Doctor and His Glamorous Sister-in-Law-Chapter 784 - 787 Done
Looking at the weeping Nie Qiqi, Liu Ergou snorted coldly and turned to see the old man from the Divine Healer Pavilion.
"Senior, I'll spare you the pleasantries. If your disciple has such poor mental fortitude, I wouldn't recommend he become a doctor," Liu Ergou said flatly. "What if he encounters a car accident victim in the future? Would he be too scared to even move?"
Hearing Liu Ergou's words, the elder of the Divine Healer Pavilion couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed. Liu Ergou was right; his disciple's composure was indeed terrible. However, having it pointed out so bluntly in front of everyone was truly mortifying.
The elder from the Divine Healer Pavilion cleared his throat. "COUGH. Ahem, I understand. Let's just get on with the treatment! I'm guessing this process isn't finished yet, right?"
Liu Ergou nodded and turned to continue treating Zhang Yuan. But just as he was about to proceed, the others in the room called out, stopping him.
"Wait a moment, hold on!"
"Yes, hold on! What were you two talking about just now? Something about tiny black bugs? We're completely in the dark, please explain!"
"That's right, explain! What exactly just happened?"
Hearing the crowd, Liu Ergou turned to face them. "As for an explanation, I can't be bothered to repeat myself. I already told you, those are Gu-insects!" he said impatiently. "If you want to see exactly what happened, you can come over and look for yourselves later. Form a line, and don't touch anything!"
Without giving anyone else a chance to speak, Liu Ergou turned back to continue treating Zhang Yuan.
Meanwhile, Nie Qiqi was still sobbing softly. The elder's disciple couldn't stand it any longer. He stepped forward and confronted Liu Ergou, "Hey, you wait just a minute! I don't care about your Gu-insects or whatever you call them, but you made this lady cry! Shouldn't you apologize to her? Your behavior is not the least bit gentlemanly!"
With that, the elder's disciple moved toward Nie Qiqi, intending to comfort her. However, before his hand could even reach her, she shot to her feet and snapped irritably, "Get away from me!"
"I don't want to be comforted by an idiot! What if your stupidity is contagious? I have no desire to become as dumb as you!" she ranted. "You're spouting nonsense without knowing the first thing about the situation! And that quack master of yours… You're all unbelievable!"
After her outburst, Nie Qiqi scurried over to Zhang Yuan's side, knelt down, and carefully lifted his other foot over the brazier. Then she looked at Liu Ergou and said, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have cried. You were right, my mental fortitude really isn't great, but I've pulled myself together now. Let's continue the treatment and not delay any further!"
The elder's disciple was left standing there, utterly mortified. He had thought that by comforting Nie Qiqi, he might at least gain some favor, even if he couldn't win her heart. But instead, she had lambasted him, called him an idiot, and even called his master a quack. It was truly humiliating.
Just as he opened his mouth to retort, he found that no sound would come out. His master, seeming to realize what had happened, immediately grabbed him and forcibly dragged him back to his seat. The reason he couldn't speak was, of course, that Liu Ergou had secretly sealed the acupuncture point controlling his speech. The man was simply too noisy and unbearable.
Having dealt with the interruption, Liu Ergou placed his hand on Zhang Yuan's waist, and True Qi once again surged into his body.
Soon, black blood began to seep from Zhang Yuan's other ankle. The moment it appeared, the other doctors in the room rushed forward to observe. After a closer look, each one of them gasped in shock. Now they understood Nie Qiqi's earlier reaction. Forget Nie Qiqi; even they couldn't help but draw a sharp breath at the sight. It was utterly astonishing and completely shattered their understanding of medicine. They had always thought Gu-insects were the stuff of legends, never imagining they were real.
Another ten minutes passed. The black blood flowing from Zhang Yuan's ankle stopped, replaced by normal, fresh red blood.
Seeing this, Liu Ergou ceased the treatment. He said to Zhang Yuan, "Alright, Uncle Zhang, the treatment is complete. Your illness is now completely cured."
"You can stand up and move around a little, but be mindful that your body is still weak, and your bones were gnawed on a bit," he added. "It's nothing serious, though. Just eat some nutritional supplements, and you'll be fine."
Hearing this, Zhang Yuan nodded vigorously and cautiously stood up from the sofa. Once on his feet, he stretched his limbs. Apart from some soreness at the four wound sites, the faint, persistent ache deep within his body was completely gone. He would have to wait until nightfall to be absolutely sure the affliction wouldn't return, but deep down, he was 100% certain he was cured.
With this realization, Zhang Yuan reached out and gratefully seized Liu Ergou's hand. "Er Gou, I can't thank you enough! You've finally cured my illness!" he said, his face beaming with excitement.
He then turned and gave Fu Yan a massive hug. "Old Fu, I was completely out of line earlier. I can't believe your son-in-law is actually a Divine Doctor! Ah, if only I could turn back time…"
Seeing Zhang Yuan's emotional state, Fu Yan smiled. "It's alright, Old Zhang. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't have believed it either. Besides, the illness is cured now, and that's more important than anything. Our friendship is strong enough that nothing more needs to be said!"
Zhang Yuan nodded forcefully, his mind already turning to what would be a suitable reward for Liu Ergou. Although Liu Ergou said he didn't want money—or just a few hundred yuan as a token gesture—giving him nothing would surely lead to a lifetime of being scorned by others. Besides, this was Fu Yan's son-in-law. Fu Yan had given the man that expensive watch; he felt obligated, both for the sake of friendship and propriety, to prepare a grand gift for him as well.
After some thought, a rough idea formed in his mind. He then raised his head and announced to everyone, "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you all for your hard work today. Although it was Liu Ergou who cured me, every one of you contributed a great deal! Therefore, I invite you all to stay this evening for a banquet in your honor! Please, don't be shy! I insist that you all stay!"
