Looking at Han Jiajia now, Liu Ergou felt as if she were a complete stranger.

Before he got to know her well, Liu Ergou hadn’t found her particularly unusual. But upon getting to know her better, he discovered that Han Jiajia was incredibly impulsive and hot-headed. She also had a tendency to act without considering the consequences.

Why do I think that? The reason is simple.

For one, there was today’s incident. She could have simply called for backup from her colleagues. But she didn’t. Instead, she insisted that he follow the suspect with her, right then and there. That wasn’t a huge deal, at least not for Liu Ergou.

This, however, threw Liu Ergou into a dilemma. Should I go back and tell Han Jiajia what I saw, or should I just go into the courtyard and check it out myself? Each option has its pros and cons. One is safe, the other is fast, but both have their own drawbacks.

After some deliberation, Liu Ergou made his decision: he would go into the courtyard and take a look himself.

As for why I’m not going back... the reason is simple. Judging by her behavior earlier, if I go back and tell her this courtyard is suspicious, she’ll probably just charge in on her own without calling for backup. If that’s what’s going to happen anyway, why should I even bother going back?

Having made up his mind, Liu Ergou no longer hesitated. He took a deep breath, strode up to the courtyard gate, and knocked three times before stopping.

About half a minute later, the gate opened just enough for a bald head to pop out. The bald man frowned, looking Liu Ergou up and down before asking, "Who are you? Why are you knocking?"
