried to comfort her. "Hey, Jia Jia, it’s alright. You’re not a psychic. How could you have known he wouldn’t show up today? It’s no big deal."
"Why don’t you just take the day off? I can take you out this afternoon. How about some shopping?"
Han Jiajia, who had been looking dejected, instantly perked up at his words.
"Oh? Are you serious?" she asked, looking at Liu Ergou with excitement.
Liu Ergou nodded vigorously. "Of course. What’s there to be serious about? It’s just shopping. Let’s go. But first, let’s get some lunch. You haven’t eaten anything this morning!"
Han Jiajia happily agreed.
With that, Liu Ergou started the car and they headed toward the hotel.
On the way, Han Jiajia was incredibly excited. She hummed a song Liu Ergou had never heard before and even took out her compact to touch up her makeup. It was clear she was in a great mood; otherwise, she would never act like this.
Just as Liu Ergou was about to tease her, Han Jiajia, who had been applying her makeup, suddenly snapped her compact shut. Her gaze sharpened as she stared out the window.
Following her gaze, Liu Ergou saw a man sitting on a roadside bench. The man was dressed in a black hoodie and wore a mask and sunglasses, a cigarette held in his hand as if he were about to light it.
"Hm? Jia Jia, why are you staring at that guy?" Liu Ergou asked curiously. "Do you know him? A friend of yours?"
Han Jiajia pulled her gaze back. "I recognize him," she said, "but he’s no friend of mine. He’s a wanted fugitive our bureau is investigating."
Hearing this, Liu Ergou couldn’t help but interrupt her. "Whoa, hold on, Jia Jia. Never mind him being a wanted fugitive for a second. I just want to know how you recognized him when he’s wearing sunglasses and a mask. Do you have X-ray vision or something?"
Han Jiajia’s attention was still completely fixed on the man. Without turning her head, she replied, "Of course I don’t have X-ray vision! It’s my intuition! My intuition is telling me that man is a wanted fugitive from the bureau! And he has a major connection to the Ancient Martial Artists!"
At the mention of Ancient Martial Artists, Liu Ergou’s interest was piqued as well.
So this guy is connected to the Ancient Martial Artist case!
Thinking this, Liu Ergou immediately said, "If he’s connected to the Ancient Martial Artists, Jia Jia, you need to call your superiors right now! Have them send people to handle this! The two of us can keep an eye on him here so he doesn’t slip away!"
Han Jiajia nodded. "Okay, I’ll make the call. You watch him. Don’t let him out of your sight for a second!"
However, the words had barely left her mouth when the man on the bench stood up and prepared to leave.
Seeing this, Han Jiajia hesitated for only a moment before decisively putting her phone away. She patted Liu Ergou on the arm. "Er Gou, turn the car around and follow him! We can’t let him out of our sight. His movements are very secretive!"
Liu Ergou hesitated. "Jia Jia... is this really a good idea?" he asked, frowning. "It’s not that I’m scared or trying to chicken out. I’m just worried... what if we have the wrong person? Or what if he’s on his way to meet with that Ancient Martial Artist? If we follow, aren’t we just walking right into a trap?"
But to Han Jiajia, Liu Ergou’s words sounded completely different. She thought he was trying to negotiate with her.
So, without the slightest hesitation, she turned and pressed a fierce kiss to his lips. It was the first time she had ever initiated a kiss with a man, and it was incredibly clumsy. In her haste, her teeth clanked against Liu Ergou’s lips, making his eyes water.
They broke apart a moment later.
"Alright, alright, stop trying to make deals with me at a time like this!" Han Jiajia said. "I’ve kissed you now, so hurry up and follow him! Stop dawdling!"
Her actions left Liu Ergou speechless.
Was that what I meant? I wasn’t trying to bargain with her at all; I was just stating the facts. And this is what I get...
He couldn’t help but sigh. Of course, he also felt a pang of disappointment.
The first time a girl had ever actively kissed me, and it was a rather unpleasant experience.
Seeing that Liu Ergou still hadn’t turned the car, Han Jiajia grew impatient. "Hurry up, Er Gou! What are you thinking about? He’s about to disappear! Don’t you realize if we miss this chance, we might never get another one?"
Listening to her urgent tone, Liu Ergou knew it was useless.
She’s too worked up. No matter what I say, she won’t listen. Unless I knock her out with a slap... but I can’t do that.
In the end, Liu Ergou could only turn the car around and slowly trail behind the man.
Noticing Han Jiajia’s unwavering focus, he decided to try one last time. "Jia Jia, are you even listening to me? It’s dangerous for the two of us to follow him like this. If something happens, I can protect myself, but what about you? You should really call for backup first!"
Han Jiajia was growing annoyed. Without looking at him, she snapped, "It’s fine! What could possibly happen? Er Gou, why are you being so naggy for a grown man? Just follow him! I know what I’m doing!"
Hearing that, Liu Ergou said no more. He just clamped his mouth shut and drove slowly, keeping the man in sight.
The two of them followed the man for nearly half an hour.
The trail led them to an area with an abandoned factory.
Seeing the place, Han Jiajia couldn’t help but frown. "An abandoned factory? What’s he doing here? This place has been deserted for years!"
Beside her, Liu Ergou slapped a hand over his eyes in despair.
