Doctor: Picking Up Attributes in the Hospital-Chapter 534 - 416: Is the "Youthful Doctor" Film Crew Coming to Shoot?
"Director Zhao, busy lately?"
As soon as he sat down, Liu Xuedong addressed Zhao Heng.
"Not too bad."
Zhao Heng glanced at Liu Xuedong with a hint of suspicion, speaking casually.
Whether I’m busy or not, as a director of the medical department, shouldn’t you know?
After all, the medical department is the most informed when it comes to the entire hospital.
"Director Liu, is there something you need?"
After pausing, Zhao Heng asked again.
Why can’t these people just say what they want directly?
Always beating around the bush..
"Director Zhao, I remember you have a video account, with quite a number of followers. You should be quite familiar with that, right?"
Liu Xuedong said with a smile.
"Not really, I just make some medical educational videos, can’t say I’m very knowledgeable."
Zhao Heng replied.
"Director Zhao is ahead of all the doctors in our hospital; medical education is exactly what we need now."
Liu Xuedong agreed wholeheartedly.
"Is the hospital doing some promotion?"
Hearing Liu Xuedong talk about medical education and making videos, Zhao Heng picked up on a hint.
"Pretty much, actually. A film crew working on a medical drama wants to use our hospital as a filming location. I was thinking, the anesthesia center is our newly established medical hub, with the latest facilities and a team in the best spirits, so I wanted to discuss this with Director Zhao."
Liu Xuedong explained the situation and took the opportunity to praise Zhao Heng a bit.
Since Zhao Heng is managing the center now, considering it as the filming location for a medical TV series shows that the center is indeed praiseworthy, essentially becoming the external face of Eastern Hospital.
"Medical drama? What’s the story about?"
Zhao Heng was a bit surprised; he hadn’t expected Liu Xuedong to approach him for this reason.
"The show’s called ’Young Doctors,’ it’s about the struggles and efforts of young doctors. Director Zhao, you know the public image of doctors in recent years has been quite precarious, so we, as medical staff, should support such shows."
Liu Xuedong said with some emotion; as the director of the medical department, he had witnessed countless disputes and handled numerous medical incidents.
There are true medical accidents, but most were attempts to gain compensation through manipulation.
So, Liu Xuedong’s desire to improve the image of doctors was genuinely heartfelt.
"Won’t it end up being one of those dramas disguised as medical shows that are all about romance?"
Zhao Heng couldn’t help but ask.
Recently, medical dramas had a brief surge in popularity, with film companies jumping to produce various medical shows as they saw the flow and hype.
But these medical dramas, without exception, were nothing more than a cover for handsome and beautiful idol romance shows, lacking both medical knowledge and the true image of doctors.
As a doctor, Zhao Heng found such medical dramas painful to watch.
"Even medical dramas are urban dramas, so a bit of romance is inevitable. Nevertheless, this director is Luo Ji from the famous ’Sunny Noon.’ Director Zhao, you’ve probably seen quite a few of Luo Ji’s dramas; the quality should be ensured."
Liu Xuedong said.
"What? Director Liu, did you say Luo Ji is the director of this show?"
Zhao Heng said, quite astonished.
No wonder Old Luo hadn’t invited him for BBQ and drinks lately; he was busy preparing a new series.
"Yes, I specifically noted the director’s name, it’s indeed Luo Ji. Director Zhao, you know this famous director?"
Liu Xuedong reconfirmed, slightly puzzled, addressing Zhao Heng.
"Sort of."
Zhao Heng nodded.
"That’s great then. Since Director Zhao knows Director Luo, could you please be the medical advisor for this project from our hospital?"
Liu Xuedong breathed a sigh of relief; he was worried that Zhao Heng might refuse the advisor role.
Initially, the film crew had already formed a cooperation agreement with the hospital, but once the investors knew Zhao Heng was in this hospital, they insisted on having Zhao Heng as the medical advisor, leaving Liu Xuedong to persuade Zhao Heng.
He had been concerned that Zhao Heng, being so young, might be arrogant like many young talents and wouldn’t think much of those mingling in the entertainment industry.
"What exactly does the advisor need to do? If there are too many tasks, I might not be able to spare much time."
Zhao Heng pondered for a moment and replied.
"Director Zhao, you know medical dramas are becoming popular, but many have countless medical knowledge errors which greatly hinder our medical education work. So, the department has communicated with the Broadcasting Authority; future medical dramas must have professional hospital doctors as medical advisors."
Liu Xuedong explained slowly.
This was due to internal pressure; without it, he as Eastern Hospital’s medical department director wouldn’t have personally played the role of persuader.
"That’s certainly necessary."
Zhao Heng nodded in agreement.
Some drama writers are just brainless. Not to mention modern settings, even in ancient dramas, especially in palace intrigues, when doctors or healers appear, it’s often this scenario:
*The Emperor/Empress/Dowager/Favorites/Minister kneels before the imperial physician saying: If you can’t save the Emperor/Empress/Some consort or concubine/Crown Prince/Prince 23456/General X, I’ll kill you all!*
*Note: The imperial physician’s whole family will accompany them in death/hereditary imperial physician stake, etc*..
Sometimes, seeing such plots, Zhao Heng couldn’t help but think if he were the imperial physician, since you’re going to kill my family anyway, why bother saving them, might as well give poison and we can all be doomed together!
Of course, there’s similar brainless plotting in contemporary and quasi-modern dramas.
*Certain male lead/female lead/male supporting role/female supporting role says to the doctor: If you can’t save my wife/girlfriend/Zhang San/my cat, I’ll...*
Anyhow, that’s a plot issue; regarding medical knowledge, it’s even more ridiculous.
For example, the medical drama showing a 9% saline intravenous push, is that meant to marinate someone alive?
In this drama, they even drew 200cc of blood from a patient for testing. Brother, that’s 200cc! Are you sure you aren’t a blood bank mole?
Also the infamous phrase that has confused countless doctors in dramas:
"Family of XX, save the mother or the child?"
When this line is uttered, the damage level is off the charts!
In a dire situation like that, a doctor would be busy saving lives, not sparing even a minute or a second to speak.
In the past, during his obstetrics internship, some family members would tearfully grab the obstetrician saying, "Doctor, if anything goes wrong, save the mother!"
"Director Zhao, then we’ll leave this to you, I trust your professional ability."
Liu Xuedong said with a smile.
"If the crew uses our center as a filming location, are there any perks?"
Suddenly, Zhao Heng thought of an issue and couldn’t help but ask.
Filming fees aside, there should be some perks, right? Can’t let the staff work for free!
"Um.. Director Zhao, honestly, I hadn’t thought of that. How about this, the crew sponsored the hospital with a fee, I’ll try to allocate some for the center."
Liu Xuedong found himself momentarily speechless from Zhao Heng’s question, then thought it over before responding.
"Sounds good."
Zhao Heng nodded; nobody works for free. He’s not too concerned but wouldn’t mind taking some benefits to treat the staff to meals.
"Director Zhao, I find you’re quick to settle into your new role, adapting so swiftly."
Liu Xuedong said with another smile.
As a leader, knowing how to plead poverty and request resources is essential. As the saying goes, a crying child gets milk; if you don’t ask, higher-ups might think you don’t need anything!
